Oh yeah for 24 months. I don't know anybody who pays £600 for a phone in one whack. It feels like a massive waste of money like that whereas a contract absorbs the cost even if it's more expensive in the long term. The good thing these days is you can almost tell a carrier how much you want to pay per month. As long as the phone cost is covered they will fight over themselves for your business. It's s but different with iPhones however.

He said Samsung dropped that price by 60%

All samsung needs to do to succeed, is to accept that its brand (Samsung Electronics) will never compete with the iPhone in price. People do not want to spend $950 on a phone and then be laughed at for it, which is what I do when somebody shows me a 128GB S6 Edge. Then I apologize for laughing because that is rude :D

The owner was probably laughing at your iPhone because he got much more bang for his buck.

Not so sure about a 'massive waste', in an 'at best' scenario you are getting a 24mo 0% interest loan for $600. On android, it is worth it not to have a carrier variant IMO. iPhone it doesnt matter, yes - I'd be more inclined to take free financing.

This happens in the UK now, on O2 at any rate. We have an airtime plan and a device plan. The device plan is interest-free and can be paid off at any time. When it is paid off, either after 24 months by default or if you settle it early, you can get a new handset.

You said in your own words UK don't have subsidised plans and the note4 is 60% cheaper and you bought one for 60% off full retail price 3 months after it came out

These are your own words.

I said there are no IPHONES subsidised as a reference to your stupid comments. As for the Note 4 price, this is a price drop. Android phones always depreciate quicker. This is not a subsidy. Current price for new Note 4 is around £400.

I also said it is because of the prices of iPhones that you no longer can buy a £600 phone eg S6 samsung on release date for £45pm for 12 months i.e cheaper than the actual cost of the phone and with the bonus of a plan. Before the iphone arrived I was buying Nokia 88xx series cheaper with a plan than buying it outright. These are subsidised phones. Back in the day, a phone taken out on contract would be at a fraction of the sim free price. Nowadays , carriers mask the actual cost of the phone in the monthly payments and you end up paying rrp or current market price for the handset on top of monthly fee for the tariff.

Which markets is Apple driving with outstanding design and integration vs price?
If you are referring to iPhones, the only countries with any significant iPhone marketshare are all subsidy markets, which completely contradicts your statement. In countries where the iPhone and flag ship Android phones are similarly priced Apple has next to nil marketshare (save for China. It is the one country that defies this phenomina).

If you are referring to iPads, the only sales we have seen in the last 2 years have been declining, with lower priced Mini's outselling higher priced Air's. Price and competition from competing Android tablets has demolished Apple's early lead in the tablet market.

If you are referring to Macs, Apple has never been a market leader to drive anything. They did influence the wedge style for the ultra-portable laptop though.

If you are referring to Apple TV, accessories or any other product Apple makes, including software, they have never been in a position to drive the industry forward. In fact, they usually wait to add tech based on what the industry is shown as being popular.

Lastly, we have the Apple Watch. While a few million Apple users will buy this product (simply because they have no other alternative available to them), time will tell if the watch has any influence on the market as a whole. But based off sales data (after the first hour of pre-orders), sales are looking pretty pathetic. Will have to wait and see if sales pick up, once people can buy one in an Apple Store or a Best Buy.

P.S. Don't forget, Apple is really just a one product company. The iPhone accounts for over 70% of all Apple's profits.

But sales of the Apple watch so far have still outsold all android wear/galaxy gear watch sales to date.

No one knows how many Apple Watches have sold, or how many Moto360's have sold, because that info is not available.

You could be right, or you could be wrong. Hell, Moto 360 could have sold over 2 million units in just the last 2 months with the specials they have been having.

Why leave out Pebble? Because it's well over a million by now? Plus bear in mind that Android Wear only started middle of 2014, and didn't really get hot until the Moto 360 and LG R came out in September.

In any case, okay, let's just do Wear and Gear to date:

1.2 million ... Android watches sold in 2013 (probably most Samsung Gear)
+
2.0 million ... Samsung Gear watches sold in 2014
0.7 million ... Android Wear watches sold in the last part of 2014
========================
3.9 million ... total for 2013-14

Without even accelerating sales (which are expected to double each year), we can lowball add another 1.4 million sold through the end of May 2015.

So, at least 5.0 - 5.3 million Gear and Wear sold to date. Could easily be more like 6 - 8 million in reality.

Yes, it took a couple of years, but the market has been doubling each year. That's why Apple decided to jump in.

This is not meant in any way to negate Apple's success. It's just to keep some comparisons realistic.

According to Tim Apple started with this effort 4 years ago, not quite jumping in.

I'm sure the other smartwatch makers started before they released their phones too.....see how that all evens out?

Exactly, this is a three to four year effort. Apple typically takes a little longer to get things to market to make sure it fits their vision.

Tim is telling a porkie. I have an apple watch myself but this was nothing more than a me too device.

You think it's a "me 2" device and Tim is lying?

I just ordered one and can't wait to get it.

The Apple watch was very clearly an idea that Apple came up with long before Android wear was ever conceived. Samsung found out Apple was making a watch and decided they would beat them to market with a slapped together poor excuse for a smartwatch in the Galaxy Gear.

Just look at the fit and polish on the apple watch vs the android wear junk. Its polished metal vs plastic. Android didn't even bother to think of an interface, they just stuck a touch screen and a button like it's a phone taped to your wrist.

PS I have the 38mm SS

Of course! We all know Apple thought of every great product and feature first! I mean geesh! Doesn't everyone already know that? /s

Have you even seen the Urbane? The Moto 360? The actual Wear interface?

I'll be honest. If Tim Cook called me, personally, I'd definitely save up and buy an Apple Watch within a month. I don't even use an iPhone at this point, and I'd probably buy one.

I bought my kid the lg g watch r. Cool watch.

I looked at the price. The cheapest Apple Watch is 100$ more than the LG Watch R, so that's hardly a good comparison when it comes to build quality. And I don't see how Wear is just "a touch screen and a button" any more than Apple Watch is just "a touch screen and a digital crown on the side". Seriously, Google made an interface for Wear. Whether it's good or not is up for debate, just like the Apple Watch.

If Cook called me, id tell him to loosen things up and give the people choices and then maybe ill think about getting an iPhone. Just a call wont get anything from me. Results will.

I'd ask for a refund on my 6+ on the grounds that it isn't fit for purpose. I'd tell him that the two generations older iPhone 5 multitasked better, was smoother, had no lag, never froze up and apps rarely crashed. I'm sure Tim would think nothing of refunding me, being the head honcho and all that. It would be great to hear from him.#
