Good Lord man, who cares about these posts. If there is not going to be a new mini then it's time to move on. Even in its infancy Windows 10 looks totally doable. Sure, I really like Mac OS but only Apple can decide if it wants my business. If not then so be it.

lighten up and have fun with it bro. this is a fun thread now as the waiting has become a joke.

True, but if the next iMac is retina and the next mini can't do retina (with TB5k or at least TB4k), it would be one hell of a compromise.

I'm hoping that because the next iMac is likely a retina, they will also be selling a standalone retina display and thus, I would hope, the next mac mini should support it.

One point against this though, is that apple displays tend to be expensive, so you'd be paying just as much or more for your apple display than for your mac mini. Apple might think that only the buyers of nMP would buy their displays and therefore not add the capability of driving their displays to the mac mini.

This thread is almost certainly a joke.

jeez... criticizing before you even see the product. One thing you must not be critical of is haterade, because that's what haters crave. You are one thirsty fellow.
I've reckon I've passed this inscription 10,000 times over the last twenty five years:

The opposite side of the monument has another, lesser known quote from Cavell:

...APART FROM WHOEVER THOUGHT
GLAZING A FLATSCREEN DISPLAY
WAS A GOOD IDEA. OBVIOUSLY.

Don't be surprised to see Broadwell M in a new Mini if it shows. Just makes sense for new Apple monitors.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see the 12" MacBook with Core M shown to go on sale before Christmas.

I will be very surprised and disappointed. I much rater prefer a quad core chip for my work and the programs I use and as far as I know, broadwell M only comes in dual core.

I think Broadwell U only comes in 2 core also. Only K series will offer 4 core but I may be wrong. I seen a sku chart at one time but I don't remember where. I think it was one of the gaming sites.

I already have a Mac mini as a media center on the living room. Movies, music, web browser...; I really like it!
The only missing part for me, is having some fun, with some games on Windows, using a XBox / PS3 controler. I don't want or need a game console.

If the mini is really updated; is it possible to "have" a dedicated graphic chip this time; 980m, 970m, or something like that?

Alien Isolation and Project Cars on the tv and me on the couch, with the PS4 controler... :D

Any alternative machine for that, on the PC side? What would you recommend?

Regards to all

Apple has been good about rolling out desirable OS X updates. The same cannot be said of Windows..

The OS and Apps make a computer. The hardware just runs it. The current Mac Mini runs the currently available and anticipated software.

That's true. If Apple poops out and just decides to sell laptops and iMacs my mini will last for quite a few more years. Should I need something with serious horsepower there are plenty of alternatives running Windows.

That's one of my biggest gripes with Windows is that their platform is so fragmented that people don't upgrade or don't want to upgrade to the most current OS. Here at work, we have some computers running XP, some running windows 7, none running windows 8, all because they make updating the OS unbearably annoying. At least in the past WHEN you had to pay for new Mac OS, they made it relatively cheap. Now that it's free, even better.

My second biggest complaint is all the stupid bloatware that inevitably ends up on Windows computers. This is especially annoying when computers get handed down from people here at work.

It is interesting because people complain about Apple's closed ecosystem. But this is one of it's strengths as well. Apple, at least so far, competently controls their closed ecosystem to work pretty well with all it's products, even as it's product lineup has grown more complex. The integration of it's software and hardware is key and the elegant design, imo, is a bonus.

Open ecosystems like android and windows have a benefit in that you have multiple players adding functionality, but the problem is that many products seem like they were designed by committee and have many annoying add-ons from corporate partnerships.

The closest thing to a compromise is microsoft/nokia/surface and google/nexus where the sofware and hardware are made by the same company and thus, serve as prototypes for the rest of the industry. I think some of these products, while well designed, still aren't designed and integrated as well as apple products because of their lack of focus on this business model.

In any case... you can chew this over while we wait until the 16th.

It seems Apple doesn't want me to buy my first Apple computer!

My 6-year-old-$600 computer just died. I like Windows because I know how to use it. However, I have been very curious about OSX. I don't want an iMac nor a Laptop. I like the Mac Pro but it is too much. My only option would be a Mac Mini. I hope it comes on October 16th. I won't buy a computer with old technology. I would like it to have Wifi ac, a ssd by default, and removable RAM. I don't think I am asking for too much.
I hope Apple makes me buy my first Mac:)

I'm in the same exact situation.

There won't be Broadwell in this update. Apple won't use core m in a mini!!! It's just a waste!
The more I read about Broadwell the less excited I get. After all it is just a die shrink of Haswell. So not much better performance... Think sandy bridge to ivy bridge. Skylake sounds pretty interesting. We might see performance increases like we did Westmere to Sandy bridge...

And I think the real joke of this tread is Apple itself... One of the largest biggest companies in the world can't keep up with hardware updates.... I can't imagine the cost of R&D for a mini update is too much for them to handle....

Perhaps it is about time you had your Mini open to clean out the accumulated crud.
Should be relatively crudless – it's not yet six months since I SSDed it.

My 2012 idles at 45deg and 1800 rpm. When doing a Blue Ray rip with handbrake for 4-5 hours it will run at 97%CPU, 89deg, and fluctuate between 2000-2200rpm. My machine has never been above 2300rpm from what I have seen.
Here we go!

That was down-sampling a playlist of ~450 MP3s to 192kbps during an iPhone sync.
