How are you able to do that? There was no option to do so when I checked out the S24’s at Best Buy.
Can you explain how you removed the bar? What settings, etc. I could not find anything all throughout the settings. Obviously I am missing something. Appreciate any help.

So I just tested the 8 Gen 3 against the Tensor G3 and it isn't pretty. Just the GPU in open cl was three times higher on 8 Gen 3. Not 30% no, 300% difference.

The cpu difference is about 30% in single core and around 45% better on the 8 Gen 3.

I am going to test against the 8 Gen 2 next. Then we can have a nice real life frame of reference as unscientific as it is. I realized that I tested with adaptive battery on. I am going to turn it off and see if the scores change. Should see a little higher results.

Obviously these are just burst test benchmarks. It will be interesting to run some stress tests and retest to see how much each chip throttles under heavy sustained loads.

I will run more tests if people are interested.
Honestly do benchmarks really matter in everyday use these days, I have the Pixel 8 Pro and it runs everything fine that i use this phone for, If i went and bought a S24 Ultra today would i instantly noticed that extra 45% extra performance watching YouTube, sending a message, taking a picture or recording a video paying for things using google pay etc etc.....nope.

As for throttling you may be slightly disappointed with the S24 Ultra.

Yeah thanks, I will do my own testing.

You seem to have some kind of agenda but I am just presenting numbers for those that are interested. You can make whatever judgement you want from it.

I will do some stress testing and we will see what happens. I seriously doubt that the 8 gen 3 throttles as bad or performs worse than the Tensor G3 no matter the circumstances. However, I never said it was a bad chip and I am going to compare others?

Sounds like you're confusing 2 different phone types a d models. S-Pen is only built in with the Ultra series.

The Fold 3-5 models have IPx5 dust resistance! It's water resistance with officially tested and support that we're waiting for in ANY Fold model from any manufacturer.

Also Fold series is the ONLy foldable with IP rating in water or dust!
I don’t think you quite understood what I wrote. I’m well aware the Fold series doesn’t have a built in S-pen (which is what I explicitly stated ) and there is no dust ingress rating on the Fold 5 either.

Totally. Mr. Who seems like a total fake chode.

These grifter YouTubers are so fake. Of course they like the shiny new toy, S24 Ultra but they'll go right back to their baby iPhone.

Or reviewers saying they're switching from the iPhone to the new Android, but you see them with the Apple Watch on LOL.

Who you crapping?
Totally agree with this. These YouTubers do not want to bite the hand that feeds them so they will say what is needed for them to get the next shiny thing for free.

Coming from the P8P, the only thing that I miss is the call screening. Yes you have the Call Assist on the S24U, but it doesn't happen automatically. If they added that, I'd forget all about my Pixel lol.
The P8P auto call screening (ie where google assistant answers the call) only works in the US and manual screening is only in 10 other countries:;

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Spain
  • UK
  • US

The Samsung spam detection screening seems to work in many countries in my experience :)

Great, now Apple can pay wall basic OS features too.

I don't really like the idea of a subscription to use the features of my OS. Those said features should be a selling point of the OS not a profit center. If all the AI features are on device as mentioned then why would they need to charge you extra? The software of the AI is part of iOS R&D and we pay for all of that as part of the cost of the hardware.

Google is the only one doing it right. They make the AI features exclusive to their brand but they aren't trying to monetize it and it is the best at the moment. If Apple or Samsung ever try to charge I hope they get a ton of push back.

I do like Apples idea of keeping the AI on device. I am sure when they jump all in, it will be worth the wait.

Oh definitely, I have no desire to subscribe just for AI features on ANY device. What I meant was because I'm already subscribed to Apple One, for Apple Music, Apple TV Plus and Apple Fitness, I don't mind getting an extra feature in my subscription. I wouldn't pay for it separately if Apple decided to just add it as subscription on its own.

