Sharing my BB visit

Thank you for doing that!

Nice to see these in real life. Wow there is a lot of Titanium on the Ultra. I like that. Unfortunately I don't like that purple at all or the bronze color accent of the Titanium.

The s24 and plus look nice. I like the skimmer bezels and flat edges.

Too bad they didn't have the purple s24+ on display.

But seriously that was really nice to share with everyone!

I was pleasantly surprised how nice the S+ looked and felt and regular s24 was not too shabby either..Haha definitely a lot of titanium..

Is it true the titanium only saved them 1 gram in weight? Lol
It was purely a marketing decision since Titanium is 5 x more expensive and has almost identical properties to aluminum. The problem I see with Titanium is that it transfers a lot more shock than aluminum and we still have a glass sandwich. I guess we will see soon enough.

I just confirmed with Samsung sales rep that only the Ultra gets corning armor glass and everyone else gets Victus 2 and only the Ultra gets Titanium. The plus has aluminum armor for the first time and the s24 just has aluminum.

Personally I could care less about Titanium but I would like the corning armor which is supposed to be 4 x more scratch resistant than Victus 2 which would make it closer to sapphire than glass?? It sure would be nice to not have to use a screen protector and not get scratches!

Yeah but what's with that crappy small bar? I want nothing there. Nada. Can it not be removed?
Yep like you I have zip on my Fold 5

I can only presume that a goodlock feature will come and you can substitute say a long press on a button to initiate the AI feature else it maybe disable some AI features to avoid having the bar

That sucks. The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s titanium shedded 20 grams compared to the previous 14 Pro Max. Which is most definitely noticeable. I guess it does reek of copying Apple with titanium :\ I was hoping the S24U would be a super featherweight big smart phone with titanium oh well

The scratch resistance will probably be about the same or on par wirh Apple’s Ceramic Shield, going by scratch tests online

My question is: will the anti-reflectiveness of the new screen make it more scratch prone? I’ve owned nice watches with AR coatings and they definitely scratch… and that was on top of sapphire glass!

I don't think you can attribute all the 20g to the titanium however the IP was going from stainless to titanium not Ali hence the saving is bigger :)

My IP15PMax with Apple wallet is heavier than my Fold 5 with an Spen case LOL

That’s true, I guess I forgot how heavy stainless steel was. Still, you know what I mean lol. Definitely marketing and it doesn’t help with the inflated prices either.

Actually Ceramic shield is not as scratch resistant at least as far as the claims they are making goes. It is also supposed to be less reflective than Victus 2 and there is no coating they are applying.

Of course there is a huge weight reduction going from thick stainless steel to thin Titanium. While Samsung was already using Aluminum which is about the same weight as Ti. It is still light for it's size and considering there is an s pen stuck in there too. Having stylus support is pretty sweet.

it will be interesting to see if pre-order sales are up compared to last years S23 range. My delivery date says 24th ie Wednesday. My order is still on “preparing for dispatch“ tho.

The thing that annoys me about the S24+ is the fact it has no camera upgrades at all, Samsung can make all the claims they like about an upgraded imaging engine but that just strikes me as marketing talk. For them not to upgrade in some way is just cheap especially as there are cheaper phones with arguably better camera setups now.

The anti reflection on the S24 Ultra is for real!

I've obtained generally good/consistent results with the S23+ cameras and not surprised they focused on hardware "refinements" in other areas.

Not sure what the cost differential is between the 23 and 24 displays. I imagine that took a decent bite out of what could be added elsewhere while staying at the same retail price.

How much shatter resistance are we giving up to get the increased scratch resistance?

They are saying 4 times more scratch resistant than competitors glass and specifically saying that putting the phone in your pocket with keys did NOT result in ANY micro scratching!! They also said it is 3 times more drop resistant than competitors glass.

So to answer your question it seems you aren't giving up anything.

If this glass lives up to corning's claims then it is going to be a game changer. It will filter down to the other models in the s series as time goes on.

At least we have completely flat screens on the s24 and s24 plus and it is easy to add a tempered glass screen protector.

This one feature alone is pretty amazing and I don't understand all the underwhelming responses to the Ultra this year when you consider the stuff packed into the Ultra. You get scratch resistant Titanium frame, Gorilla armor glass, s pen, amazing cameras, 8 gen 3, and a FLAT screen!!

I am getting the s 24 plus and the gorilla armor is pretty tempting because I really hate using any screen protector but I HATE micro scratches on my screen. But the cost difference is just too big and the Plus has a lot of good stuff this year.

I don't see inflated prices in real terms even the UK this year they are getting great bundles with :

Free 2x mem upgrade,

Free watch, case, screen protector etc accessory voucher

Some great trade in deals

Free subscriptions to some streaming services

Additionally and often forgotten is when you trade in your getting another full year (min) OEM warranty

Most early adopters are getting $200-500 real savings and can see past simple sticker price comparisons that do not represent real ownership costs

Gorilla glass is a let down every single year. I expect this latest version will perform just as badly in Jerry's scratch test. Screen protectors are always needed but yeah, finally we get a flat screen.
