I'm curious if you guys have any issues with your Switches so far.... scratch screen, left-joy-con issue (kinda reminds me of left shark, and they're both blue!), dead pixels, etc?

Cheers
Fortunately, I've had absolutely zero issues on mine! I have two switches (one for me, and one for my daughter). Both work completely fine with none of the issues I keep hearing about. So it does make me wonder how much of it is defective batches that some people are getting, and how much of it is just internet trolling. (remember all the bendy iPhone 6 rumors that turned out not to be true?) I'm sure that many instances are genuine though, as manufacturing mishaps do also still happen. But fortunately as far a the switch is concerned (and even the iPhone 6 Plus for that matter) neither of those issues has ever happened to me personally, and I have never met anyone in real life who has. (just because I've only ever heard instances of it happening on forums doesn't mean it didn't happen though). But what it does show is that even if lots of people did genuinely have issues (which I'm sure many people did), there are also millions of people out there who have fully working ones (myself included). So if you ever do find yourself getting a faulty one, it's worth getting it replaced for a working one from wherever you bought it! I did hear some rumors that Nintendo themselves weren't replacing defective consoles though (though I obviously can't verify whether that's true or not), but even in instances like that, most countries are bound by law to replace defective items within the 1 year guarantee period, so that's the route I would have taken if it ever happened to me!

Not to me it doesn't and I am not attempting that at all.

I am within my return window and will definitely be following up with Nintendo.

Anytime you have to use a soldering iron on something...I'm not sure that rates as a simple fix.

I wasnt suggesting that any end user in any way shape or form attempt to fix the issue using the information in that article. I was merely pointing out that the "fix" is pretty simple for Nintendo to implement during production.

I've edited the original post to reflect that.

Out of curiosity, in your situation, could you try and reproduce the issue (in kickstand mode maybe) when you are further away from any other wireless device? It could be interference. Just a thought.

TP was able to be brought to the Wii U because they ported the GameCube version, which meant no additional development required for controls beyond remapping them and changing some button graphics. I have very serious doubts that they would go to the trouble to update Skyward Sword to play in the traditional manner.
I could understand them not wanting to go to all the trouble of flipping it, or change the stamina mechanism. But changing from motion control to GamePad stick shouldn't be that hard for them. (Having already done that on Twilight Princess, they already know how to do it, and would bu much much quicker than creating a new game from scratch).

As it'll probably be a few years until a brand new Zelda game is released, I also think it's highly likely that there will be a few remakes in between. Skyward Sword seems an obvious choice, as it's one of the few that haven't been recently remade already. (other than that I'd say it's phantom hourglass and spirit tracks) but the dual screen on the 3DS that both those games need would make that much harder to do on the Switch.

...I tried to play the Virtual Console versions they brought out on the WiiU, but the way they tried to handle both screens on one screen was awful, and it made it horrible to play! (would have made more sense for them to port those two onto 3DS Virtual Console instead of WiiU, as the 3DS already has the two screens it needs, plus them being games for the original DS means that those games are already natively in the right format anyway (due to all DS games playing on a 3DS), so could have been a regular eShop download without even needing to go through the Virtual Console). I would totally have bought those as downloads, as I have nearly every other Zelda game as eShop downloads on my 3DS except those two, so for everything else I can just bring my 3DS with me and all my games are already there without needing to bring a whole bunch of cartridges with me, so having those two games on there digitally aswell would have made it ideal!

Yea I have had it in 2 different places and both areas have shown the same issue. Very frustrating and I really dont want to have to call Nintendo but will try to find an email or chat possibly.

It is a common issue it seems and I hope they do something about it.

Really ? I assume you need programmable NFC tags ?

Yes, but those are rather easy to get hold of, especially in Europe. Just do a search for NTAG 215 tags, which have a 540-byte capacity. Then you can use a number of Android apps to write them. You can PM me if you want the specific apps.

Ok, I'm officially pissed. There I was, in the middle of Zelda, galloping across a field, when I got the final "Battery depleted" warning from the R joy con. That just stopped everything...and of course, everybody is all sold out of pro controllers and charging grips, so, I guess I'll be trying to play with the Switch in the dock, so I can charge up those bloody joy cons. Thanks, Nintendo.

It comes to mind that, at least with the Wii U, the gamepad came with the charger, and you could charge it up while you were playing. Grrr...

Finally got my neon Switch. I must say that the neon colours, while certainly very striking, looks quite bad under certain lighting conditions (mainly the blue one). I hope they offer limited editions joy cons or something in the future. However, build quality is very good for a Nintendo hardware. The screen is excellent as well

The joy cons in all configurations is surprisingly good. Tested the single joy con by playing some emulator games on my Mac. While not amazing, I think this is good enough for me. Was able to play for close to an hour without much discomfort. The analog stick is much better than the 3DS XL's one. I was able to pull off SF2 moves with relative ease using the analog stick. Very impressed. I hope this means I can save some $$ by not having to buy the Pro Controller right now. Need to purchase some NeoGeo games on the Switch to really test it out. 2P KoF, metal slug on the go will be incredible

The MBP charger seems to work well for the Switch. Can't say how it compares to the official one since that's still in the box. Very paranoid about the screen scratching so have yet to try docked mode at all. Still waiting for my screen protector to arrive

I have yet to experience joy con issues since I'm mostly playing very close to the switch itself. Overall, I'm very happy with the switch.

I got even more pissed, you can't do anything with the Switch with the controllers on, while it is in the dock.

Again, grrrrr....

The Joy Con controllers seem to be the most upsetting hardware features thus far with the Switch. Hopefully there is a fix appropriated in the future for these. CNasty is having issues one of the Joy Con controllers as well.

I am about 6 feet from the TV/Console.

