It's really time for HTC now, Xperia Z got 4.2.2 yesterday, the S4 is running it for 2 months now.
But software updates has always been a culprit in HTC's book.

Well, I think by end of the day, it'll be fair to get upset with HTC for not having pushed out 4.2.2. to the HTC One. Not even to the Developer's Edition.

I would have understood if they were pushing it with the Google Edition HTC One today, but not looking like it.

Clock's ticking. Epic fail, time?

While I do not see the urgent need for 4.2.2, I do agree with you that this appears to be an example of HTC making promises, not fulfilling them, *and* not communicating in a clear manner the reason for the delay. This lack of adequate communication is, to me, the greatest lapse.

Has HTC always been slow with updates? I seem to remember when the EVO was the big phone on the block HTC was viewed as one of the better manufacturers when it came to updates.

Yes and no, for example the One X got JB update in December and yet AT&T version didn't push out their One X update till March... So its a combination of HTC exacerbated at times by Carriers.

As others point out its more a lack of adequate communication that grinds the gears more than anything else and where they are failing....

i think you're blowing it a bit out of proportion. i miss my dash clock, too, but i wouldn't say my htc one experience is greatly diminished by the lack of 4.2.2. the one, even with 4.1, remains a solid device, and i doubt the vast majority of owners know or even care about being on the latest os.

I said a similar thing earlier, how immediate updates (generally) from Android aren't that vital anymore because Android's come so far.

At this point, it's actually less about 4.2.2. and more about HTC themselves.

Rollout for Chinese customers happening now....

Furthermore according to the sources...

it appears new change log indicates that this final OTA version includes a new lock screen style : widgets ... Maybe adding option for the widgets to the lock screen was the delay as it wasn't on the earlier version ?

Either way it's coming all :) and we will see when 4.2.2 gets here - hopefully very soon.

There is a Google Edition rom over at XDA for the One....

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341395

I'm running this on my One and it's great. Obviously, battery life hasn't had time to settle in, but it seems to run very smooth and very fast. The lockscreen widgets are awesome (I've missed those since I sold my GNex last fall) and the camera seems to work just as well as the Sense 5 camera (except in low light...it's not quite as good).

Whether I'll ultimately stay with it, I don't know. I really like BlinkFeed and you don't have that on the GE ROM. And while I don't use the multitude of camera features on the Sense 5 camera interface, it's nice to have them.

I'd say I'll jump back to ARHD once it's updated with the 4.2.2 source code that includes the standard widget-ready lockscreen.

Just bought the HTC car dock today and have been impressed.

It switches to car mode instantly and is an absolute breeze to control music/nav and everything. Nice big buttons and voice control make it extremely easy to understand and use while driving.

Not really waiting on any of the new functionality in 4.2.2 but do want to get rid of the menu bar present on the One in certain apps. Does GE 4.2.2 on the One eliminate this problem?

Pretty sure the menu bar is still present. Why Google made HTC do this I have no idea, especially since they made Samsung change the home button behaviour on the GE S4.

Gave up on waiting for HTC. Gonna root it tonight and put the GE 4.2.2 rom. Excited!

Been there and went back to ARHD this morning. I missed the Sense 5 camera interface and...see below.

Nope. The 3 dot menu is still present and another reason why I flashed back to ARHD earlier today. The GE ROM is great, don't get me wrong. But ARHD fixes everything that needed to be fixed in 4.1.2. And now that the 4.2.2 base is out, ARHD will probably be updated to it anyway.

Thanks.

I've used 4.2.X previously and really don't miss/need the few new features. And while I've generally preferred stock Android in the past, there are a few elements of Sense 5 that I actually would miss (camera app and optimization for the Ultrapixel camera, Blinkfeed). I'm much more interested in HTC's updates to remove that damn menu bar and hopefully to reimplement the longpress of the back button for menu.

The long press on the back button appears to have been kicked into the long grass (a Google requirement apparently). Menu will now be mapped to the Home button (long press), along with multitasking (double-tap) and Google Now (swipe up).

Why Google didn't include this on the GE One I've no idea.

That'll be fine as well--just need a menu option. Much as reaching to the top of the screen for a Back button on iOS is a pain in the a$$, having to reach to the top for the menu/settings in apps is just as annoying, especially on these larger devices.

All this back and forth with the menu button just makes me loath HTC even more for their utterly and still-very-stupid remapping of the home button configuration. I'm used to it now, of course, because I have no other choice but whenever I stop to think about it, I just remember why HTC is where they are now. Dumb decisions.
