Not to mention it's a FREE case and people are comparing it to a version they didn't have in the first place.

I suggest you read back over the thread. Free does not mean it has to be crap. Ever had someone take you out for dinner and barf in your meal? Hey, it was free, right? So what right do you have to complain.

Except that it's not crap. It's a fully functional case, that has a tricky button to press. It's like a friend taking me out to a Mexican buffet but in reality it's Taco Bell. Not what I expected, but hey, it's free.

Way to blow it out of proportions.

I'm sorry, but no, you're simply wrong. And I'm just not going to bother replying. If you have nothing useful to contribute, don't bother replying, please.

How am I wrong? If I was simply wrong it'd be easy to prove it so. However, I am right, and thus you are taking the easy way out, which is acceptable I guess if you're unhappy, but does not make me wrong.

I still can't wait to use my PixelSkin HD, even if the button is hard to press.

The point is people chose that case over the other options in the case program because of what they saw in the reviews, yet they received something different. That's what's frustrating...

It's not that bad, but it went from a great case to a below average one.

I never denied it wasn't frustrating, and it most certainly is. However there is a difference between a crappy case and a good case, and the revised PixelSkin HD still seems to be a good case.

This. I just called Apple too and they will not exchange cases at this point. The cutoff date for switches was august 24th.

Still waiting for a response from Erik from Speck..

Do you think that everyone getting the Pixelskin HD is getting it for free? Many still actually purchase Speck products off their website and they're getting the same revised case.

Well, it could definitely be better...

I just received mine (made in China). I wouldn't say it's a crap case, but it does highlight how nice the buttons are on the Apple Bumper. It's frankly very hard to see how this is a $30 product. I use an Otterbox Defender virtually all of the time, and was looking for something when I needed less protection (and wanted to be able to put the phone in my pocket). I don't think this is the solution. Oh well.

Of course not. But that's not what's being discussed. You know what you're getting into when you buy the revised version, it's not Speck's fault.

You know if you've been keeping up with this thread. Most people out there getting it aren't. Many people also picked this case based on great early reviews and are now stuck with a case that is no longer what they would consider the best. Speck claims there were no changes in it and are coming off as being surprised that the quality of their case has gone down in this new revision and are looking into it. I doubt they'd be looking into it if they weren't concerned like other people seem to be. But I don't know why you expect to please anyone in here with your defense of the case or why you even care that people don't like the change in the case unless you were the one selling it.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

I just got the "updated" case today free from Apple. But I can't help but think people that bought the case in a retail shop actually received the updated case and those of us who got this crappy rigid case are owners of the beta version.

I wouldn't agree, only because the version 2 case has a wider cutout for the camera's LED flash after the "whiteout" pictures issue came out. But that wasn't Speck specific; that issue affected a majority of iPhone 4 cases across several manufacturers.

I purchased this case on Amazon two weeks ago after the rave reviews, thank god I received the version 1 design.

There are a few new video reviews of the version 2 case on youtube, and comparing it with my version 1 you can definitely see a difference, mostly with the volume and sleep/wake buttons (they look like the buttons stick out a little more than the original design).

I didn't understand why so many version 2 case users were so upset, but now I get it. If I had chosen this as my free case after great reviews and then received an inferior redesign, I'd be pissed too.

Yes, it's still a free case while I paid $20 for mine, but I'd rather pay $20 for a really good case rather than use my Apple "freebie" for a case that will just sit unused in a drawer somewhere.

Everyone keeps saying it's free. Perhaps it's free to the user, but Speck worked out some kind of deal with Apple, so trust me, they're getting paid for this. And due to the good reviews it got, it appears to be the most popular case in the program, thus, they got A LOT of "sales", thus money, for it.

So they're profiting off a case that isn't what we all were led to believe it was going to be. That simply doesn't sit well with me.

Speck can do whatever they want wit their cases, really. They can change them how they like. personally I think my Rev2 Pixelskin is great, it does the job really well and gives me the best of both words: firm, solid protection with a rubbery texture.

I just received my case as well. It's really stiff. I never owned a Pixelskin HD, but I did notice that now it says "Made in China". My two Candyshells were Made in Taiwan. So definitely they are making these cases elsewhere. I'm worried that my replacement Candyshell will also be Made in China and with lesser quality as well. :(

My 'rev 1' is made in china also
How can you say oh well this other case by a different company is made in taiwan, therefore all cases must be made in taiwan?

I don't know about you guys but I fell in love with this case (first rev - made in China also). I tried many well known TPU cases, including iSkin Solo and Incipio NGP, but this one wins hands down. Too bad if Speck switched to cheaper design / material.

I think you guys are really blowing this out of proportion.

Cool story, bro. Whether or not we are, if you have nothing constructive to say in here then please move on to another topic. If we want to discuss something that we find a problem, then we have every right to. I'd put my last dollar on you flaming me to bits now, but it had to be said.

I'm a bit confused now, not sure which version I have, but either way its not very good...

The cut out is oval and the power/sleep button is very hard to press and unresponsive, the first version apparently have a sleep button that was fine and the cut out was pear/keyhole shaped.

However, mine is not hard plastic as reported on here, far from it. I would say somewhere between hard plastic and silicone. Quite a bit of play and not very hard to get on and off, which has also been reported. Actually I quite like it, it is the material I was expecting having seen reviews of the mk1, i believe this is TPU (maybe a lower quality blend, not sure). I have no issue with the material per-say.

BUT... The biggest issue is that this case will not work with a screen protector, absolutely no way. It's very badly designed in this respect. It's a shame because the design on the iPhone 4 lends well to case designers (cases can attach/snap onto the antenna band) it's pretty easy to have a lip above the screen (so it can safely lie on its front/screen side) yet not interfere with the screen protector. Lazy thoughtless design from Speck, some companies have shown it possible to have a case that does not even touch the screen and some that actually help hold the screen protector down. It's not freaking rocket science FFS.

It also looks really cheap and ugly on the side too where there materiel was injected into the mould, with a bit left sticking out. Looks unfinished. I agree with people who have said this is like $5 Chinese case (in fact i have seen better Chinese cases for less than $5 off eBay, i believe how good my friends is and i think it was $3).

Overall, The HD is a poorly designed case (at least the version i have is). It's obvious that Speck lowered standards to milk their deal with Apple. Certainly not worth retail price, and still useless when free.

Look like it's just going to have to an Incipio Feather for me now. At least I can use a screen protector with it. (Feather + Screen film) > (HD - Screen film). That said, the new SGP Neo Hybrid is looking very good and that may well be my 'forever' case if its as good as it looks. I'm don't know about anyone else, but i am totally sick of trying to find a decent case with no significant flaws, i just want bloody case thats decent... life is too short for all this fuss over a piece of plastic! The original HD seemed to be that case, but this one certainly isn't.

hmmm...I just got my shipping notice from Apple about this case. Well, I'm pretty happy with my iskin solo right now so if this speck revision does suck, maybe I'll just sell it on ebay...along with the belkin grip vue :p
