I just got mine today. So far I love the look but I agree with a couple points people have made. It's a pain to take off, the sleep/wake button is tough to press, and I wish it were just a bit more rubbery so that it prevented sliding on hard surfaces. Pros include the size and the fact that it really does feel like it would protect the phone. Like others have said, it's free so what the heck.

Mine came as well. I hope Speck is listening to this thread. I'd like to add my hat into the growing chorus of people disenchanted with the quality. Mine is hard to press on top, the fit is a tad loose and the sides still have a small lip of flash on the side, where the seems meet. If it wasn't free I would be mighty, mighty pissed.

Apparently, Speck thinks they are Steve Jobs now. I sent a lengthy email describing the issues with the new case and mentioned all the complaints here on MacRumors. All I got back was:

Material has not changed.

Well...I guess it just coincidentally got all sh**ty feeling at the exact same time as the redesign (they definitely changed the camera hole design), because it's nothing like the TPU material they were using earlier on. It's almost like a hard plastic.

I just received my Speck Pixelskin HD and I too am somewhat disappointed. Till now I've been using a $3 cheap-o rubbery case, which actually strikes a nice balance between grippiness on surfaces and smoothness for getting the phone in and out of pockets, but doesn't offer to solid tight fit I'm looking for. It's a very similar style to the Pixelskin HD, just a little flimsier.

But back to the Speck. The seam (or "parting line" in manufacturing speak) around the border is very pronounced and rather ugly. The sleep and volume buttons are indeed hard to press and there is not a comforting feeling of feedback when you press them. The fit is quite good but there is a very small amount of play in the middle section of the left and right sides of the phone. The finish is quite smooth and there's very little grippiness on tables or desks. It feels solid enough that it would offer good protection from bumps and some types of drops.

I'll give it a couple days to see if I warm to it, but I'll probably go back to my cheap-o $3 case.

AGREED.

i just received my pixelskin hd case today and as soon as i took it out of the box i didn't like it at all. the part lines are horrific and you can see the injection gate on the right side. they could've done a much better job. it's not as 'slim' as i thought it was going to be, and it's much harder than i expected. sure, it may be better in terms of accessory compliance than say, a bumper, but it's just not what i expected. i selected it because of all the buzz about the case and rave reviews (such as this thread) and i gotta tell you, it's exactly just that. buzz. disappointment.

and yes, i was under the impression that they changed the material as well. as you all may know the 3g/3gs pixelskin cases were TPR. i believe this new one is still injection-molded TPR but i think they tweaked the durometer of the material so that they can release it from the mold faster than a more pliable part that is more prone to post-mold shrinking. they had to crank a **** load of these out because so many people wanted them in such a short time. makes sense to me.

sorry to be a party pooper, fans, but i think i am going to exchange this for an incase snap case.

Can anyone confirm that this is jus the free version, because I bought mine awhile ago, and that case is the bees knees. If there is a different version for the piad one, then great, but if this revised one is here to stay then I need to pick up a backup PS HD case asap in case my current one ever breaks.

The new revision is WAY too hard and the home button is too tough to press. went back to my OtterBox Defender in less than 12 hours >.<

I think this effects the Geometric too. I just tried one at a mall kiosk. They had just gotten their shipment today and it was terrible. I didn't like my original Geometric as compared to the wallyworld Incipio but the new version was absolutely terrible. It bubbled my SGP Oleo. The sleep button had no feel and the case pressed it in when I installed so that the phone went to power off. The volume buttons would not line up and bulged. I would like to get an old version of the PS HD. Where can I find one locally in Atlanta? I tried Microcenter, Fry's and Best Buy.

Got mine today... the lock button does suck to use, but honestly I don't use it THAT often....

Apart from that (which appears fixable with the exacto knife) the case seems just fine to me... I like the fact it's a very snug fit. I see no reason to be taking it on/off all the time...it's there to protect the phone, which it can't do off.

The volume buttons don't offer much in the way of feedback but I have no trouble pressing them, and 99% of the time I either leave it on the same setting or I mute it entirely, and the clearance to use the mute button is just fine.

As to the feel... I didn't feel the "old" case so I can't really compare... it is a touch less grippy than the 99-cents-including-shipping-from-hong-kong ebay silicone case it replaces, but at no point have I felt like it's going to go flying out of my hands either... and I happily used a polycarbonate case on my 3G so this is "softer" than that anyway :)

On the plus side is feels like it offers a lot more impact protection than that cheap/thin silicone case did, and the snug fit is a huge plus in that sense compared to the hong kong silicone one

Most of the cases available for free sucked worse (no back protection, or no top/bottom protection)... and if this version trades "tougher to use lock button" for the "a little loose on the sides/bottom" issue that was the only complaint I saw on the "old" version, I'm ok with that trade.

(as to the side seams, they're way way way less obvious than on that 99 cent silicone case... but again, don't really care... generally the phone is either in my pocket where I don't see them, in my hand against the side of my face where I don't see them, or in my hands for apps/games where, again, I don't see them because I'm looking at the phone not the case.)

About the only thing that would've made me happier besides an easier lock button is if it had a non-adhesive screen protector like my 3G Griffin Wave did, but nobody seems to offer a case like that for the iPhone 4 other than the insanely over-large otterbox defender.

Hopefully the exacto knife fixes the button issue... can't do much on the front screen issue I guess :(

I don't have my free case yet, but reading the posts I'm not sure I want the new version? I do wonder if Apple approved the change? Has anyone went to Apple about this?

The perfect case would be the new harder Pixelskin HD, but with the old softer TPU in the areas around the volume and lock buttons.

Maybe they'll make a revision 3? :D

I just lost the war with my ZAGG IS and the Pixel HD. It started to bubble at every edge. Sucks, It was doing so well for the past month and a half. The case is so damn sharp where it meets the screen that it digs into the shield and pulls it. Anyone having any luck with another screen protector?

This is what they wrote back to me:

Thanks for contacting Speck!

The oval cut out for the camera is our new design. Also the buttons are normally made stiff, kind of like a new pair of shoes, you have to wear it in a little! However, we offer a one year warranty so if it doesn’t stretch and is becoming a problem we will replace it for you.

I'm going to walmart and getting the incipio ngp translucent mercury.

Recieved my case today.... New version, Worst case ive ever used.

I have gone back to my £0.69p silicone case. Will be selling the pixelskin and buying a iskin revo or green bumper.

Wow you guys are great at over reacting.

I got my case today and it fits great, feels great, and looks great. Sure the buttons are hard to press but you get used to not needed to "click" them.

I mean, I don't know what the previous version felt and looked like but I'm 100% happy with this case.

I have the original one and love it. Have a ver2 on the way. Can't wait to compare them side by side. (And while I wait, am perfectly happy with Incipio NGP Matte $20 from Wally World.)

Well, I guess you don't have any room to talk then, do you?

Same exact situation here. The last straw was when I went to plug it in in the car and my wire wouldn't fit the hole for the headphone jack. I guess I'm sticking with the Otterbox.

Wow ... it must really suck to force you back to the phone-in-a-box.

Speck's director of design development told me they are looking into this with their factories (they had to bring in additional suppliers for the demand) and will respond shortly.
