I picked up my non-nano 11“ today as well and took a good long look at the (sole) nano 13“ that was in the showroom. The biggest negative is the black levels which are (expectedly) elevated. The resulting lower contrast makes pictures/videos look a little „flatter“, i.e. with less 3D depth. Which is a look that one might actually prefer as the content looks a little more natural and not as artificially „flashy“. But if you want the full-on OLED pop, you need to stick with the non-nano. Text (which is my main use case) is very, very slightly less sharp, but only if you look extremely closely; not a deal breaker at all. The nano feels a lot nicer to touch, though; the surfacer is actually smoother than the non-nano which has that well known „glass grip“. The light diffusion itself is spectacularly effective and neutralized the glaring ceiling lights in the Apple store with ease.

If these were closer in price, I would probably still be in the Apple store hemming and hawing. As I have no use for 1 TB of storage and/or 16 GB of RAM and/or the extra performance core, reason prevailed and I stuck with the non-nano. But I will sure think back longingly to the nano if and when I‘ll use my iPad outside of the house.

I’ve received my nano and so far I’m really pleased I made this choice. My primary reason for wanting it was I travel a lot in my campervan and sit outside a lot. Have a beer watch some movies. With my current IPad that was impossible in dark scenes. I would not be able to see anything on the screen. I’ve tried it with the nano and it is so much better. I can actually see what’s going on.

For blacks and colours looking from off centre makes them a little worse but not as much as the reviews and videos I watched.

Also I think the borders not being nano is a complete non issue for me.

I was stressing so much about the choice but for me this seems the perfect choice.

I just posted about the nano screen after my visit to the Apple Store this morning - see this thread for my impressions of the different models (screen, colours, Magic Keyboard, etc). https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ipad-pro-m4-impressions-after-visiting-apple-store.2426381/

Regarding the nano texture screen - it wa nice. But there was a clear difference in clarity and colour, which is typical of matte displays. The screen has a lovely texture to touch, nicer in some ways than the regular glossy display. There is also a little resistance when using the pencil, giving it a slightly more paper like feel. However the trade offs with clarity aren’t worth it for me, so I stuck with the regular screen.

Interesting... I found the text to be noticeably less sharp. But so much of this depends on perception tbh.

Anyone with a nano or have seen the nano noticed if fingerprints are less of an issue on a nano display.

Just anecdotal at the moment. I used it for an hour an noticed lots of finger prints and was worried. Then looked at my old iPad and it looked way worse and I had not even noticed them as I was not looking :)

I've used the nano for a few couple hours now and so far I'd say it definitely is not worse.

No nano iPad’s in stock in our local area stores. Surprised they did not get a few in. Hopefully have some on display. Now will have to decide to keep the normal oled iPad Pro 13 that will be getting today or wait another month for a nano, since will be past exchange period on the normal one.

I think yours is the perfect example of a scenario where the nano texture makes total sense

Now I'm thinking Apple should have nanoed the bezel of the standard-glass iPads, so that their users could get a taste of the tactile smoothness. It would have made for a nice ☯️.
The extra grip of standard glass is probably useful on the bezel.

I spend a lot of time on my boat in the summer, and I am kicking myself because I KNEW I should’ve kept my nano order just for the reasons you described. Now they are not showing available anywhere until July. 😤 I swear I am my own worst enemy sometimes.

Has anyone actually been able to pick up the nano in store in the US (or other countries for that matter?)

Think about it this way: you can always apply a nice matte screen protector and get some additional protection on your screen

It should filter down to the base Pros eventually. If Nano is the bottleneck currently then it’s a win win for Apple to restrict it to 1TB/2TB. People either spend silly money on unnecessary upgrades to get the Nano option, or it means they need less Nano panels anyway as people buy the storage they actually need and don’t get the choice.

Literally within minutes it slipped to mid-June shipments. I’m hoping it shows up in stores before then. I’ll be checking daily as I really want the nano display and would prefer not to wait until June 17.
I don't know how accurate it is, but my nano order from ATT changed to shipping May 16th.

My non-nano from ATT 11" is currently out for delivery

Mine was a personalized 13” nano and I selected in-store pickup and got a 15 May promised date; still haven’t gotten the “ok, come on!” notification.

I received both a nano and a standard today. I had first ordered the nano one, and by the time I had seen more hands on videos and changed my mind it was too late to cancel so I ordered a standard glass one on top of the nano texture one.

Got to test them both outside on my balcony today. The contrast and colour differences didn’t really bother me at all. I really liked the feeling of there being nothing between me and the content, like as if I was reading a magazine or a newspaper. This was what iJustine also talked about. It was really nice.

The thing that made me not like it was the way that the nano texture makes whites shimmer. Like as if made of mother of pearl. Other matte screens also have this shimmer, so it’s nothing new.

So in the end I’m returning my nano texture and keeping the standard glass. I really wanted to like the nano texture, iJustine had gotten my hopes up a bit.

13” models with nano are available in several Chicago-area stores. I expect the 11” model will be available in stores next week. Apple tends to rotate availability of CTO models at product launches.

My local store had nanos and had I called when they opened I would‘ve been able to snag one.

Matte screen looks so washed out compared to the glossy screen. Unless you were constantly using your iPad outside I don’t know why anyone would get the matte screen. The glossy screen looks so much crisper with much better contrast.

Went to Apple Store Union Square today, they had plenty of stock of nano texture for 11" and 13". Definitely leaning nano texture at this point, it makes daytime use far better in my opinion. Blacks certainly looked a little washed out, but I think on the whole it's better. It definitely seemed more resilient to the elements than my Studio Display. Accidentally dripped single drop off coffee 😅, and it wiped right off with no issues.

I thought it looked nice too. But my thinking is the main selling point of the M4 is its OLED display. And an OLED display means much better contrast and pure blacks, so to choose to wash out those blacks, even a little, makes me want to stick with the regular display.

The nano is fantastic. I'd definitely love to get it but the value of it seems to be miles off. It IS nice and my preferred option, but having to spec bump to get there makes the price too dear compared to just putting on a paper like protector to a normal spec one. The iPad just doesn't work at the moment as a laptop replacement if only even because of stupid things like the cursor being unchangeable from the dot let alone other more sizeable limitations of the OS.

The other issue is that fingerprints clearly accumulated immediately. I think longer term it could get quite annoying indeed having to be so careful about cleaning the screen with a "sanctioned" wipe. It did do a great job comparatively of allowing the fingerprints to be ignored so perhaps this is just a bit of FUD rather than any real issue.

The pen feel seems a lot nicer on it, however it still is glass and so definitely not as nice as rival e-ink screens. The other issue is that if a new, better screen protector came out that sorted this aspect, it surely would not be as possible as on the glass one to put whatever said protector it is. Obviously again a long shot concern, but if the intent is to have it for years it is something to consider.
