The two are not at all in the same class, except for the price. The X is a slightly taller iPhone (non-Plus), and the Note 8 is a gargantuan phablet with a pen. I think you should take your use case scenario first into consideration before you consider the two polar-opposite options.

Both are competing for a place in the op’s pocket.
It’s comparable.

I would hardly call the Note 8 "gargantuan". It's roughly the same size as a "plus" iPhone, and the X screen is roughly the same size as a "plus" iPhone. It's a question of whether you want the plus size with a much larger screen or not. I do agree a comparison with the S8 form factor is more appropriate. But, the Noted 8 is still cheaper than the X asbd provides a lot more in every dimension. So whether they are comparable depends on which factors you are considering

I just moved from the 7 Plus to a V30. Oh how I missed Android. I think they'll both be good phones but I thought the Note 8 was just too darn heavy. The screen just a bit too curved.

Really specs aside, it's about if you like iOS too much to move into the Android ecosystem.

That and I've got to say, going from 1 bar to full bars... I knew Intel had crappy modems but man was I missing out on my unlimited data! Big time...
im thinking about making the switch as well.

I had the Note 8, and got rid of it today for a iPhone 8 plus. Glad to be back in iOS. Had the Note 8 for a month and it's weight, and size was just getting to me. It was snappy, and fun to use, but I like the phone to be easy to do on everything like iOS makes it. Both are great phones. I hope to have good battery life on the 8 plus, unlike my 7 plus.

Oh my!
Hearing that makes me not want the Note8 :(
How is the battery on the 8 Plus compared to the 7 plus my 7 Plus is horrible also overheats and shuts off while I am live for my business quite embarrassing.
[doublepost=1508103912][/doublepost]
Why not keep the 7+? Do you really need the newest version?

My iPhone 7 Plus overheats and shuts off on me while I’m running my business live on Facebook. Has poor battery life has antenna issues that can’t be fixed so that’s why I am wanting a new phone.

Go to a store and play with one yourself. I personally like the size and and it's a few grams lighter than the plus model iPhones. Tmobile had a unit in the back they let me play with because the attendant wanted to be sure I wanted the Orchid Gray. Don't go by one person's opinion on a forum. YOU are the one spending your money right?

I preordered the pixel XL 2 and after playing around with it at a Verizon store I think I made i good decision. The note 8 is great just too much added on top of android skin. If you want something similar to an iPhone with fast updates get the pixel (awesome camera too). I’ll give it a shot. Im still considering the iPhone X but the lack of a FPS does bother me (please don’t try to justify it, not now at least) this applies to this first version so I can wait till after the holidays. For those “scared” to try the note 8 don’t be I have used all the notes except 7 and they are great phones! Give it time and patience, at least 10 days! It won’t disappoint!! Or get the S8+

Agree. If you are currently using a plus size iPhone, then a size argument is kind of ridiculous. It's roughly the same size with a much larger display. And so much more. Apple has nothing comparible.

The only thing I don’t like about buying the Samsung is not being able to trade your phone in at 50% like the iPhone program has as I like to get the newest phone every year.

I think Tmobile has something called Galaxy Forever that might be what you are looking for. If not you can simply use one "jump" type programs that various carriers have.

Yeah I think I heard of it like $200 something down and verizon is 0 down but I guess thats the trade off between the two carriers.

So far it's been better than my 7 plus. It is also better than the note 8. I've been impressed with it. Only the first day so I expect it to get better. I just ordered a new apple watch s3 Nike edition cellular. So buying a new iPhone 8 plus, the watch, and a iMac this weekend. I've spent a ton. Lol

Not just one. Several here have said similar stories. Going from the note to the 8 plus or v30.

The iPhone has a wider display while the note 8 is taller. To me the iPhone screen worked nicer. Didn't feel as cramped. And easier to type on.

To you exactly......imo the Note 8 is absolutely the best phone you will be able to buy all year. The only phone that will supersede it will be the S9 but that's for next year. Myself, others, reviews, and maybe not you agree. :D

If what you are saying is true, then you are giving a company a "ton" of money for a new phone that is almost identical to the old phone, and that you are saying the first one was not good. On top of that, the 7 is just a rehashing of the 6, so hopefully the 3rd time is the charm for you on a phone that you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference if it were in a case. Same with the watch... basically the same design for the 3rd generation. Among other things, I was pretty bored with the same stuff. I skipped the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2 because they were pretty much the same as what I already had... or less since the headphone jack was removed. Now another year and same again. Meanwhile, other companies come out with new designs each cycle. Apple used to do it every other... now they are going 3 rounds. The X is finally a change, but the OS will be identical other than animated poop emojis, and they didn't create a plus version.

