Thanks for those comparisons :)

So the S6 is better (it does have prob best camera on any android smartphone) - but the OnePlus 2 definitely seems to be a decent improvement over the original OnePlus 1.
Yep it's certainly better than the OPO as we would expect. Hopefully they have their guys working on the software side as the OV sensor is technically very good.
Maybe the OnePlus 3 will actually be a flagship killer...
Heh I can understand this. If they portray it as the Flagship killer then they should be prepared for a showdown with the best and take critique as well as plaudits.
The tree and purple flower look better on the op2
Yeah it can definitely produce some very nice shots that are at times better than the competition. It was just a point and shoot comparison with the S6 doing well a bit more often but I think most buyers would be quite satisfied with these and other shots I took on their own merit.

If OnePlus can improve the focus speed, allow for less compression, and throw in Pro Mode (manual ISO for lowlight and shutter speed for fast-moving children, etc) then it'll be an even better proposition.

After almost a week here are my closing thoughts in bullet points:

Design/Build

  • Understated design; weighty, premium feel.
  • Slider a great addition.
  • Like StyleSwap covers for customisation and ability to change if scratched.
  • Black Apricot and Bamboo covers feel great compared to Sandstone plastic.

Fingerprint/Home button
  • Odd feel (doesn't move/press).
  • 80-90% success rate.

Screen
  • 1080p fine at this size.
  • Gets really dark for IPS but not the brightest outdoors.

Performance
  • Buttery smooth mostly.
  • Changing dual SIM settings can cause temporary lag.
  • No overheating concerns.
  • GB 1,184 / 4,562. Antutu 55,639.
  • No background refresh issues with 4GB RAM (~2.5GB free).
  • If it's underclocked you don't notice it.

OS
  • Close to stock with useful customisation options.
  • Dark theme great for night time use.
  • Programmable buttons and customisable LED are nice options.

Camera
  • Generally good quality.
  • Occasional focus issues.
  • Not the fastest to shoot unlike S6.
  • Slow to process HDR shots.
  • Rally basic software - needs manual mode.
  • Videos are OK but lacking options.

Battery
  • WiFi only and 30% brightness nets 6-7+ hours SOT.
  • Outdoors on 4G and 80%+ brightness nets ~3 hours SOT.
  • About 40-50% longer than S6 in similar use cases.
  • Charges in just over two hours.

Misc
  • Really miss fast charging.
  • No NFC a fail for some.
  • USB-C cable a pain compatibility wise.
  • Dual SIM a nice option.
  • Update speed promising (Stagefright already patched and Home button sensitivity improved).
  • Plenty of promised software updates which sounds good but why are they not ready at launch?

Bottom line: good phone, possibly very good, but tradeoffs to meet the price point. The invite system stinks so the Moto X Style should tempt buyers who don't want to wait 3-6 months. Maybe the new Nexus too.

I have a O+O and before I got it I was expecting this miraculous battery life the way people online went on and on about. It might be marginally better than my Moto G. By the time I am down to 15-20% I am on 4 hours SOT. My G would consistently get 4-4.5 hours SOT. Dont get me wrong, anything 3 hours SOT and up is good enough for me but it wasnt near what I expected

PhoneArena say its Battery is worse than the OnePlus One. The Xperia Z3+, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Note 5, Note 4, Droid Turbo and Google Nexus 6 beat it.
www.phonearena.com/news/OnePlus-Two-battery-life-benchmark-score-reveals-worse-performance-than-predecessor-Snapdragon-810-to-blame_id73086
I'd probably get similar if not better results on some of those devices. Really depends on signal strength, brightness, and data connection (as well as what you do) from my findings which is anywhere from 3 hours to 7 hours over a 15 hour day.

For relative performance, is about 40%-50 better in terms of SOT than my S6 in roughly the same conditions.

Weird thing is that test suggests the iPhone 6 Plus is only mediocre whereas I've heard it classed in the battery champ category.

As with all these things if still recommend people try for themselves.

Benchmarking battery is idiotic at max lvl. Look at iP6+ for example, and look at others. Just that hint gives u a nice overview that you really cant benchmark a battery life.

