Good point. Be nice if the people that wanted those gimmicks used those apps. Not the app I conduct a business through.
Well, the point is that these things are optional, you can still use the app that you use essentially the same way that you have been using it.

While I personally probably won't use most of these new features, they don't bother me either. It's something some folks want, apparently. I know my wife likes this silly stuff so I imagine I'll have to deal with some of it. I really like the look of iOS 10 so far though, so I'm pretty happy.

Half true, I can use the app like I want but I can't control how other people are using it with me.

Usually I have a strong opinion reflecting such, 'don't like it don't use it'.

However this is something that is inescapable and required. What I did up to this point was not using hokey messaging apps, like fb messanger or whatever. I just wouldn't download them, still haven't.

However message.app is baked in and I can't prevent people from sending me goofy slamming texts with confetti backgrounds or whatever. Nor could I expect my clients to download a more minimalistic messaging app.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion. I understand and appreciate other people will have their own opinions.

Are any of the new iMessage capabilities compatible with iOS 9 (or previous for that matter) iMessage users? Or does it has to be iOS 10 to iOS 10?

So I saw in screenshots in another thread that, on the Mac, the section of the System Preferences app that tells you which apps are using iCloud storage now lists Messages as being one of those apps, and that wasn't there before. Apparently checking and unchecking this setting doesn't do anything yet, but I'm hoping this means that real cloud syncing is finally coming to Messages. I was definitely annoyed that they added all the emoji stuff at the expense of this kind of (pretty basic, IMO) feature, but maybe they didn't! Time will tell... here is a link to that thread.

If anyone who has access to iOS 10 beta sees any similar or corresponding setting, I'd love to know!

No corresponding setting in iOS 10 so far, that I can see. I checked under Manage Storage and iCloud Drive.

Well, again, this isn't much different than someone you know calling you constantly or coming over constantly or even just constantly sending you funny/spammy emails or somethings like that. We've lived within the bounds of all those things for a long time now, this doesn't really seem to be that much more different than that.

And plenty of adults too as they have been with all kinds of messengers already.

Seems like a lot of the more typical users enjoy that type of thing given how popular it is in various other messenger applications, so it seems to sort of make sense to provide things that more people seem to be interested in, and as long as they are all optional, then what's the issue really?
Because it seems lie Apple is dumping down and turning its "cutting edge" technologies into children's toys more suitable for Toys'R'Us.

Or basically giving what more of their typical consumers would find useful/interesting/desirable. Kind of a crazy idea for a company that produces consumer goods and services to try to appeal to their interests.

I'm not particularly impressed with iOS 10 at all... Seems like the least impressive version... Has some cool stuff but none of the key features that anyone wants... No customizable control center, no dark mode, no hiding apps, no peer-to-peer Apple Pay... Pretty much any cool rumor that existed is not true
Yeah no 'hiding apps'
But you can DELETE them. Now wouldn't you say that's better? Peer to peer payments via other services is now possible using iMessage extensions.

Would've loved the rumoured payments via iMessage and Android app... Oh well, Gurman warned it was rumored, not a given. Maybe iOS 10.1 or next year.

You are getting payments via iMessage apps, they demoed it on-stage briefly. Just not Apple Pay.

No, you shouldn't use iMessage because you probably shouldn't be using any Apple devices at all seeing as how you hate most everything that Apple does.

But hey, if you enjoy bashing your head into a brick wall and complaining about how much it hurts, who are we to stop you?

Lol. yeah looks like its a REAL popular feature...!

But thanks for the clarification on what i should and shouldn't use. While ever I'm paying for the products i will express my opinion on the hardware, software or the ECOsystem of apple in any which way i choose as long as it remains within the rules of the forum regardless of your comments.

Looks cool. Shame that I don't know anybody to use it with. Everybody uses Facebook Messenger because, you know, it's cross-platform and it's kind of been around to steal territory for a while now.

How do you actually use all the new stuff in iMessage? Mainly the animated backgrounds and chat bubbles, still haven't figured out how to activate them.
