It really seems like all our european iMac orders are collected somewhere in Shanghai. At least our iMacs are in good company for the long-distance flight. :) I hope TNT has enough units soon to give us a departure scan.

Well I just spoke to Apple after calling already 2 times this morning. UPS International had computer problems all morning. I finally got an answer. Package was released from customs and I should have it as early as tomorrow or as late as Friday. The website is still not updated. Finally some clear answers!!

Preparing Shipment

Now after my shipment date was pushed back to no later than 5/18, my iMac is in "preparing shipment". I hope it is shipping from California and not China, like others I have read on here. I shouldn't be so hopeful. Now I am just waiting for the shipping confirmation and the tracking number.

Personally I think that my mac is shipping with MANY macs destined for apple warehouses and/or stores.

I order on 5/6 and it shipped today from sacramento. Expected delivery is friday.

I am pretty relieved, I thought I would have to wait another 2 weeks.

Question about RAM, if I buy a gig stick will it be fine? I have heard horror stories when you have 512 and a 1 gig, that its uneven.

Same here! Mine now says 'preparing shipment' too, whereas it still showed the 'sent to manufacturing' earlier today when the ship date was moved back to 5/18 from 5/10. And, the order page now reflects the updated '2-day' shipping upgrade they gave me for the delay.

I'm crossing my fingers that I get it before I leave for vacation next Tuesday (5/17).

Edit: Apple sent me an email an hour ago confirming they shipped it! FedEx shows it was picked up from CA about 30 minutes ago! Looks like I should have it by Friday! Wheeeeee! :D :D :D

i'm curious about this too, i've read a few offhand remarks here and there but haven't seen anything definitive. weird that 1.5MB of RAM would give you worse performance than just 1gig.

I had no idea that it still had to go through customs as there isn't any border enforcement anymore.

It depends. Random packages are still opened by customs as every country in the EU has different laws on drugs, tabak, alcohol, plants, pornography... Most mail remains unopened though. ;)
I don't think they open a sealed iMac box as apple smuggling is pretty unlikely. But you never know...

For PowerMacs, you HAVE to install memory in pairs (ex 1GB=2x512MB) because it's dual channel. For iMacs, however, it appears that this is NOT necessary, and it's fine to have 1 stick of 512 and one stick of 1GB for example.

It's on it's way!

Mine is on it's way via FedEx 2-day service from CA...should have it by Friday. If it had shipped yesterday as planned by ground, it may have arrived the same day or a day or two after that. But, thanks to this morning's order delay notice, and the upgrade to 2-day service they gave me after I complained, it looks like I'll still get it around the same time as originally projected. Color me happy and tickle me pink! :p

Hmm..mine is still processing.
They estimated it would ship today but it doesn't look that way.

How did some of you get faster shipping? I called today and they didn't offer it. I even told them that I am changing over from the PC to the iMac. Any tips? :D

I paid for faster shipping but it wasn't really any faster. In fact it would be slower because if I had chosen for free delivery I probably would have an imac now...

This is my first post from the new iMac I just picked up at the Apple Store on Michigan Ave in Chicago.

I really like it, but its my wife's now that I'm done setting it up. I will have to install some software and get folding on here along with Lightwave so I can make it part of my render farm....:D

I won't be putting folding on until I'm done with my current animation - but it will be nice to double my output now, get back some of my position in the top 100 folders.

The Apple guy told me it was going to Luxemburg, and than the Netherlands. I live in the Netherlands so that's a good point for me. However, no recent changes on the tracking page, after a good night of sleep I hoped it would be around next of my door, but no luck.

Well, they gave an estimation of 2-5 work days shipping in the first, so when it isn't here by Tuesday I'm gonna get really mad.

I knew the imacs were cheap compared to the last imacs, but the 20inch is really amazing. I just got a HP brochure in the mail and for $100 more I would have gotten much less of a computer. For those interested...

HP Workstation xw4200
$AU2999
P4 3.2ghz 1mb cache 800mhz FSB
XP pro
80gb HD
1GB RAM
Nvidia FX 540
19"TFT
And interesting they also include AVID Express

I wont bother putting up the iMac specs but damn we get a good deal on a brand name computer! poor HP buyers :)

I reckon as soon as I get my iMac there will be a host of new orders as I show it off and tell people how much it cost :)
