The only trouble Apple and Tim are in, is from the armchair CEOs on this message board .
Apple is doing just fine and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

These camera bump complaints rank right in there with the series 3 Red dot posts. I don't tend to look at the back of the iPhone or the side of the crown on my watch very often. They are all non issues. The issues remain on the uptight posters here. I look at the screen that's where all the action is. Also as for 3D Touch it's all in all about as useful as teats on a bull.

Just curious...what is the issue with a camera bump? Would you rather have a worse camera to eliminate the bump, or a thicker phone?
There are those who simply do not like the aesthetics of the camera bump and feel the look is more refined when the camera is flush with the back. Also, for those who do not use a case, it will cause the phone to rock while it is on its back on a flat surface. And I get those things. For me personally, it is the least of my concerns. I don't think it is ugly nor does it get in my way.

I agree with he camera bump. I feel Steve would have never allowed it under his watch. Otherwise the iPhone X is pretty much the perfect design after the iPhone 4.

Steve had his share of issues. BTW, Steve is dead - he ain't coming back. What he would or would not have done is not germane to Apple any longer.

Everyone says that. But if Apple actually did release such a phone, the forums would be full of complaints about the chunky design and high weight caused by the extra battery, Samsung and LG would be airing fat joke ads, and the “Steve would never have allowed this” posts would be more abundant than ever.

Perhaps... but you'd get no complaint from me. A minimally thicker phone would afford a bit more battery life and would be less prone to bending. And it would lay flat on a desk or table.

I really, really wanted a new phone this cycle but didn't purchase due to cost. I purchased my MBP instead. Felt that at least I got my money's worth for over $1k. Also, really wanted AirPods but wouldn't purchase as the technology is getting old and Apple won't share what the sweatproof/waterproof rating is for the '16 model. My 7+ might just be with me until its no longer useable. None of the upgrades were worth the money they are charging as I don't watch videos or do a lot of work on my phone. The phone, for me, supplements my more heavily used Apple Watch and iPad. It's not as critical to me as it once was (though may be for others). Phones are great, but they last and don't necessarily need to be upgraded that often, especially given the huge price increase in '18.

Annually, hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue, tens of billions in profit.

A cash reserve that would make some countries proud.

If their current state all rests on Tim, then I guess the money is all his, too? Some problem.

The drama is real though. When you put it the way you did, yes, sounds like a drop in the bucket. When you look at it from perspective of stock value and investors (what matters most), Tim is not doing so well indeed.
Remind me again which multi Billion dollar company you run again? Now if you are sitting on Apple board of directors.

They did, it’s called the Xr and was the best selling iPhone release of 2018

And the fat jokes are real

Tim not acting in accordance to what many here expect does not equate to Tim being in trouble.

Apple has been having some ups and downs with stock prices, various changes with staff, software and hardware glitches, and legal battles with various companies. This isn't anything new. Strip away the hyperbole of the Op and many other threads on here with the same or similar subject matter, and there really isn't any fire to gather around. It is much ado about nothing

I don’t necessarily disagree with your post, but we also have to have a sense of reality, and that’s Apple has ‘overly-pushed’ the limits this year with their prices for their phones, and it clearly has shown, as the consumer market is speaking by not upgrading their phones. Now, obviously that’s partially due to the performance with iOS 12 and the battery replacement program. Regardless though, a thousand dollar phone is not appealing to the majority of consumers, and Tim Cook should have the realization that they need to revamp their pricing strategy moving forward, because if they don’t, obviously the economic conditions are showing the downward trend for upgrades.

In addition, it does seem like Tim Cook is likely going to make the necessary changes in some form or another, as he did mention they will be offering more services, trade-ins, etc. moving forward with the iPhone. I would expect 2019 to have more announcements on this in September.

You bring up a good point I failed to speak of, and one I agree with (re: pricing). I don't think the pricing issue is unique to Apple. Samsung is feeling the same type of reaction (or lack thereof). I think pricing is an issue for a lot of electronics, cars, housing, and many other things consumers focus on.

In my opinion, a lot of it has to do with the general mindset of many millennials, who don't seem to have the same kind of focus and goals many of us older men and women do (re: ownership and purchase).

Our society has been transitioning to a 'in the moment' throw-away mindset. Granted, the 'in the moment' mindset has been with us since the late 1960s. However, the reasoning is appears to be different with the younger crowd.

In my opinion, Apple still makes quality products that enhance our lives in various ways. Their ongoing challenge is to try and recruit and keep the younger crowd, who don't appear to care about Apple status symbol like so many here are enamored with.

Even if Apple were to change pricing, (read: reduce to what many here see as acceptable) I don't believe that (in and of itself) will produce the Apple euphoria of old, that many here have seen and experienced over the years.

You are correct.

... so go out and upgrade. I just did my duty as a fellow Apple member and upgraded my iPhone. Make Apple great again.

I just realised that my new iPhone 8 is not compatible with my macbook pro because I cannot upgrade past high sierra. But the iPhone 8 needs iTunes 12.7 which is only available in mac os Mojave.

So Tim do you really want the situation where i have to use my windows pc to sync my iPhone?

Let me raphrase you a little :

OFFSHORE cash reserves, that make Bermuda, Panama and so on proud... not our hospitals, roads, schools and even banks are proud of these reserves.

They also make China proud with thousand of work places.

Same thing here. I could in theory upgrade (MBP 15 early 2014, nVidia GT 750) to Mojave. But then I'd lose CUDA support. So basically I'm probably stuck with High Sierra.

Thanks Apple. Won't forget ...

They had the second best quarter in their history. They’re facing the same headwinds that everyone else in the business is facing.

But the Macrumors rhetoric wants to spin Apple negatively any way they can, but the reality is, Apple will be fine moving forward and Tim Cook isn't going anywhere. I do however, want to see Apple emphasize the pricing structure to be more aware that the consumer generally isn’t attracted to a $1,000 iPhone, 2019 should be interesting to see what changes are made for any pricing.