For example, S6/E has terrible battery. Even lousier then my wife iPhone 5 (according to coconut battery only on 78% capacity). S6/E has lousy standby time for example. No one even mentions that. My S6E battery could drain more then 15% over night, but iPhone 5 wouldn't loose more then 1%.

I hate benchmarks. According to benchmarks, my former phone (S6E) was way faster then iPhone 5. But in real life usage, it's quite laggy, wheres iphone 5 is still excellent and snappy. OPO was snappy as it can get as well (cm11s), and OPO is still way behind on benchmarks when compared to samsung flagships.

And every android that received a lollipop upgrade has lost on battery. Lollipop really sux on battery life compared to kit kat. OPO is the best example of that. That's why OP2 can't have better battery then OPO. Maybe Android M will solve this, but too early to tell :)

Why not? My approach was exactly that and if you don't like it, you'll easily get your money back if not more.

I've been sucked in to liking the back covers and ordered the remaining two. Although it's a chunky device, not having the camera stick out means I can go caseless and let the styleswaps take any surface scratches. 'm really careful and don't need any kind of rugged protection.

Looking forward to your thoughts

I have to say, I'm surprised by this. After all of the time you spent trashing the company, they throw you a bone and you just gobble it up.

Lol, yeah like I say my motivation is more that I can quickly review it / check it out and then sell it on to one of my friends on our hangouts group who are waiting for invites.

I would have simply given the invite to one of them however invites are now tied to your email account making it impossible to gift it to them without giving them my full access to my OnePlus account.

Trust me, buying it hasn't changed my opinion on the company or the whole 'invitation' process. It hasn't changed my opinion on the BS hyperbole and rhetoric ...

Indeed it's going to be very hard to look past all that when I review it because for most people it is something they will have to endure in order to buy it.

I only kept my One Plus One for 2 days before selling it on. I was not impressed with the device.

How long will the One Plus 2 stay with me? I'm taking all bets :) :)

Yep. I've already got a small queue of people who have called dibs - so it's just a case that despite my opinion on OnePlus themselves, I get to at least quench my curiosity on the device itself.

Likewise for my review site it will be interesting device because it's hard to get it gives my site something a little different and same reason for picking up the Note 5. Both elusive devices in Europe so will at least add a bit of interest to the site.

There's some logic to my madness.

Updates are looking more regular...

2.0.2 OTA is out with 2.1 in a few weeks.

https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oxygenos-2-0-2-ota-rollout-starting-today.353511

Our first OTA was only a week ago, but we're already back with OxygenOS 2.0.2! The incremental roll-out of our second OnePlus 2 OTA will begin Today. We are listening to all of your concerns on the forums and social media, we're committed to maintaining frequent updates to address your major pain-points without delay.

Since this is an incremental rollout, we appreciate your patience if you don't get an update notification right away.

In OxygenOS 2.0.2, you'll find the following:

Improvements to fingerprint recognition accuracy
Resolves a bug that could cause volume to be muted unexpectedly
Stability improvements to the front facing camera
Camera preview UX improvements

A 2.1 update with more significant improvements is on its way and currently scheduled for mid-September.

My heavy usage battery today with around 90 minutes of GPS/navigation.

Ha! Got an invite today! Have no interest in getting it. Too bad I can't give it away. But invites are tied to email addresses now.

Jesus. This is how flawed the invite system can be manipulated. They need a proper pre-order policy.

My OP2 is still 'pending shipment' after 3 days .... Going to send them a message / support ticket to see what the story is.

Right and I was ready to order it too....as soon as I went to the website though I knew it wasn't right because it took me to the Ali-Express website.

What a ripoff...Aliexpress. You can get a copy of just about anything there. Had a buddy at work pay $200 for Beat Headphones new in box only to find they were knock offs probably from a site like AliExpress

They definitely need to bin the invite system. Just do the same as they do in China: make a certain amount each week and have a flash sale each week to sell said amount. First come, first served.

Sh**y invites are only to control the marketing narrative and purposely limit supply. Absolutely no reason why they couldn't sell it internationally in each territory as they sell it at home.

In device news, the camera has started to annoy me a bit (mentioned briefly in other threads about it). If the 2.1 update doesn't improve the focus speed it may have to go.

Right I was trying to give them a chance, the little chance I did want to give them in the first place. Now I am back to not caring at all about the device anymore.
