maybe technically it's a redesign but I feel like Apple ran out of good names and decided to swipe on from the 5 year old 13" MacBooks.

I came to post this too. IMO this is what the next 15" pro will be like.

A skylake i7 version of the MacBook with 15" screen.

The skylake i7 IGP is faster than the Nvidia 750m, with another 12 execution units (next year's refresh) it would be close to the RADEON in the 2015 MBP. Plus there is the IRIS version which I don't think is being officially announced until 2016.

If the new Iris level IGP offers the same jump up from regular HD UGP that the last two generations did, that should bode really well.

You're not getting a tapered chassis if you want similar battery life to the current MBP.

I personally think we've reached the limit on thinness. The fact that Apple had to move to Core M for the new Macbook should make this obvious. Even the XPS 15 turn out to be only slightly thinner than a rMBP. I personally don't think there's going to be a redesign at all, and if there is it's going to be replacing the thunderbolt ports with USB-C and maybe making it slightly thinner by removing battery.

Oh, and a new 15" rMBP being the size of the LG gram while keeping the same performance and battery life is laughable. The LG Gram uses dual core CPUs, has only a FHD IPS display and barely gets 7 hours of battery life. The 15" rMBP was getting that battery life 3 and a half years ago.

there is an new 15" LG out there at 2.06 pounds, so it can, removing the 3.5 jack and usb and hdmi and put instead the usb-c it can be even thinner and lighter

Does anyone else not really care about a major redesign and just want the new MacBook color options? I'd love to have a rMBP in Space Gray! As long as there's new colors and it's even faster, I'm buying. The butterfly keyboard would be nice though..

I'm still running on an Early 11' 15 inch MBP that still works great, so any upgrade would be amazing!

Apple would lose such a big chunk of the 'pro market' if they only had usb-c ports. People in photography, design, music, film, programming would be f'ed with the removal of all these ports. If they only had usb-c ports I would need 3 adapters to be able to connect everything so I can work. I dont think that appeals to alot of people: Get a new 'better', 'faster', thinner machine.

Oh, you like connectivity, we've got the thing just for you! Since we made the MBP thinner, there's more room in your backpack for..... ADAPTERS!!! Yay! Buy our overpriced adapters and carry those annoying things in your backpack all day, taking up the precious room in your backpack

The headphone jack will definitely not be removed. HDMI, probably, although it'd help so many people. The SD card slot, i dont know (cause most people i know use adapters). But having every port as usb-c is just overkill. Maybe in the future, but definitely not now.

And even if they did make the machine thinner by only having usb-c ports, they would be sacrificing power and/or battery life just to make it thinner. Or i guess what apple would say, more 'portable'. As if the current machine was so heavy that if they removed about 50 grams everybody's body would be saved from that horrifying weight we have to bear

Edit: Sorry for the heated post

Well... see the rMB.

I do expect the Pro to keep more slots than ONE. There's been talk already about removing the 3.5 jack from phones and I am pretty sure if they do that, they will remove it from Macbooks as well. (But they will have a really cool $49 adapter!) I honestly hope it won't end up with one USB-C in rMB and two in Macbook Pro :p

or wait with your machine and in 2 years all your accessories that are now using usb will be using usb-c so..no adapters needed
2x usb-c on the macbook pro its more than enough, maybe not for all, but in 2 years there will be a lot of usb-c accessories
Being a PRO, we need a pro slot, and thats usb-c > usb 3

I would think Apple would keep as much as they can on the MacBook Pros since they are their top of the line laptops. It's understandable that there's very little on the Airs and new MacBook because those aren't as heavily used for a vast variety of things as the Pros are. It's understandable that they removed the disc drive and Ethernet port because people just don't use those that much anymore, especially not on laptops, but standard USB ports (2.0/3.0) are still very prominent in today's world (charging/syncing your devices, mice, external storage, etc.) so it just wouldn't make sense for Apple to remove all those ports just to make the Pros even thinner and force everyone to buy an extra usb-c dongle to use everything... I guess I just can't image that, just like how I can't imagine Apple would remove the headphone jack from the iPhones. It's just something that's so widely used in the world right now, it just wouldn't make sense.

what happened in the past, when they removed FireWire or the Floopy disks? I don't know about it though.

but, think forward. USB 2/3 ports were huge, not ambidextrous, and slower than the Type-C. If they have to cut the thickness down a little, USB 2.0/3.0 probably will not be good, unless they want to make rMBPs more flatter on the bottom to becomeing a thinner machine.

another thing is Type-C may becoming popular within less than 2 years, the flash drives or any plugs will eventually grows faster than we think, so 2.0/3.0 might have a very short life span to consider.

And it's just me but...I wouldn't mind missing some ports, I have Cloud storage, which Flash drives were physical, it means i can damage it or I have to take it with me if I want to do something, and certainly I found myself becoming less relying on ports. But I do need the quad-cores in case I'm doing something big.

maybe even the materials they were using will makes it lighter.

What is it? magnesium?

and btw speaking about magnesium alloy, Samsung were saying their magnesium alloy will be "lighter and stronger than the 7k series aluminum", which it can be possible, for sacrificing their life span and corrosion resistances, which may not be severe issues for majorities.

but they also said the finishes were "just as good as the aluminium", which I think was non sense.

that being said, if anyone knows about the materials and tooling, please explain me anything. If magnesium were that great, why would Apple still stays in aluminum? Or is Samsung overly talks about their materials?

Yeah I guess if I had to, I would be fine with less ports. Currently, I use my two ports on my 2011 MBP for charging my iPhone and running my wireless mouse. If they switch to Type-C ports only, I could switch to a Bluetooth mouse and hopefully apple will come out with a Type-C to Lightning cable or something. If not, I guess I can get an adaptor, but I feel like needing adapters on Apple's top of the line laptops is kind of a dumb move on Apple's part... Especially if we're paying upwards of $3000 on a top of the line configuration.

1-2 adapters for somebody who can easily afford an 2000-3000$ laptop is 0, at least until there will be a lot of usb-c mice or other things. Let's not forget that if Apple will remove usb 3 to usb-c in all macs, the accessories companies will come along with Apple.

Dude, that was Microsoft while introducing their new Surface Book. ;)

The Surface Books are certainly "inspired" from the current rMBPs - both, internally and externally. However, don't get confused by Microsoft saying Magnesium *alloy* is stronger than Aluminium. It's still an alloy and maybe only 70% are Magnesium. Afaik, you can't anodise Magnesium. Thus, you can't get pretty rose gold colours as with Aluminium... Btw, I find my rMBP pretty strong...

Yeah it might becomes an issues when you want to charge phones from computer. These days I'm not using computer as charger mainly because my computer has very slow USB ports...

Well samsung said magnesium to their phones too, and the "report" also said they will make their magnesium just looks as great as aluminum, which I thought that would be a non sense, and never explained why in the article. It's a myth when it comes to materials, and Samsung were never that honest.

And that's a good thing. Their is nothing wrong with the current design that was introduced with the Retina MacBook Pro. And any new design knowing Apple will result in a thinner machine with less features and lower specs yet cost the same if not more, pay more for less for their bottom line to swell even more.
I hope they don't do this of course, but they did remove one of the best things about Mac laptops from the new MacBook Retina, the Mag Safe.

I would beg to differ. There is a problem with the current design. Thunderbolt 3 is out, USB C here, batterylife can be improved upon. All of this comes from an updated chasis and redesign. Without a redesign, we wont see the needed enhancements to the platform.

looks bigger by looking at the proportions and perspective...? but might be it depending on lens curvature?

It appears to larger than 12 inches? But then again, they most likely wont slip up like that.
