Edu store shows 2 weeks for the nanos
Interesting. It’s 5 week on the regular store, at least for the 11” model. I wonder if the nano will be available in stores on 5/15 (perhaps on a rotating basis in select stores like they do with CTO Macs).

The rumors were that the 11” Pro would be in short supply because of the display. That seems unfounded given that the glossy is still available for 5/15 delivery.

I noticed that as well, it means you can still get distracted and annoyed by high-contrast reflections. As to your guess, they could have left just a small non-textured hole for the camera and Face ID.

Yep. Since Face ID has a lot more sensors plus the camera, probably would have looked weird if they cut out all of them (or made it one giant pill) so I ended up going glossy with my 11" iPad Pro.

The regular iPad isn’t very glossy. Not at all, in comparison. You notice glossy immediately, and for some it’s very distracting. For instance, the previous Galaxy Book3 Pro, was extremely glossy with the OLED. The Book4 Pro is not now. Point is, if it ain’t broke…..

Ideally you would have matte with no compromise. This is sort of what nano suggests. Probably isn’t there yet, but we shall see. Certainly there’s ‘some’ downside

I highly recommend waiting for reviews to see how the nano screen actually looks rather than rely on marketing.

I used to have a matte screen protector and it's glaring and bright when used outdoors because the light is diffused to create this white haze across the screen.

Apple's anti-reflective coating on their glossy displays is actually pretty good, and does a decent job at reducing reflections.

Jason Snell and Myke Hurley talked about the nano texture in the Upgrade podcast after the event today and said something like “only buy this if you know you need it”.

I was looking at side by side demo's of the two screens. and honestly what I was seeing is there is not much difference between the two , except for the reflexions on the regular screen. I am happy with my choice.

The fact that they include a polishing cloth with the nano display version means that it’s probably not for me.
Is your decision driven by concerns with the polishing cloth or the display? I have the polishing cloth and use it regularly. It’s one of the best $19 purchases I’ve made. It cleans my iPad and MacBook Pro screens effortlessly with zero risk of screen damage. I’m curious about the reasoning behind your decision logic. 🤔

The polishing cloth doesn't have Find My.

I’m curious how using the pencil feels on the nano texture glass. But not enough to buy it. I also don’t really use the pencil.
I bought the nano texture glass for this reason. I use the pencil a lot and thought it might affect a more paper-like feel with hopefully minimum/unnoticeable diffusion.

EDIT: I cancelled my nano texture display order and purchased the standard display for two reasons:

1) I found out after receiving the order confirmation email that nano-texture option was not available for pickup on May 15 (the site showed pickup availability at my chosen store, but the confirmation email showed delivery a month later — this was an Apple ordering glitch that Apple Support replicated).

2) I learned that the nano-texture is created through a chemical process and not etching and does not provide that hoped for paper-like feel — which was the reason I chose it in the first place.

This picture alone makes me happy I didn’t go nano. It almost looks like LED vs OLED.
I think that picture is a bit misleading since a LCD display mainly appears grey when you are in a dark environment while the nano texture appears more grey when you are in a very bright environment.

It’s just that I am not overly careful with my iPad screens and I am used to being able to wipe it with any microfiber or even just a t-shirt.
And since it’s a touch screen I would be wiping it much more frequently than a desktop display.

See my post above. I just don’t see myself sticking to only using that polishing cloth. Since the screen also has to withstand the pencil it would probably be fine but I mainly use the iPad at home and in the evening and I can’t remember ever having an issue with glare. That being said I’m still interested since it’s new (on an iPad).

Ha! I think you own the internet .. for the moment. 😂
Thank you, though it was tongue-in-cheek the actual reason: He wants to be able to use any nearby cloth, and not having to hunt for the single Apple-approved polishing cloth.

Hell no I wouldn't unless I was an artist and it felt something like the matte screen protectors they sell.

Glossy all the way. These screens are bright enough to where reflections aren't an issue in 95% of scenarios.

From 5:55 onwards:

I will definitely go for the standard glas (but still 1 TB).

It's a no. I will never use screen protectors. I am hard on my iPads, and the screens -- meaning toss it in a bag or a briefcase. I clean all my screens with isopropyl + paper towels -- never, ever a problem with Apple's glossy screens and glass. Sticking with the robust, tried, and true regular glass. Not babying this bish.

i would wait to see how fragile the nano structure is...on the XDR display is way too fragile, is also in the paper says not to touch it..so on ipad that is touch ...i would wait to see if its increase in durability

I ordered the Nano 13" model and it will be here next Wednesday. I've been using a matte screen protector on my iPad Pro for a long time now and I'm very glad they are giving this as an option.
