I followed the advice on this board and just called apple. The friendly guy upgraded me to 2-3 day shipping when I told him my sob story about being a student with a dead ibook who has had to borrow the laptops of friends in order to write her papers so that she can graduate college. All true!

I ordered a 20" , 1GB ram, 250 HD seconds after the store came up. I'd cancel and get it from my local apple store (nyc, soho) but the 150 dollars I saved by using the education store precludes me from this option.

In any case, Apple said my iMac would be shipping on the 16th and that he'd try to get it to me by the 18th, and guaranteed delivery by the 19th. Too bad all my finals are over at that point.

Well I just called Apple support and the girl I talked to was surprised to say the least. She tried calling UPS but they are updating the systems right now. The lady said that she has never seen a package go the opposite way before. She even verified if I lived in the United States and not Australia.

When you say "the opposite way" do you mean that your shipment went to the Phillipines instead of Alaska?

Yup as the phillippines is going southwest, whereas alaska is northeast from china.

I mentioned earlier that I thought it was "weird" that your shipment did not go to Alaska. Keep us up to date...

BTW...my iMac departed Sacramento at 7:06 AM headed for either Phoenix or Bosie, depending on the route to Las Vegas. Last thing I got from Apple went to Phoenix, then back up to Las Vegas. Still a hope for late Thursday delivery if the connection in Phoenix is a good one.

Dashboard package tracker for my iMac

A little OT but that Dashboard Package Tracker is great. I put in the Tracking # and it gets the tracking info from FedEx or UPS and automatically updates when a change occurs. Great Tiger feature!

In the US, we get an email from Apple indicating the item(s) have been shipped and lists a Tracking # to track the package. So to answer your question...it appears to be in the Shipped category. Do you receive a email from Apple indicating shipment?

My 20" just arrived. It's really freaking huge. And quiet. I had a very problematic Rev.A 17" that buzzed terribly, this one is very literally whisper quiet; I'm really impressed and delighted so far.

I got the dispatch notification! said, expected delivery time for my order is 6 - 7 days..

Edit: it just seems to be "Technically Speaking" to be shipped!!! I don't class my iMac ping-pong-ing around warehouses to be classed s shipped... if you know what I mine

Latest update is that I have bitched to my bank. Even though there is a pending transaction on the account (which i thought they canceled, but didn't) my bank put a hold on it because the merchant failed to meet expectations as expected. I had to fax over all my order confirmations and such to the bank before they did anything though.

So I am going to call Apple at 10 and tell them to either ship me a new one from the US and have it at my front door tomorrow or just forget everything because my bank isn't giving them a dime.

Stay on them...they have jerked you around enough. If they can't get it there Thursday, then tell them your willing to give them a break and have them deliver it on Friday prior to 10:30AM. Money talks even if they kind of have us since there is no other maker of Apple computers...we eventually end up buying from Apple sooner or later.

Good luck!

My 20" ordered on 5/3 (with 1GB RAM & BT-KB/M) was updated this morning from expected ship date of 5/10 to 5/18. I called and complained (gently) and asked for an express shipping upgrade - they offered & gave me an upgrade to 2-3 day shipping.

I ordered the same, 20" on 5/3, 1 GB RAM, BT KB/mouse.
It was to be shipped on or before 5-10, and it got changed to 5-18. I called and also recieved the 2 day shipping upgrade free of charge. Looks like we will have to wait until next friday for our iMacs.

*Question for everyone*

Has anyone who ordered a 20" iMac, with 1GB RAM upgrade and the BT KB/M upgrade as well actually recieved their computer yet? Please note I am just interested if anyone has recieved their iMac if it was this exact configuration...wondering what upgrade is causing the hold up.

Same deal I think. I still have the same 20"/400GB/1GB RAM ordered. I talked to the guy of Apple at the phone today, and he tried to explain to me how transporting works and that TNT doesn't let fly a plane to Luxemburg for my computer alone. I nearly told him I know already two people with the same iMac's in the same place waiting for the plane to depart, but I'll save that for next time. :D

It appears to be the RAM upgrade. My order was stock with only the BT K/M upgrade and it shipped on the Estimated Ship Date of 5/10. FedEx is stating delivery on 5/13 via Standard Apple Free Shipping. It is presently between Sacramento CA and Las Vegas NV.

i wish that were true. my girlfriend ordered her 20" stock with only the BT K/M upgrade the day they were announced. her order was pushed back to that 5/18 delivery date like other folks here.

I ordered 16 minutes after the Store opened with the new iMac's. I guess maybe I got the last horse in the barn.

I imagine the demand has been heavy and without the stores having the 20" models in stock, the online store probably got a lot of orders. I have no idea how Apple deals with orders they fill and whether they take them in order of receipt or not. I guess I am lucky to squeeze out one prior to the next shipping date of 5/18.

My status did not change from Sent to Manufacturing to Preparing for Shipping until sometime yesterday (5/10) and then last night at 9:33PM PDT it went to Shipped with the Tracking # on the Order Status page.

So lets say (theoretically) no one from now orders an iMac, does that mean we'll never get it!! :)

I checked the estimated shipping times with various extras from the Apple store:

20" Stock - Same Day
Ram - 3-5 Days
HD - 3-5 Days
BT - 3-5 Days

Lets see if I really do get it shipped tomorrow. I ordered it yesterday and it said yesterday it would ship that day, but I just got an e-mail from Apple saying it will ship today. Lets see. :D

Haha, well, that'd be logically correct, but don't worry ;)
Here's what my shipment status page says:
Shipment Picked Up SHANGHAI, SH, CN 09 May 2005 22:00

Well, when no other things would be transported from Shanghai to, let's say, half of Europe, I think this should be the case. However, sometime they should ship it overhere, and I hope it's rather soon.

I ordered my 20" with 1 GB RAM and BT K/M on 5/3. The guy I ordered with said he would be really surprised if it really took until 5/10 to ship. Well it's now past ship date and I got pushed back to 5/18, which is ridiculous. I just called Apple again and the person on the phone said that there was nothing he could do. He couldn't even upgrade my shipping because it was too late. I asked him where it would be shipping from when it did ship and he said California and that it would take 3-5 days to get to me after it shipped. I'm just so super frustrated as I know everyone here is too. I'm a lifelong Apple-only user and this whole experience is leaving a very sour taste in my mouth.

I went for the stock 512MB iMac - but opted for the 400GB hard drive...

Instead of ordering my extra 1GB of memory from Apple at the time of purchase, I went with Crucial.com - funny thing is that my memory arrived 3 days after I'd ordered it!

I'm not fussed about the wait - after all, I've still got the Cube. And next month this will all be a distant memory. Perhaps we can leave this thread up so we can all reminisce about our time of eager anticipation in later months...!

;)

Crucial's "free shipping" is 2nd day air. Very impressive

Now I have a gig of RAM and no PM to put it in (yet). :sad panda:
