I have a 6S with Verizon - completely paid off. Ultimately I hope to trade in that phone to get a credit from Verizon that will eventually be applied to my monthly statements. I was told (by a Verizon rep) that I should purchase the iPhone X first and worry about trading in my 6S later. I'm not interested in the trade-in promo Verizon is offering for the iPhone X (too many conditions). I plan on using the Verizon app or website (not apple's site) to purchase. My question is - can I proceed with immediately purchasing the iPhone X, or do I (should I?) click on "upgrade now" and go thru that process. I don't want to change my plan, etc, etc. I feel if I go thru the "upgrade now" it will take longer than if I just go directly to purchasing the phone and worry about what to do with my old device later. Thanks!

I had some questions about this and chatted online with an Apple rep last night. They had me do a test run with an iPhone 8 and everything came up fine. It recognized my number and said I was eligible for the VZ Device Payment Plan. That said, my 6S is completely paid off...

What test and how do you do it?

Yeah I don’t even think you can do down payments anymore. From what I can tell on their device payment FAQ page, the only payment you can make on the device besides the monthly payment is to pay it off 100%, except for this case: “For customers on device payment agreements prior to 5/31/15, you may make the required payment to complete your upgrade.”

Talked to a rep today. He said you could call Verizon 30 days after you upgrade and put a down payment if you wish. You just can’t do it during the upgrade process on the app. I think I will definitely take advantage of that.

I just tried that, and I am eligible, but the Apple Store app says "You are eligible for a Verizon Device Payment upgrade with trade-in. However, we do not support Verizon trade-ins on the Apple Online Store."

So I guess since mine's not paid off, I have to go through Verizon to do the trade-in to get the Verizon Device Upgrade.

Yes correct.

I pretended I was ordering an iPhone 8, selected the VZ Device Payment Program, filled in my account info (I did this on my iPad) and waited for the response. Once I found out I was eligible, I canceled the order.

My guess is that had I done this on the iPhone, the approval would’ve been even quicker using the “replace this phone” option. I’m trying that later this evening.

Alright I'm late to the party and really don't feel like sifting through 56 pages of forum posts...

What's the verdict on ordering via the Apple Store App vs. Verizon App/Website?

I've seen lots on reddit saying Apple won't complete orders on Verizon's upgrade program when you test it with an 8 on the Apple Store app - your only option is to buy at full price.

Obviously I'd rather order through the Apple Store app since its usually the most reliable at peak traffic, but I'll have the Verizon app and website open as backups I suppose.

Upgrading from a JB 7+ to a 256 SG X.

edit: 56* pages.
edit 2: So I am seeing above that if your device is not paid off yet and plan on returning it, you have to go through the Verizon app/website. Joy. I have about $200 left on my 7+ to get to 50% paid off, so it looks like that will be what I have to do.

I wanted to find a way to be able to buy through the Apple Store, *and* I have always wanted my Mom and Dad to have a nice iPhone, so I managed to convince her to buy mine (pay half, half is an Xmas gift from me), so I could justify either starting a new Device Payment plan for Verizon through the Apple Store or just paying for it in full.

Good luck Friday morning stanman64!

I’m switching 3 lines on a family plan from ATT to Verizon when ordering the iPhone X. I saw if you order through Apple you have to have an active Verizon account to pre-order, which I don’t have. Does this mean I have to do the family plans switch/iPhone pre order through Verizon? I’m just worried that it will take me a little bit to set up the family plan switch on Verizon since it’s for three lines and also you can’t set up the preorder through Verizon since it won’t let you select the iPhone x as a favorite or option as a pre checkout like the App Store does..also I would rather pre order through the App Store since that seems to be the bets option. Am I **** outta luck and have to do it thru Verizon?

If I preorder it on this friday, am I able to get it on next friday or start to wait at Apple store?
The first ones will be delivered next Friday. They will also be available in Apple stores next Friday. You will have to be very early and a bit lucky to score one on launch day via preorder, and I’d imagine you’d need to get to a Store very early to get one there.

Ok guys so I am on the payment plan and have to order through Verizon as we can’t through Apple. What’s he best way? I called last year and did ok. Is the app or website a faster/better way?

Thanks

Yes you can apple allows Verizon Device Payments via apple.com or the Apple Store app.

Well the wife’s phone isn’t paid off and we’ve paid 75% of it off. When I did a test run in an iPhone 8 it said I’d have to pay the remaining balance.

The site and Apple app states “Apple does not support Verizon trade ins”.

I’ll go through verizon that’s fine

Did anyone find out when the iPhone X Upgrade Express Upgrade will open up on the Verizon app ?

It’s already implemented and has been addressed numerous times it just skips a few steps when using app upon check out

Alright everything is set. iPhone X 256 GB on Verizon device payment upgrading in Verizon app paying with debit card.

Now, let’s rehearse...

Hey everyone!
Apologies if this has been asked before, but want to make sure I am good to go before tomorrow.
Planning to order the X and pay through the device payment program, My 7 Plus is paid in full, and there I'm not getting any warning of a remaining balance or anything. My only concern is possibly being slowed down by the device payment program. Does it require any additional information besides the usual stuff? (Billing zip, social, account pin, etc) Is it something you need to enroll in? The fine print on Apple's site says that there's some kind of credit check involved, but I'm hoping they don't do that during the pre order process. Any one have insight from the 8 pre order?

Thanks everyone! Looking forward to tomorrow!
