Whut? Samsung has been moving us away from those 3 buttons for ages and now I'm fully gesture-compliant I have to go back to using those 3 OLED-burning buttons? Can someone with a S24U explain this a bit better?
I do not think you have to have the 3 buttons back :)

When I look at Flossy's unboxing he just has a small bar so he can select AI features, seems he has it set on all screens this way and otherwise uses gestures :)

The Ultra is always Samsung's golden baby. It gets all the attention and media hype. It is almost as if the s24 is an afterthought. I really think that Samsung needs to change this strategy. Economics are changing and these are not short term trends so having a really good product at different price points is more important even with carrier subsidies.

That being said I would not buy the regular s24 when the plus is so much better. Both the s24 and the s24 plus should have gotten some camera sensors upgrades. Kind of inexcusable not to put at least more megapixels and bigger sensors for light. 5x optical zoom?

Totally agree the Plus at the very least should have had a camera upgrade of some sort.

On Swappa recent sales of mint 256gb P8P range from $650 to $700-ish, when I last checked. With selling fees and shipping (I always send UPS w/ insurance and signature required) it'd be closer to ~$600 coming to me, if that. I doubt it'd sell for $750. Worth the peace of mind to me, I'm aware of potential BS with Samsung trade-ins, hope for the best.

@edubfromktown - it was applied automatically when I logged in to place the order. It counted as an extra $50 to put towards accessories, etc.
Thanks for the info.

I cancelled my initial order without the extra $50 credit and now sitting on the fence:
  • + Found the $50 e-mail in my spam folder (sort of grumbled that applies only to accessories).
  • + My Pixel 8 Pro return completed successfully (I was surprised Samsung wasn't offering more trade in for it!)
  • + I read the Tom's article about S24 Ultra blowing away iPhone 15 Pro Max battery life (so the new processor may have gained additional efficiency). 23+ battery has been great for me (typically 2 days usage (charged to 80% and dropping to 20-25% is no problem).
  • ~ With the added RAM, storage and better display I'm more likely to hang onto it for a longer period of time and hopefully the 7 years of support will add a little in the resale value department at least :)
  • - This S23+ vs S24+ article is right about on the mark- I have 80% or so of the features already.
  • - The trade-in is a wash for me... (including tax!) so ordering a 24+ 12/512 GB was somewhat more enticing. At ~$350 or so more total to get this one. I'm not feeling it so far.
Still considering a reconstituted order (Black 24+) with the addition of Galaxy Buds2 Pro for $24.99 including the pre-order discount.

I'm guessing that it's just the small gesture bar that would be forced. This is usually a horizontal gray line near the bottom of the display, with a bit of blank space above and below. It feels like a small waste of screen real estate, but perhaps some apps don't work properly when the bar is hidden.
I think they're forcing a permanent gesture bar because of the AI features (to access some of them, you need to press and hold the bar). I'm sure they can figure out a way to have users access those features without having the gesture bar present...

Also, it looks like they completely went away with the 3-dot/whatever navigation option as well.

I took a peek at the phone today at BB.. it feels weird having a completely flat screen.. I think most people will have cases on it but I did notice that that violet color on the back in connection to the rest of the phone did not flow aesthetically pleasing to my eyes.. that one section looked as if taken from another phone ... Case on solved... Otherwise the usual quality Samsung screen looked excellent in the store lighting as well as snapped a couple of photos that came out pleasing... Phone is snappy.. didn't get a chance to play with the gestures or the bar as more people were coming in looking at the phone..

I also went to a store to check it out today. My last Samsung was the Note 10+ and I have have missed the S Pen since I got rid of it.
It felt great to use the pen again.

I currently have the Pixel 8 Pro and I think the S24 camera will disappoint me. Lots of other things will make up for it though.

Perhaps I'll keep both.

Haha ...I would go all Gray to flow right ...it looked to me like the skins you love so much ..
Haha yeah it does look a bit like a skin from renders.
I’m alright with it looking like one and not being one. 😛

It's a nice phone though otherwise..and most peeps would use the case ...keep them slim though I wouldn't want to add too much to overall dimensions

Visited Best Buy today as well to check out the phones in person. They had the marble gray color that I pre-ordered, happy with my selection. The S24+ feels great in the hand, display looks great, SO light compared to the 15 PM and felt lighter than the P8 Pro.

Ultra also is amazing, flat display great. I played with it and the s-pen for a few mins. Way too big for me and I’d likely never use the pen, but really nice device and I see the appeal of the phone.

The navigation bar at bottom of screen didn’t stand out to me, maybe they’ll allow hiding of it again in a future update?

Nice to hear that the s24+ is lighter than the Pixel 8 Pro! I was hoping as much.

I like big phones and always have but there is a tipping point where things get unwieldy. The s23 ultra as much as I loved using that phone was one of those phones that could become a bit much. Samsung does a really good job of balancing size and weight but in day to day use I found it just a bit cumbersome with no big difference in screen between 6.7" and 6.8" but big difference in weight and size. I think a lot of that has to do with the s pen.

I had an s22 plus and I thought that phone was so perfect in dimensions and the s24 plus is basically the same dimensions with a bigger screen and smaller bezels which sounds amazing.

I really like my Pixel 8 Pro but I think the s24 plus is going to give it a run for the money in every department but the cameras. If I am going to be in a situation where I need cameras then the Pixel 8 Pro is it.

So I am pretty excited because the one thing that held me back from loving the s22 plus was the full HD. Now with quad hd and completely flat screen with no curve at all, 12 gb ram, you are getting most of the really good stuff.

I originally ordered the exclusive blue. But I couldn't tell by the pictures the real color. I really hated the 4th gen iPad air blue that you could barely tell it was blue. Seemed very similar the more I looked. So I decided that I was tired of sort of a color. My s23 ultra was a sort of green. So I returned the order and got the violet purple or whatever they call it. Kind of an indigo/purple color. The aluminum rails also match.

The Ultra has funky colors this year. The blue and lime/green are my favorite but the purple looks bad with the gold accents. I don't like the combo. I like the Ti frame although I still don't really see the purpose when Aluminum armor is good.

I am really curious about the corning armor glass that is supposed to be 4 times more scratch resistant. So that puts it a lot closer to sapphire? Why only the ultra? At least putting a tempered glass screen protector will be easy.

Only if you turn off circle to select I believe
So you can totally get rid of the bar and the gap at the bottom? At the moment I have nothing down there on my S23U and would like it to remain that way. The grey line was one of the many reasons I got rid of my iPad.

From what I’ve seen in online videos, you have to turn off the circle to select feature or switch to the buttons option. The reason being is because you have to hold down in order to use the circle to select feature.

i can see woman using it more than men. they see someone on tiktok or pinterest and want their bag or shoes or dress, boom! in the shopping cart.

Yea good point and why not have the option …always better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it …easy toggle on off…
