I'm really enjoying Arms. Haven't played much of it because I'm not that good an my partner keeps owning me :) love that theme tune though and I think it's going to be stuck in my head for a while.

Picked up the Zelda DLC and Gonner. Gonner is great fun but I expected a bit more depth to it. There's a real lack of indie games that take simple concepts and make them "full" experiences, like Binding of Isaac (but I'm not a fan of). I hope the experiences start to fatten up to match their new prices.

Looking forward to the Minecraft update too, because theoretically "Better Together" should allow a Switch user to connect to your PC running MC with its infinite map size, a fun way of getting around console limitations!

Due to the lack of VC and an itch to play Link to the Past I've found myself swapping the Switch for my 3DS when going out recently.

Yeah, it's a pity the console versions of Minecraft don't allow mods though. (obviously it would be impossible for them to do, being closed source and all). I got Minecraft for the Switch in the end, but then my daughter saw a "Witchery" mod that she desperately wanted, so I had to track down a really old version of Minecraft PC for her in order to do it. Just about got it working, but it's buggy and slow to be honest. (though that's more to do with the old PC I installed it on, rather than the mod itself). - Didn't want to risk installing that on any of my good machines, as I'm not sure how safe some of the user generated java mods for it are, so on an old machine that I didn't care about anyway, it doesn't really matter so long as it works). Just about does the job though, so it's fine for her purposes without damaging my work machine. If there is a way to get her switch version to interact with the modded world that she's creating on the PC though, that would be a great workaround to sort of have the best of both. I've heard that all versions of minecraft will be cross platform soon though (except of course Sony who want to be awkward). Alot remains to be seen how configurable the cross platfrom play will work though (meaning, whether it's specific users you get to interact with, or whether it's randomly auto selected from the pool of globally online users). So I hope they do finally let you play with specific people when that all happens, as that would be the ideal way to do it

Picked up Shephy from the Japanese eshop because it's about 25% off the UK price! Looks like a fun little time waster.

I ordered a Neon Switch model from Amazon. Might sell it, but leaning towards keeping it. What shall be my first game? NBA Playground, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2?

Don't buy NBA playground on Switch If you have any other means of playing it. The Switch version is a half arsed port of the game .... Mario Kart 8 and Zelda BOTW, Arms & Splatoon 2 are safe choices though.

Picked up ARMs and it's very good. Looks great too docked.
Bought ARMS too. Still love the game alot, but in all honesty I expected to like it more than I did. (it's alot of fun, but can get a bit repetitive, if you know what I mean). Still a game worth having though in my opinion.

Cool! Always love seeing your tips of the lesser known games that you've helped us gineaupig that I might not otherwise have tried, as there are alot of good ones out there but I'm often hesitant to order ones that I don't know enough about. How's this one holding up so far?

Also, how did you get on with Digsea? (I remember you telling us about it a little while back) I downloaded the demo the other day, and the two main characters are kinda entertaining to listen to. (all sort of sarcastic humor, so kind of enjoyed that element of it so far)

Another one I have tried I quite liked were the Switch version of the Shantae Pirate one (I think it's called "Half Genie Hero" on the switch version of the game). Was one I was always tempted to play on WiiU, but never got round to. But after playing the switch version, kinda liked it.

One more for anyone who likes old-school Zelda-esque type games was "Kamiko". (it's very cheap, only under 5 bucks in the eu eShop, and probably similar on the others).
I'm not quite sure if it's finished or if I'm just missing where to find the final crystal to clear the first stage) -probably the latter, so I'll keep trying, as I kinda like it so far. But definitely worth a download (reminds me alot of a cross between A Link to the Past and the Minish Cap). If anyone else tries it, you'll see what I mean. (even the music is kinda cool on that one).

Finally, an update on the Splatoon joy-cons I was waiting for them to release.
Look what I found pop up today on Amazon France....
http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B072BZ66JL
(someone mentioned it on another forum, so raced to bag me of these some straight away while I still can, so very happy to have seen these this morning!)

EDIT: Have just noticed that the link isn't diverting to the actual page due to some weird autodivert behavior that macrumors sometimes has for non usa urls. So if it doesn't take you straight to the pink and green joycons, just copy and paste it rather than clicking on it, and you'll be able to find them. On failing that, I've just noticed that usa has these too...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072BZ66JL
(the usa ones seem to be 3rd party japan imports though) the ones on amazon France are proper amazon pre-orders.

Took my Switch out of the dock and on a recent flight and played Zelda BotW. It really did make the hours fly by.

I wonder if I would have preferred to play a game with the scale and complexity of a game like Zelda Phantom Hourglass(DS) instead in that environment. (Wouldnt mind seeing games like that make it to the Switch from Nintendo's portable teams)

True, while I love all Zelda games to the ends of the earth, sometimes I prefer playing them at home due to being able to look stuff up alot easier so that I can make sure that I don't miss anything before I get to the final boss (not so easy to do on planes, unless you're flying with an airline that has in-plane wifi, which is usually not a flight I can afford). So for plane journeys I often prefer to bring games with me that don't require anything, and that are just easy to play with just me and my console) -Though I have been known to bring Zelda games with me in the past, and coincidentally enough, I think Phantom Hourglass on the DS was actually the last Zelda game I actually did that for a few years back. What I did to solve the online problem was to save the item checklist pages from the ZeldaDungeon site's walkthroughs to my offline bookmarks on my iPhone, and just worked from that if I ever couldn't find a given heart piece or dungeon item, etc. (as back then, the walkthroughs on there for that game were all in text form, so was actually doable like that) but for video walkthroughs, would not have been so achievable.