I personally don't think the AI features on the S24 Ultra are worth paying for. They are nice, and some like circle to select are more useful than others (there isn't going to be many times when I want to alter a picture by moving someone or making them look bigger), but I still don't think they are worth paying for.

circle to select is a great feature but in reality it's a google feature so will be on pixels too shortly.

I'm too old for all this AI stuff. I do what I do on my phones and unless something staggeringly good comes along I'll continue to use them in the way I do now. I already switch off Siri/Hey Google/Bixby/Alexa etc from all my devices and don't like software listening in.

However I expect the kids will be all over these AI features.

Yeah agreed. Having used the S24 and seen the camera output Vs the Pixel and even the regular iPhone 15, there's absolutely no competition. The hardware is nice but that's about it for me.

As I’ve said before on here, it’s kind of inexcusable at the price and just Samsung looking to cut corners.

The One Plus 12 looks to be a beast to be honest. But how long do they support their devices? Will it get 7 years of security or software updates? How is the camera on the OnePlus lineup? I have had several OnePlus phones over the years and the cameras have been lacking if we are all being honest.

Funny you should mention camera hardware and software on the Pixel 8 pro. Isn't Google famous for using the same hardware for years and just using their industry leading algorithm to teak the images? How is the zoom on the P8P?

I have both the P8P and the S24U and so far the S24U shines a lot brighter for me in just about all phases of how I measure a smartphones worth and my use cases. I also see where someone else might feel entirely different!

BUT what you won't see me doing is going into the P8P thread and putting down the phone because it might not fit my uses cases and I prefer something else. I personally feel that is disrespectful of the people that the P8P is their favorite phone.

IMHO I feel the S24U is better for me and my uses and preferences than the P8P and 15PM. For me it just adds more functionality and productivity than the others.
But your mileage may vary because it is all subjective.

In other words you cannot put up with some reasonable criticism. I don’t have a dog in this fight as I have a OnePlus 6, but people really need to stop being so thin skinned that even a hint of criticism no matter how well put engenders their ire.

I really wish most of the AI features of the S24 lineup come to the S23. We don't know which ones are coming, but I sure hope all of them, since one of Samsung's bosses said they tried them in the S23 and worked well. I'm really excited for the One UI 6.1 update, with iOS-like lockscreen widgets (loved them on my iPhone 12), generative AI wallpaper, etc. I also hope Circle to search comes included in the update for the S23 series. Seems like a feature perfectly possible on all phones.

I did compare my S23+ to the S24+ the other day at a store. Love a new shinny toy. Colors were a but muted in the S24+ compared to my S23+. The new design is cool and the purple color is lovely. I actually liked the S24 more than the other ones, thanks to the slightly bigger screen. I think 6.4 would be the ideal spot. With it's bigger screen, I could see myself maybe going back to a smaller overall phone, which is always a plus for comodity.

It didn't. I was basically saying that the numbers in comparison don't look good. How is that implying anything. It is just reading the numbers.

Just for reference I love the Pixel 8 Pro and the Tensor G3 is a huge improvement over the G2. I also had a Pixel 7 Pro.

But at the end of the day at least in my personal opinion I can feel a difference between the Tensor G3 and the 8 Gen 3. The 8 Gen 3 is faster. Does that make the Tensor G3 bad? No. It just means that QC has made a lot of real improvements. The Tensor G4 will be out this year and if it is anything like the Exynos 2400 it should be a decent chip.

no ire here..... No thin skin.....It is just funny how people come out of the woodwork to cast shade on a phone they have no intention of getting..... That is not their favorite or current brand.....

I would love one and would get one but I have far too much tech in my life, plus can’t justify spending that kind of money on a phone.

Anyone in the UK that got the £30 galaxy store voucher, what are you using it on?

Yes, I've claimed mine.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to use it on yet, though I was thinking of perhaps seeing if it could be used for an in-app purchase for Lightroom.

Would be interested to hear how you get on with that. Can't really see anything to spend mine one. I saw Light Room, was the only thing that really stood out.
