Easy. Stop buying their large phones.

Apple is a business. They make decisions driven by sales and profits, not user feedback.

If you're still buying their phones because you want iOS, well then they have you by the balls, and now you're Apple's bitch. Mr. Tim Cook is a a damn fine CEO. I hope you take us to 2 Trillion!

Apple would need to manufacture 4”or 4.3”, light, thin, with new processor, great battery life, edge to edge OLED, wireless charging, EKG iPhone se2 first to see how big demand is for it.

We need to storm down to Cupertino and throw down all of our larger phones and start a bonfire.

How do you convince Apple to keep making a 4" iPhone? By convincing the market in Asia to buy 4" phones. But they don't. They prefer larger screens, thus the success of Galaxy Note, and later, iPhone Plus. This market is the growth market, thus their demand is what Apple would generally follow (gold color, larger screen, dual SIM, etc).

Heck, look at Android phones. Even their cheap $100 phones have at least 5" screen or larger.

I kinda regret that I didn't buy the SE as I thought Apple would keep it in the lineup this year (or at least update it). But they didn't. Was hoping to trade in my old iPhone 5 for the SE.
The Asian market have the right idea.

You can still get an SE from third party sellers.

I have been predicting a 2019 5.5" 326 ppi 750x1624 LCD iPhone measuring approximately 2.7" x 5.4", with Face ID. That would be smaller than the XS and slightly smaller than the 8, but would display as much on-screen information as the XS, and way more information than the 8.

I don't think they'll make another SE any time soon, but that 5.5" LCD iPhone would please a lot more people, and would also be relatively inexpensive. Since it would keep the XS' aspect ratio and the same on-screen displayed information, developers wouldn't have to do anything extra to support this 5.5" LCD. In essence, it would be almost the exact same phone as the XS from a developer's perspective, but for consumers it would be a cheaper and smaller yet modern iPhone.

As far as trustworthy and relevant data goes, I don't really give Nick Ackerman much credit. He's entertaining and I'll watch something he's done if my usual trusted reviewers have already done their things.

But something I saw that Nick did recently pitted an iPhone SE against an iPhone XS Max. He did the usual, trendy but mostly irrelevant "speed test" thing where you open a bunch of applications, see how quickly they load, and then after you load everything you go back and see whether everything remained in memory and loads instantly.

This was interesting to me because the iPhone SE was surprisingly very close to the iPhone XS Max, so close that it would be reasonable for us to think that if Apple produced an upgraded iPhone SE, too many people would opt for the upgraded 4" phone instead of buying this year's premium flagship iPhones.

Hmmmm.... :)

Either you're a shareholder or you're a part of the Church of Apple.

What’s the point of your thread then. Just to rant and hope other nod along?

Anyway, I think your best hope is that in the coming year Apple add an iPhone ‘XE’ of sorts tot the lineup. Smaller version of the XR but physically closer in size to the SE. That would be cool.

The XR should have been the XE to begin with at around 5”.

The fact that it is physically larger than the X is the only thing I’m complaining about the XR.

FWIW, Apple continued manufacturing and selling the iPhone 6 through third party only sources up until this year - it’s possible the SE will live on in this manner (it will be a single space grey 32GB model only however) so anyone who wants the formfactor might still be able to get their hands on it for another year or two yet. Don’t take this as gospel but something to bear in mind...

I like my SE. But I cannot read on the SE any longer due to my eyes getting old.
I do like the size.
If they made a full screen phone out of SE, the screen diagonal would be 5".
Apple should do it.

I love the iphone SE.
The battery life is amazing, it's so easy to use and to hold, it's super fast, the screen size is perfect, it looks cute and it just works. It even has a headphone jack.

There's absolutely nothing more appealing / practical or useful about having a larger screen than 4 inches for a smartphone.
I don't want or need some kind of tablet device bulging out of my pocket, I just want this. Totally efficient and functional.

This is the perfect iphone and Apple just killed it.

[IMO, Rant Over etc..]

How do we convince Apple to keep making a 4" phone?

Vote with your wallet... and have enough of the rest of the world to vote with you.

Keep fighting the good fight.

It wouldn’t display content any larger though, it would still display 320 points across, as the screen wouldn’t be wider the text wouldn’t be bigger. You’d just get more vertical resolution to show more of a webpage or text conversation at once.

Mathematically, 5.5" would make the most sense for a hypothetical XE.

As long as it’s in a physically smaller body than the X still, that sounds good to me. Although with noticeably thicker bezels, it might not be by much.

Oh that’s fine. As long as it’s in a physically smaller body than the X still, that sounds good to me. Although with noticeably thicker bezels, it might not be by much.
It would be noticeably smaller than the X, at least if the bezel sizes of the XR are any indication.

Calculating the 326 ppi LCD screen size with the 19.5:9 aspect ratio and same amount of screen info as the XS, and using the bezel sizes of the XR, the 2.3x5.0" (5.5" diagonal) screen of this hypothetical phone would fit into about a 2.72x5.4" frame. In comparison, the XS is 2.79x5.65". This hypothetical LCD based small iPhone XE would probably be a bit thicker than the XS though.

tl;dr:

My hypothetical 5.5" XE would display the same amount of info as the XS, but would use a 326 ppi LCD, and the overall phone size would be about 5-6 mm shorter and 1-2 mm narrower than the XS.

iOS doesn’t really fit a 4 inch screen. I hope Apple never makes a phone that small again.

iOS still runs perfectly well on my SE, and iOS has run perfectly on an SE for over 10 years now. That comment is illogical.

And a lot of us wouldn’t mind a small phone with a larger (edge-to-edge) screen, but just prefer the SE’s form factor, so our phones don’t feel like we’re holding a bar of soap with those rounded edges.

1) it seems quite a few users are hoping for a SE form factor but an edge-to-edge screen. this is just impossible because there will be no space for the faceID sensors and the larger battery required for a decent battery life (due to the larger screen).

2) one possibility, though highly unlikely, is that apple is withholding the release of such phone until they can make an sufficiently efficient processor

3) another suggestion was a phone with a screen closer to 5.5". My hypothesis is that didnt happen because of the china market. if apple is just going is make 1 XR, it will be larger than smaller, as the chinese market likes large screens.

Yes but this is a forum to discuss the iphone, not all the other things to worry about in the world. (There are other forums for that).

Can it really be less profitable than the ridiculous iWatch? I guess we don't have the figures.
Ya I watch I’m sure is pretty profitable. The SE is probably doesn’t sell as well without discounts. My mom was super bummed the SE was discounted. But I really can’t see Apple releasing another small iPhone. The profit isn’t there.