Would love to see Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks be available on Switch, However, if they do that, I hope they implement a better system for dealing with the split screen. They brought those over to the wii, yet it made all the controls weird, as you had to play with the console gamepad sideways in order to fit the dual screens on one screen, and I found it very awkward to play like that. Ideally, I think those two games would have been better ported to the 3DS eShop instead of the Wii eShop, as the two screens which are heavily needed in those two games are already dual the way they need to be, so would have made for a more perfect port.

That's including after post-patch? I am looking to get MK8D, Splatoon 2.

Yeah, frame rate still flutters around like a goldfish having a seizure and graphically it's missing almost all the features of the other versions despite not really being that technical a a game visually (it should be fully achievable on switch) it's just missing them and it looks rough because of it. It's just a rushed port with little care made to it and it shows ..

I haven't played much. But it did make me think - there aren't any one-handed games on the Switch and Shephy would be a lovely game to use such a feature. I had a drink whilst playing it and I had to keep putting one of the joycons down whenever I wanted some of it... it's such a tiny little thing but it'd be so cool so just sit back relaxing with one joycon only!

But yeah it's pretty good. My partners been playing it too, it's pretty good to play in co-op too barking commands at each other :) .

I really want that Super Ping Pong game and Monster Hotel game on the Japanese eShop too but those aren't in English.

Ok! So! Boring story time:
The first SRPG I played was Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and I fell in love with the snowball fight tutorial level - it was so quaint and wholesome. What drives me to play more SRPGs is just to replicate that feeling but on a larger scale. I'm also really into the huge amount of customisation in these games, and I find the more customisation there is the less strict they are on methods of beating levels... like in Advance Wars' campaigns you basically had to follow a strict path in order to complete them so I never finished those. The more customisation; the less strict level design becomes.

But yeah I keep tinkering away on it. I've only played for a few hours and I generally get through 1 mission on each infrequent play... I do mean to properly sink my teeth into it but Minecraft and Zelda take up ALL of my spare time right now.

Never played it, never been a fan of its design. And there's some drama with the devs :D

-------------

I've been playing more of Arms recently. I fell out with it because I wasn't very good and just couldn't get my head around constantly dodging and fighting. Since V2 I've been playing as Max Brass and it's making a bit more sense to me due to the lack of auto aiming his arms have.

I like Half Genie Hero, but I also loved the previous Shantae games. Whilst Half Genie Hero has the looks, I do think the earlier games were better platformers generally though.

I am waiting for a price drop on wonderboy : Monster Island. I see it's €11.99 on PSN right now but I would like it on switch, but not for €19.99.

I got MK8, but still want to get another game possibly in addition to Splatoon 2. A lot of the options seem pricey. Not interested in getting BOTW until it drops in price.

Yeah, I want all my multiplats to be on the switch, the portability is huge, even if it means a slight drop in graphics.

Bought Mighty Gunvolt Burst and Shovel Knight Treasure Trove for a long-haul flight. Only played a couple stages of MGB, seems pretty cool. Almost finished the original campaign of Shovel Knight and I enjoyed it a lot, though I've heard Plague Knight's campaign isn't as good.

Almost picked up MK8D when it was $10 off on Amazon recently. I had MK8 on Wii U but never bought the DLC. Picked it up on a bit of a whim thinking it might be fun to play with the gf. Don't see a lot more purchases in my Switch's future until Mario + Rabbids in August.

I am hoping we get a Mario Party like game soon as my 5 year old is wearing thin on MK8.

Unless there are other games out there that the group feels I am missing for his age/skill level?

So I'm picking up a Switch this week for Splatoon 2.

I'm trying to decide whether to go Physical or Digital on my Switch games. Now that games are tied to user account instead of console, I'm leaning heavily towards digital for the convenience. What are you other folks doing on the Switch, Physical or Digital games?

I'm buying whatever is cheapest and often times that tends to be physical surprisingly.

Physical is usually 20% off retail price with Amazon Prime, Fry's, or Best Buy GCU. However, it's fairly easy to get discounted eShop currency up to 20% off as deals come around all of the time, so prices are similar between Physical and Digital for a savvy shopper (not factoring in resale residual value of Physical).

Remember that physical has resell/trade-in value...

Used copies at Gamestop have a 7 day money returned if you are unhappy...

Nowadays I've been mostly digital for all my consoles but somehow I've bought my two big games (Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) physical. Not sure if that trend will continue when Mario + Rabbids comes out...

Has there already been sales on the eshop for Zelda and MK8 for the Switch? Or is that still a long way out?

On Monday I'm probably buying one too. Trying to decide whether grey or neon.

I prefer grey, but neon looks more alive, but maybe too much neon that it will distract me from what's on screen.

Still a little bit undecided, since I mostly want to play Zelda and Mario this year, and to less extent Mario Kart. Don't see anything else I want to play for now. I mostly would want a Donkey Kong game and a Super Smash Bros.

It will cost me 400€ to buy the Switch, Zelda, a glass screen protector and the Pro controller. I really want to play Zelda, but with those 400€ I could play a LOT of games for my PS4.
