32GB Nexus experience HTC One, and it looks like Verizon and Sprint users are SOL.

We will be ok. I would rather have a carrier device on a network that actually works! I have had both AT&T and T-mobile before Verizon. AT&T is more expensive and had spotty coverage and their "LTE" speeds were a joke compared to Verizon's. T-Mobile is absolute garbage. I couldnt even get reception in my house, had to use wifi calling just to use my phone  No thanks, I'll keep Verizon's excellent coverage and blazing fast LTE speeds, and I will just root if I want stock Android :)

Different price points. Different screen sizes. Plastic glass or metal. Physical or on screen or capacitive buttons. Whatever you want. All stock all updated by google.

i know everyone assumes this, but has there actually been confirmation that updates will be released by google? now that the one is getting a nexus variant, and possibly as other hardware manufacturers join in the nexus experience movement, it makes less sense for google to be in charge of software releases for all these phones, especially when they have to consider their own nexus line. i think the responsibility will be left to the manufacturer, and my faith in their ability to give timely updates isn't great.

further, the wording in what's very little out there promises "prompt" updates. what exactly does "prompt" mean? within a day? a week? a month? it reminds me of google's broken promise of the android update alliance. i'm hopeful i'm just being paranoid, but i'm still somewhat skeptical.

Time will tell but I don't understand the point of calling it a "nexus user experience" if not.

If I'm not mistaken google themselves said at Google i/o that they'd be the ones updating the s4 Google edition. I don't see why it would be any different with the HTC one Google edition. It just wouldn't make any sense to have it any other way. I don't think your concerns are warranted. All indication points to updates by google. And that'll be faster than anything else. Again, "nexus user experience."

On normal days I'm getting nearly 3 days battery life on my one...

Ok these are just making calls, listen to music, calendar, blinkfeed, notes kind of days but still great battery.

Screen on time?

Why does everyone neglect to mention screen on time? I feel like it's the biggest factor when you want to talk about battery life because it's what uses up most of the charge.

Sundar Pichai confirmed that these "Nexus experience" devices won't derail the Nexus program so there's little to worry about on that front. As far as timely updates go, I believe that's why we're only going to see gsm variants introduced. It makes it a lot easier for Google to push out mass wide updates with less finish from the OEM's. Only thing that could hold it up would be the ultra pixel camera so maybe a week or two tops. That's just my opinion though.

It wouldn't be a huge amount tbh.

I'd say probably only maybe 30-40 mins in 24 hours. Screens in enough time to play/select music, check emails, update ny calendar and notes, send a couple of texts, post reply via taptalk HD, quick blinkfeed check of news and Twitter.

Google now is on, power save is off. GPS is on, bluetooth is on...

1 email set to push, 2 others set to15 minute check.

But still excellent all told. My iPhone 5 would get 36 hours on lighter use but this is getting good 24 hours more than that.

Did you use your S4 long enough to judge how good it's battery life was?

For me the S4 was good, but not as good as the one. I did post my battery impressions.

Based on my usage / cellular activity / wifi etc.....

On a more heavy day I usually go o bed with the one at say 50% remaining.

The iPhone 5 would have around 40% remaining.

The S4 would hover around 35% remaining.

So whilst it definitely would last me a full day, it wasn't quite as good as the One or iPhone 5. (For me)

I had all the air gesture, smart stay, s voice, google now things turned off on the S4.

I get a solid day with somewhat heavy use since i've been playing with it nonstop. With brightness between 50-60% and enjoying that boom stereo.

Yeah your screen on time is a lot more than mine :) but I think if any smartphone can last a full day on heavy usage that's good news.

Do you not leave your brightness on Auto? I've never taken it off auto on my one. :)

Boom stereo is great, as it the sound in general on the one (headphones / Bluetooth) and even the Ringtones on the one are so much fuller and clear sounding because of those boom stereo speakers.

Question. What's the icon next to battery percentage?

----------

is there a way to see screen on time? do i need to download an app for that?

Yeah, can't see the exact screen on time with the stock power setting. You need to download an app.

It was on Auto but i found it a bit finicky (too dim or too bright) indoors so i just set it manually and called it a day.

HTC also provided another interesting tidbit: it's currently "examining the best way to support early adopters of the One" that may prefer the stock Android experience over Sense, perhaps by way of an AOSP ROM. The company isn't providing specifics on that front just yet. Still, if you're a One owner feeling burned by today's announcement, there may be hope.

Very interesting........

Oh I missed that. Very interesting indeed.

Furthermore looks like beats audio will work and the ultrapixel camera

Of course, the big question with running stock on the One is how HTC's unique hardware features will work without its software, and it sounds like there's good news: Barra told me Beats Audio will still work — the hardware optimization is active all the time, but it won't put an icon in the menu bar. HTC's UltraPixel camera module is still present, but it's being made to work with the stock Android camera app — Barra said it'll just "do what it does," adding that more details would be forthcoming as Google and HTC work on the software.

Though HTC Zoe's are still out of the question.

Here are my battery stats so far for a not-so-busy day. Apart from turning GPS off when indoors (I was indoors the vast majority of the time) everything else is essentially bog standard. I have no battery saver on.

You will see that I have used up 1/3 of my battery over almost 10 hours and this tracks linearly in that my battery will last me until tomorrow late morning.

I however, charge every night when there normally is about 40-50% left.

i think you're mistaken, but feel free to prove me otherwise.

Could have definitely remembered wrong. If so refer to the rest of my post.

Edit: everything I'm reading says updates from Google. What prompt means I don't know but it won't be interfered by carriers. Again, nexus user experience.

What's your screen on time?

I took mine off the charger around 10am and I'm under 20% right now.
