Any "special words" you have to use to get them to hold it? I called Fedex and they said that APPLE controls whether or not they can hold them at the distribution center and that they would not do it for me??? This seems ridiculous.

I called and they did place the request in. I'm still going to watch to see if it gets on the truck and zip home from work if that is the case.
Same here, the rep told me that the computer won't allow her to request the hold and because it is from Apple, they have special restrictions and only Apple can call Fedex allowing the hold....
Yes and Apple email with the link to the apple site and then the link to check the tracking.
Apple knows we will be pissed...
Apple knows that we will be pissed if some of us miss the package containing our 3G iPads.
They just sent me this email:
By the way, my order says Prepared for Shipment and my guess is that this email is to reassure those that have "prepared for shipment" or "not yet shipped"

Yeah, the subject says "ACTION REQUIRED." I read the message several times just to make sure that no action is, in fact, REQUIRED.
Not sure about that. I received my tracking number this morning (5AM EST), but received this email just now (about 3PM EST).
I think the point if the email is to make sure you take delivery, or use the pre-sign option.

I feel your pain, I was in the same boat but they just sent mine out a few mins ago and it said it shipped out at 9am this morning. I think they are just late on updating us on the tracking, if it says prepared for shipping I wouldnt worry!
It's a "Cover Your Ass" move in case people didn't realize they would be delivering on a weekday, I suppose. I think it's nice that they sent that follow-up e-mail.
I got the same email. Did your subject line say "Action Required"?
Mine did and its got me worried again. The subject line says that, then the body of the email (just like yours) basically says to do nothing...

New Apple Email
I just got another email from apple. I got one earlier today letting me know my unit shipped. This is the New email:
Subject: Action Required: Order 7xxxxxxxxx
Dear PETER,

time. You will receive a separate shipment confirmation email
today with tracking information for your order.

I just called for them to hold mine and she originally said it probably wouldn't go through but it did! I have to wait until Saturday to get mine. If you are having issues with it, call back. It probably also has something to do with where you live and how they treat these express packages but most of the time they will be required to try on Friday and then they can hold for Saturday pickup for these overnight packages. Good luck!
funny i was just saying the same thing ... hell it just went right past me im in easton pa ...
Somewhere Oklahoma... my iPad is coming from Tennessee. Will be delivered by 3pm according to FedEx. Looks like it's going to be a happy weekend for me.
