RE: the stiff sleep/wake button. Anyone given the button hell?.....repeatedly work the button beyond it's normal range of motion when off the phone? Does that loosen it up any any?

I have the original version, and the new version on the way. I'm not so excited any more.

Rubbish !

Got mine this morning, not what I expected at all, don't like the plastic has no grip, haven't bothered putting it on the phone but I would guess by the feel of the buttons there would be no give so no feed back/click when pressing. Shame really :( I'll stick with my Quality Black Apple Bumper + Carbon Back :)

Just got this from Speck about the hard to press sleep/wake button:

No Problem! We offer a one year warranty on all our products. Just email me a picture of the defect, the product code (located on the inside of the case), a copy of your receipt (or proof that it was a part of the Apple Replacement Program) and you’re shipping address. We will email you when your product is shipped, please allow 2-3 weeks (which is subject to change), as we are working hard to get your replacement out to you!

Kind Regards,

That just sounds like they'll send you a replacement Revision 2 case.

Thanks for contacting Speck!

We had a bad batch come out of one of our factories. But my Production Manager is oversees and has notified us of the problem and has put a stop to it. One of our machines was producing material that was making it hard to press the buttons on just our PixelSkin HD’s. However, we are in the process of replacing those that are defective and the problem will not proceed.

I'll believe it when I see it. This is NOT a "bad batch." This is clearly a change of manufacturing/materials.

I just got a reply from Speck CS (the same Janelle) and it was the same copy past reply about receiving a replacement. Have sent another email restating what I actually said about not being a specific defect, but just a poorer quality product.

Hopefully it is a bad batch (albeit a rather big one if there's this many people complaining about it) and we can get the best of both worlds, oval flash cut out and decent quality case

just to let you guys know, i wrote speck saying that i was not happy about the free case i would be getting at the end of the month. i mentioned a number of points and i was very polite about the issue. i didn't ask for anything, i just wanted to voice my displeasure. yes, i know, i'm emailing a company BEFORE i even received my case, lol.

janelle was great and actually shipped me out an older version of the case for free yesterday. i made it clear that i would send her my case when i got it if there was a problem and she insisted that she didn't care and wanted to send me a free older version asap. now THAT'S customer service for you. i've never heard of anything like that before, lol.

Yeah Janelle aslo said that she'd send me an older version as well. Great customer support, really prompt replies too.

My opinion of Speck has just turned a complete 180

+1. but i haven't gotten it yet, so we'll see, lol.

i was thinking of trying to switch my other case coming from apple to something else, so essentially i'd get 2 free cases, but seeing as how nice speck's being about this, i've decided to just wait and get the pixelskin hd from apple and either send it back to speck or put it up for sale (most likely the latter, lol).

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

It's not like Speck owns the factories.

Like most manufacturers anymore they take bids from factories in Asia to produce a specific product.

Likely their "normal" factory didn't have the capacity to turn out a whole ton of extra cases in short order to fill the Apple Free Case orders so they bid it out to another factory.

THAT factory likely produced the sub-par button cases in a hurry.

From the sounds of it they have stopped the manufacturing problem and intend to make it right for the customer though, and send everyone a non-crap case for free without even asking for the bad one back...which to me is excellent customer service and you really can't ask for much more.

O, what fools these WilliamG's be.

They stopped the "bad batch".

Speck has the best Cust service I have ever experienced

Because you would know

pretty sure he hit the nail right on the head. if they were in fact trying to cut costs buy producing a revised case, then they likely would not be sending out free cases to anyone who complains without even asking for proof. it goes to show the kind of things the company believes in... customer satisfaction.

it's hard to keep an eye on things happening in china you know, lol. how many cases have we heard about recalled products coming from factories in that area this year? sometimes you just never know what you're going to get over there.

the bottom line is speck is not just ignoring the issue.

Does anyone else notice the irony in talking about "bad batches" and "revised versions" for a case that was initially meant to be a solution to the iPhone antenna problem (which was initially argued by some to due to a "bad batch" of iPhone 4s itself).

The discussions in this thread are eerily uncanny to those that popped up during the frenzy that was the iPhone 4 launch.

The difference being Speck didn't just tell us to "not press it that way" or something ;)

I was going to say, if Apple had acted the way Speck has, maybe the antenna issue might not have blown out to be as big as it is.

Maybe it might not have even gotten to the point of having the Case Program in the first place!

At first I did not like the feel of the volume and power buttons but after using the Incipio NGP and Apple Bumper I can appreciate the look and feel of the Speck Pixel Skin HD.

The new version is solid, I can toss my phone around without having to worry about it breaking. It's tough! The old camera cut out did not affect the flash but I like the new camera hole, it just looks better!

Give it another shot if you have one. Don't feel like pushing the power button to lock it, use auto lock set to 1 minute. I had the old version on all day yesterday and it just feels flimsy compared to this one!

Just received my case today and it's the revised version with oval camera hole which is made in China. The material is still soft and all buttons are easy to press with good feedback. Pretty happy with the case.

This makes me believe about the bad batch theory :)

Got mine today too and it is fine. Power and volume buttons are responsive and I have no problems at all with them. The material is a bit on the hard side but I rather have a tighter fit than soft and loose.

Been speaking with Erik from Speck. My "revision 1" is supposedly on it's way. I have an order/shipping number but I can't check my order status on their site. Like someone said... "Ill believe it when I get it."

On another note... They are really owning up to this one. I have been a Speck customer since my first Candyshell and I will continue being one for as long as I own iPhones.
