I don’t really need the encryption, so I can get rid of it if it causes issues. Let me know what the negatives are. Thanks.
In the past I'd say performance, but at least with your sequential benchmarks, your performance seems fine with that encrypted drive.

I personally don't like encryption when it's not necessary because it needlessly complexifies things. If in the future you say transport it to another machine but don't remember the password, then you're permanently locked out of your data. And if you ever need data recovery for a failed drive, it's basically impossible, although you should ideally have multiple proper backups so you wouldn't need data recovery.

I can remove encryption, let me know why it’s not ideal. Thanks.
My 4 drive enclosures, 2 Maiwo K1717 and 2 Acasis; 1 a 405 Pro Max Dual Drive and 1 405 Pro, I use for home use are not encrypted. But I do encrypt my older 4TB 405 M1 Acasis startup drive I use for my M1 14" MBP when traveling. Just because if someone was to swipe it they would not have all my info. Have not seen any negatives performance wise since I did this in 2022.

Far as your speeds and temp all looks great! Congrats, see it was't that hard and down the line if you get a TB 5 Mac you can now easily swap out the SSD's and put then in a super fast TB5 enclosure

I’m in the market for a USB-C NVMe SSD enclosure and have narrowed it down to three options:
  • COLORII MC40 – approximately $45
  • QWIIZLAB ES40UR – approximately $65
  • Hagibis MC40 – approximately $65
At first glance, they all seem to offer similar features, but I’m curious about what justifies the price differences. Is it the build quality, thermal management, compatibility, or other factors?

Colorii is the brand of the manufacturer. They are the OEM for both Hagibis and the Qwiizlab. I have both the Hagibis and Qwiizlab and they are identical aside from the branding and packaging, and the slightly different included thermal pads. Even the hardware identifier and the firmware revision was the same.

The only other notable difference is that the Qwiizlab advertises 8 TB support while the Hagibis advertises 4 TB. I don’t know if that’s a real difference though, or if it’s just documentation error. Oh and the USB-C cable is different. My Hagibis came with a USB-C cable that has integrated LED that indicates voltage, current, and wattage.

So you would get the COLORII one since it’s $20 cheaper? Thanks!

Where are you getting it from? When I saw it at Alibaba, it was closer in cost after shipping, and I wasn’t sure how long the shipping would take. If you’re getting any of these from AliExpress or Alibaba, make sure to check the shipping details.

I’m assuming the Colorii has exactly the same included accessories but I haven’t ordered one so I can’t confirm that.

Anyhow, the prices at AliExpress fluctuate. I got the Hagibis for <US$55 but the Colorii cost more at that time. For $45 shipped, that’s a steal.

Ah, for Canada on Alibaba, I see that the silver model is significantly cheaper than the grey model. Nice. 👍

I don’t see mention of the included thermal pads and tools but hopefully it’s the same.

If the shipping to Europe is a fast method, then go for it, and please report back when you get it. :)

The only difference between the silver and grey is the colour. The anodized grey colour can be scratched off whereas the silver wouldn't show scratches as easily. That's one reason I prefer silver MacBooks to Space Grey.

My Hagibis and Qwiizlab are both grey like Apple's Space Grey because that's all that was available at the time. I would have preferred silver, although it my case in doesn't really matter since they just sit on my desk so there isn't much opportunity for them to get scratched significantly. Interesting to see they have black now too.

BTW, in that video, they show the included thermal pads and tools, as well as the packaging with protective sleeve. It looks just like Qwiizlab's, even down to the sleeve. The packaging for the Hagibis is different and the Hagibis doesn't include a sleeve.

I won't use it daily and I baby sit it, so I ordered the gray one, thank you for your help, I will post when I have it!

Do you have a link? I'm in Canada, too, and I'm seeing the silver model $5 more than the grey one. And they're still over $80 CAD, which isn't really a deal for these.

Hmmm... It says it can't be shipped to this address:

There is another listing but it's $79.xx for the grey. Free shipping with 1-2 weeks delivery:

How do you update it?

These instructions are for an older firmware but they still apply for the latest firmware. Just ignored the download link at the beginning of the instructions and instead get the latest firmware from the link that @mogens posted above.