I do have a Google Wifi on the top of the TV unit about 3 or 4 feet away and unsure if that may be causing any issues.

It is very sporadic and happens at the worst times while I play it seems. I am pretty annoyed about it as I was so excited to sit and finally dive into BOTW and then that.

Turn off that Google Wi-Fi and see if that helps.

If not, then Nintendo is just full of b*******.

You can take the power supply from the dock and use it directly on the switch so you can use it while it's charging.

Also if you have a newer laptop that uses USB-c to charge, you can use that power adapter to charge it as well.

Fortunately there is a much easier way! ...The way I play it mostly is in GamePad mode (where both JoyCons are attached to the tablet, and the tablet is the main screen). That way your JoyCons are permanently receiving power, and getting charged whilst you're playing, as your JoyCons get charged from the tablet itself. The JoyCons themsleves don't actually require much power, yet they hold a charge way longer than the tablet does. But even if your tablet runs out of battery, there's a really easy way to solve that aswell...

Was just going to say the exact same thing! The power cable plugged into the tablet, with the joycons plugged into the screen, and played in handheld mode, means it doesn't even need to be docked, and you can play continuously without ever having to worry about the battery, and its' charging the whole time whist you're doing this! (that's pretty much how I used to play my WiiU anyway whenever the GamePad battery died mid-play during a long session, so it's essentially the same thing, just on a Switch!)

One other thing to note though, there was an interesting power experiment done I saw on a YouTube channel called TheKnow. What they found was, although the power socket on a Switch is USB-TypeC, so any TypeC cable will fit it, that you should use the actual power adaptor that comes with your Switch to do that if you need to charge at the same time as playing, as the adaptor provides enough power to do it, whereas cables alone do not. (apparently using cables alone does still work, just it takes a really long time, so the actual power unit is quicker because it's powerful enough to handle it).

The video I saw about this was quite interesting. Here it is if you wanted to see it...
I'd recommend watching the whole video, as there is also some good stuff to know about testing using a switch with a portable battery pack, but if you just want to skip to the bit I was referring to earlier about using the home power socket instead of just a TypeC cable, then that part's about 3 minutes in.

Hope this helps. ;)

If I were to give Nintendo an advice on the switch lite (or a redesigned one...)would be A to make a better kickstand ....may be something a la Surface and B a place to attach the Joycon laces... i mean the meaning of those is to make the joycon more confortable when playing with someone, and being a portable console, it would make sense to make them attach to the console so you have them when outside instead of carrying them in a pouch (or even worse not having them with you).

I found a fix on Reddit that involves:
  • Undocking the Switch
  • Going into the settings and finding controller settings
  • Unsyncing them if you will
  • Power down the device, not sleep
  • Power on and resync

I will not say it fixed it as of yet as last night I only played in handheld mode and it worked great so I will try tonight docking and using my grip again and see how it goes.

It has claims for working for others on Reddit so it was worth a try.

GameXplain(on YouTube) has been doing some good work documenting and testing this issue (pre and post patch). Check out their videos. There seems to be an app or something on the Switch where you can test the controllers (with realtime feedback).

Good luck. Post results.

Cheers

What is your friend code!

Mines 3796 4347 6005 :)

Edit: also, and I might have said this already, but Zelda and the Switch have provided/are providing the single best game experience I've ever had. I haven't been this excited for gaming since Ocarina of Time was released as my friends and myself were jumping between that and Goldeneye. Now I get it from Zelda, Snipperclips, and Metal Slug 3.

I'm playing on the big TV, then in the kitchen if it's my partners turn to cook, then in a library, at a train station - the same huge console experience in malleable form. What a sublime setup this is.

Edit 2: And Zelda. I have few words left to describe this. I get tired of the weapon durability thing but that's it. What an adventure.
Yeah, the weapons breaking thing does get a bit tedious. Fortunately though, weapons are so easy to get, that the bigger problem I tend to have is not having enough slots to store them all in! (I hear that there are weapon slot upgrades later on in the game though, and there are definitely weapon durability upgrades also!). -I've upgraded a few weapons and some of link's costumes already, which each enhance some of link's abilities. I have also heard that there are even some weapons which are unbreakable! (though I've not got any of those yet). I'm not sure if it's just select special weapons that are unbreakable that you get from doing special sidequests, or whether there is a way to upgrade even the more basic ones to become that way later on in the game in order to do that!) But very much looking forward to unlocking those!

Thoroughly enjoying the game so far though! (but something gives me the feeling that I may be here a while, and it's going to be quite a challenge to 100% this game! ...but I ain't gonna stop until I do though!) It's been pretty awesome so far. Have been playing it every night, and unlocked many things, yet I've barely even scratched the surface! I've been trying to do it without a game guide so far, but I did order one though (which arrived today), so will be able to look up some of the more useful stuff later on tonight! There are so many things in this game, that you could compete it and not realize that there is a whole tonne of other hidden elements of the game that we didn't even know existed. So I like getting guides just so that I get to experience the full thing! (Zelda is always jam packed with lots of stuff like that, only probably moreso with this version than ever before!)

I understand A, and agree that an improved kickstand would be lovely, even if it isn't as flexible as Microsoft's Surface.

I am struggling to understand what you mean by B. I have found the controllers to be relatively comfortable when holding them sideways, and as soon as we're done playing, we just slot them right back into the rails on the console. So I'm afraid I don't follow...

i love the ease and satisfying click and console sound when attaching the joycons.

I will say though I am not a huge fan of them. They are very small for my large hands and kind of awkwardly designed when used as a stand alone device with the position of the sticks.

The most comfortable so far has been utilizing the included grip until I can find a Pro Controller which has been almost impossible.

I commend those who purchased the Pro controller right away. That item is completely back ordered.
