Sounds like the bottom line is that if you're "upgrading" from your plus model you're still actually downsizing. This was my impression all along and why I decided just to go from the 6 Plus to the 8 Plus, prior to that I was going to wait it out.
BTW kudos to this woman's explanation, just excellent.
Apple is really going to learn a hard lesson if what I think is going to happen.
Sure there are going to be people like you that suck it up and "slug it out", but a lot of people don't shell out over a grand to compromise. We will see.

top one would be the Plus model. What's the top one?

It’s pretty clear the X is the new flagship phone. 8 folks don’t want to admit it, will throw up all kinds of arguments against it, but the new technology is in the X
the images are to scale..What's the top one?
top one would be the Plus model.
It really just depends on the aspect ratio of the movie though, that is what Flat Five is pointing out.Okay thanks. I don't watch much video on my iPhone (iPad for that), but it is good to know that you get more of the video on the X than the Plus currently. I wouldn't have expected that.

or you don't watch them on phonesIf you care about movies, you don't zoom in the first place.
well, it is..Why is the Plus image cropped? I have Pulp fiction on my phokd phone now and it doesn’t look zoomed and cropped.
Flat five, the actual view of pulp fiction ratio on a plus would be widescreen and not cropped 16:9 like you put. The difference from the X will be black bars on top and bottom, unlike the full screen shown on the X. The advantage of the Plus is only in native 16:9 ratio movies (most series, YT).the images are to scale..
the top one is a iPhone Plus.. bottom is iPhone X

i know.. that was the original example i posted in #299..
then someone asked for full frame comparison (at least, i think that's what was meant by the Ff post)
then the page flipped so the top of this page is only showing the full screen view.. go to previous page to see the native ratios on the two phones..
yeah.. i think Avatar was shot 16:9..Oh. Oops. Sorry i missed that.
But i think most plus video viewers will probably watch YT or other series on 16:9 ratio. So this is more problematic on the X.
Can you simulate how much a native 16:9 source would be cropped on the X? I wonder.

@roeiz
here's Avatar on the Plus (top) and X (bottom)..
the Plus shows the movie exactly as shot.. no image loss on the top/bottom nor sides..
the X crops off the top and bottom

[doublepost=1507739253][/doublepost]if you want to watch the movie, without cropping, the comparison looks like :

(well, i think i'm showing it a little off-center on the X but.. same thing.. just a little more symmetry on the letter boxing)
The advantage of the Plus is only in native 16:9 ratio movies (most series, YT). In widescreen movies like pulp fiction or Wonderwoman the X screen is preferable.
But 16:9 footage will suffer severe crop when zoomed in on the X.
how do you mean?I never watch widescreen movies,
Is the pic on the top of the Plus?hmm. that is not true.
even if you stop a typical movie at the notch, it will still be larger on the X :

likewise, if you keep a margin on the right to match the notch margin, it will still be larger on the X
yeah.. i think Avatar was shot 16:9..
i'll do the comparison a little later.
but it will likely be opposite of what happens with Pulp Fiction on these two phones..
to me Pulp Fiction is better on the X.. i assume Avatar will be better on the 8+
