After waiting 3+ years the hardware is somewhat disappointing. Going back to flat sides not exactly exciting
Better camera was already anticipated
But this year we’ll have to cut Apple some slack. Truth is we’re lucky to get new iPhones with the pandemic going on

This upgrade was even MORE than I was expecting. The A14 processor is a beast, and the camera upgrade is far more impressive than I was expecting. And I LOVE the old-style flat edges. I've always detested the slippery round edges of the last several generations of iPhones. Add the iPhone 12 Mini in the mix and I'd say Apple nailed it.

My smartphone and tablet needs have dwindled quite a bit lately, maybe the 'rona or maybe me detoxing from the 'connected life' more and more as recent, but all my smartphones do (be it the S Relay, or SIII, etc) are doing is texting my girlfriend and playing music while at work. That's pretty much been it all year. No phone calls much, no web surfing.

Tablets are large podcast players and Youtube video watchers lately. One 7" is acting like a Kindle. Most of my screen time has been watching TV, mostly good classic shows.

Upgrades are the least of my concern going forward given what little I've been doing with tech.

This☝🏿.You need a partner and stop caring about a damn phone. We are humans and we’re not meant be fond of non- living things.
I think you misunderstood the post you're "agreeing with". She's saying her phone payments are relatively trivial, as others spend more on going out. Which is true; I know plenty of people who pre covid would spend 100£ on a night out.

"What other folks spend going out to eat and a movie once a week.”
☝🏿I agree on this.

I’m not expecting or asking you to want what I or anyone else wants. We’re all entitled to our opinions. It has nothing to do with being a “fan boy“ or girl. If buying a new phone, car, shoes, home or anything else doesn’t interest you, then no one is asking you to do so. Do what works for you. There’s no reason for you to insult someone because they want to own something that you see no value in.

So there are some new iPhones out. Who cares, really? I don't know whether it's the year (pandemic). Perhaps this year has made me realize that phones aren't a very important thing in life, especially when the phone I have is more than sufficient. Spend another $1,000 on something that really doesn't matter, adds no meaning to life, will be a temporary "wow" and nothing more? Nah.

Am I alone? These new phones don't excite me. Beyond that, they're downright boring. There are just more important things to lust after--like normalcy.
Agree it not exciting anymore. Blah I guess let’s look on the bright side you save 1000. I’m debating getting this model m

Thrill was gone for me after the iPhone 4. Left in 2012 and haven't been convinced to switch back. I've spent plenty of time playing with the phones through the years from family and friends so I know what I'm missing. I don't need iMessage and don't want iCloud. I don't want Apple's subscriptions either. Apps are good but form factor innovation is lacking. Z Fold 2 is the biggest revolution in smartphone design since the original iPhone, there I said it.

When I die, I know I will miss the future technology. Oh, and the family also.

If your credit is bad you get rejected. If your credit is bad carriers will want upwards of a 50% down payment. So no not everyone can get monthly payments for iPhones. Most people cannot afford high end smartphones which is why low and mid tier phones reign supremes sales wise. It’s a privilege to buy any smartphone 700+ since most people really can’t afford to buy one outright. Heck most Americans nor most people in 1st/2nd world countries can afford a 600.00 emergency expense.
I got approved for Apple Credit card with $5000 limit today. So excited!!

I was a little more excited back in the day when you could get a new iPhone every year for a couple hundred bucks. I’m perfectly happy with a two year cycle now given the cost.

You must be a youngin' sort of person. This is what always happens when technology matures. That being said, the only iPhone I bought because "wow!" was my first, an iPhone 3G. It was a game changer. It was the first cell phone I could remember to take with me when going out because it was so much more than a phone. Since then, except for the year the 4s came out, it has been "pass the old one down to a kid and buy a new one" every two years. Now that the kids are soooo close to all being out and on their own (just the youngest left, I can taste the freedom!), not sure what to do with the old one this year. I've had an 8 for 3 years because I just didn't feel like I wanted to upgrade and lose my beloved TouchID. I will probably keep the one I buy this year until it either dies or some new fun tech I want to play with comes out (or they put TouchID back on a phone).

Not to worry, I'm sure there will be some new bling thing to come out that will take the place of the "gotta have a new one every year" iPhone.

It often happens with tire kickers. They're interested in looking at the car, but when it comes down to forking out real money, they back out. Not everyone can afford it.

Could it be that people are genuinely scared now? Scared because companies are closing left and right putting workers out on the street? Could it be Covid disease scaring people because many refuse to wear masks and spread the disease even farther?

I am not that thrilled about the 12 either, to be honest, so I am not going to buy one. But probably will.
I wasn’t going to either. I am with Verizon. And I noticed that if I trade in my phone. The new 12 pro I am interested in will only cost like twenty something dollars a month to finance. With their extra credits for trade in. So I am tempted. Plus I would like to have the 5g. Even if it isn’t the ultra band.

If I was to buy a new phone, it will be an Android phone as they are much more advanced.

Besides, the camera on my iPhone 11 Pro Max is good enough. And I doubt Michael Bay will shoot a hollywood movie on an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

What you are getting with the iPhone 12 Pro Max over the iPhone 11 Pro Max, is so minimal, that I just get an Android phone with features that the iPhone 69 Pro Mega Max doesn't even have by that time.
