I wonder if apple will move the iPhone over to mini LED like the iPad Pro 12.9?
Well they didn't put it in the ipad pro 11" and I'd guess it's more expensive to produce than current LCDs so they don't have any incentive to put them in non flagship iphones. The market thinks it just wants OLED because that's what they been told, so standard LCD may die off.

It's that scratch you may need to itch.

Worst case it doesn't work out, then you'll know and will have exhausted your options. You can then return to the SE 2020 knowing it's the only option.

Best case it works out and your on flagship hardware. Naturally I'm biased because if it works for you then I'll be getting onboard 😁.

That said I'm probably booking in for a new battery for my 7 plus at the end of the week then searching for a brand new 8 Plus.
I thought I received the SE on a Wednesday, but it was actually a Tuesday two weeks ago so today is my last day to generate a return.

Technically I could print a label to give myself another two weeks to decide, but that will cancel my trade-in. While iPhone SE is an upgrade in some ways it is a downgrade in others, and better or worse the size difference is noticeable going back and forth.

Also if I do get the 12 Pro I’ll likely make a couple dozen posts about it and not want to return it, but end up having to to avoid a 24/7 headache.

I liked the Jet Black 7+ in some ways more than the 8+ even though the 8+ has basically every modern convenience including wireless charging.

I’ve spoken to a few people at Apple and they’ve all indicated that there isn’t a limit to returns. Technically a customer could go through the entire iPhone 12 lineup if they needed to, but that customer would likely end up keeping one of the phones. I assume that’s because customer satisfaction is their priority and they don’t end up losing money since refurbished products hold value extremely well.

This all would be so much easier if I could have just kept my iPhone 12 Pro Max since I was 100% satisfied beyond *insert broken record here*.

I'm really hoping for another 2 years of support for the 8 Plus, it's still plenty fast and I'm fine using it and the SE for a while. The 6s is just now reaching EOL after iOS 14 so I'm reasonably confident 🤞 Hopefully the SE plus comes out with LCD this year or next.
I'm worried that the SE Plus may just be a basic iphone 11 with tweaks/strip back - so 828p resolution. The older Plus series phones had a work around display so Apple may not want to mess about with 1080p anymore as they didn't add it to XR or 11.

We may end up waiting around for a year or two just to end up with essentially an iPhone XR with 5G.

Yeah I'm worried about this too :(

likely the case for now but there will surely be benefits to using the same panels in all devices eventually.

Part of me wants to order an iPhone 12 Pro or even another iPhone 12 Pro Max. It is incredibly frustrating not having an option in the current iPhone lineup that’s an upgrade over my 8+ that doesn’t cause PWM headaches.

There was speculation that if Apple had made any adjustments they would apply to the new purple iPhone 12, but again probably wishful thinking.

I feel what your saying but when you know, you know. I spent a few hours on a family members 11 and ended up feeling the same way about it = I'm no fan and the resolution is not high enough for me. But I knew that already.....

The iphone 12 Pro in purple is just a paint job, I can't see why Apple would make any changes. And we both know the 12 Pro Max gives us eye strain, no matter how much we want it.

I have seen lots of posts on the headache issues in the past and always thought it was a bit of a myth.

I have had an X since release day and it was an amazing phone but recently treated myself to a 12 pro.

After a couple of weeks I started with headaches, I never put 2 + 2 together for another week or so after that and was really suffering.

I went for my eyes testing and was told glasses might help, which they didn’t (after a decent cost for test and glasses)

I panicked and bought an 11 for next day delivery and immediately felt the benefits and sold the 12 pro.

However I was left with pain and diagnosed with a cluster headache which could take 3-4 months to clear, I am on beta blockers to help with the pain which is disrupting sleep and I am suffering with work due to the tiredness is causes too.

Bottom line, I no longer think the PWM issue is a myth! I am 10 weeks into a headache and it’s a real struggle.

For anyone suffering, sell the 12’s, downgrade and wait for this OLED technology to hopefully blow over.

Yup, these headaches can take what I’d say is an almost equivalent of time or even longer compared to how long the phone was used to clear up.

The argument here is if there was a hardware adjustment made to the display controller then ordering the latest iPhone 12 color would guarantee receiving the latest hardware.

I took a video of an iPhone 12 Pro at an Apple Store:

Better than the Max at 100% and between 22%-50% brightness? Possibly.

Perfect? No.

Thanks for the share. Glad I avoided trying one now.
It does seem better than iPhone 12 Pro Max, and surprisingly to me significantly better than iPhone 12. I’d be slightly curious how well we would respond to the 60Hz mode since Apple Watch causes me no issues. That’s the only reason I have hope for iPhone 13: Apple Watch’s LTPO OLED causes me no issues, so even if it has PWM if they can significantly reduce the amplitude it may be worth a try especially during the extended holiday returns period.

It’s there. Thankfully for smartphone manufacturers most users aren’t sensitive to it so they won’t notice.
Yeah I guess. If it's not obvious enough that I don't see it for the last 3 years I'm using it every day I will say it's non existent for me.

Have never seen any flickering on my iPhone X
You do understand that it is not visible to the naked eye, correct? No one here is saying they can just pick up an OLED phone and “see” the flickering. That is why it takes slow motion video to show what is happening. While not visible in use, it is happening and causing issues for those sensitive.

At times I can visibly see the flickering, so I must be in a particularly sensitive group.

Not saying it is impossible as I have zero reason to doubt you, just that in all the time ive spent reading in these forums I’ve never heard someone say they actually saw the flickering without doing a video. I get instant headaches but I can throw that 12 Pro down to 20% and hold it an inch from my eyes and not see a flicker. I wonder what it means, if anything for the eyes of someone who can visually see it vs someone who cannot.

It’s incredibly sporadic (I can’t see it all the time) but definitely noticeable on occasions when I do.

It’s obvious to anyone who is paying attention
I's not obvious to me and I'm paying attention. In fact I had read OP first post fully. If you think I'm wrong then please quote where OP said "it affects people who's sensitive" in his first post.
I'm waiting..

“I really hope Apple can see and hear this message, because it is not only me, but 30% of your customers having problems like this!”

Obviously the OP didn’t make a blanket statement that everyone is having issues with OLED. It’s right there in the original post. Perhaps you could message the OP and ask that they revisit the thread they have not been in since December and ask that they change the title so that your mind can be placed at ease.