Glad you are happy with what you got, because as you said you gave them a ton of money. Forgetting about how happy I am with the Note 8, I'd have a hard time going back to an Apple Watch after using the Gear S3 even more.

You do know the Note 8 is LIGHTER than the 8 Plus, and is narrower as well?

I switched from 6s Plus to Note 8 2 weeks ago and it feels smaller/easier to handle and grip, at least for me, because it is narrower. In fact, when I now compare it to my 6s Plus, the Plus seems like old tech being so wide with the giant bezels and also with a duller, non-AMOLED screen. Still trying to get my GBoard keyboard typing up to parity but that's due to my own motor skills

I was in the same dilemma as you but what tipped me over to my Note 8 which I picked up 2-3 weeks ago was this:

1) In Canada at least, Bell and Telus have improved their network speeds to aprx 750mbps (striving for Gigabit LTE). At least in the major cities at this time.

2) Apple deals with both Qualcomm and Intel for their modem chipset. Intel chips do not have the capacity for GB LTE. The closest they can reach is 600 mbps. (already 150 mbps less than the existing carrier upgrade). Some iPhones have Qualcomm chips which have the ABILITY to work and achieve GB LTE speeds if your carrier can manage it.

3) Apple has crippled the features on the Qualcomm chip to match that of the Intel chip (currently a lawsuit going on regarding this). So when they release the phones next year (Intel has a GB LTE chip in the works but not ready for release at this time). Your new phone, should you have bought one, will be unable to achieve the carrier max speed should it exceed 600 mbps!

4) Apple would not activate these chips because the uproar between the carriers that carry the Qualcomm chips vs the Intel chips would be insane!

5) after researching the chipsets sold on the 8 and 8 Plus in Canada for the Bell and Telus Carriers (basically CDMA not supported which is one of the requirements on the chipset to make the GB LTE work), as well as specific antenna types) are NOT the Qualcomm chips.

6) S8, S8+, and Note 8 support GB LTE out of the gate.

When I got the Note 3, I also got my wife a Note 3. She used the Note 3 to take all these photos of our children and other things. One night I went to back them up onto her PC, and they just disappeared. My wife was devastated and angry at me (saying it was my fault). Hundreds of photos of our kids’ first day at school, birthday parties, trips to the zoo, etc, gone. Not on her PC, not on her Note 3. I had uploaded photos from my own Note 3 several times before and never had an issue. But this one time, the photos that mattered, all gone. Vanished from existence. I spent hours trying to locate them. And didn’t. Samsung wasn’t any help either. I saw a friend on Facebook about a year ago write on Samsung’s FB page that she had a similar issue with her Galaxy 7, all gone. Boy was she angry. Samsung responded to her saying they would look into it and 4 weeks later she wrote on their page again saying you haven’t been any help. One thing with Samsung, it can be unreliable. Never ever had an issue with losing content on an iPhone.
Cheers.

Now a days it is virtually impossible to lose all of your photos, it seems every phone has some sort of "cloud" service, it's gotten to the point where I would NEVER dare take a risqué photo due to the fact that it would be automatically saved in Dropbox, Samsung cloud, Google drive and several other likely back up areas!! You couldn't delete it fast enough to prevent the upload, not to mention Facebook now offering to share your latest photo lol!

But sharing an experience with a 5+ year old device isn't valid input for current day phones now. MUCH has changed.

I preordered the pixel XL 2 and after playing around with it at a Verizon store I think I made i good decision. The note 8 is great just too much added on top of android skin. If I wasn't in love with the stylus, I would have gone with the Pixel 2XL in a heartbeat, it looks like a really cool phone.

Then you have been fooled big time by Iphone 8+.

Note8 has a wider and much taller screen than 8+ in a similar body size. Note 8 screen size in terms of area is 22% bigger but with a body area that is 2% smaller than Ip8+. Not to mention Note 8 weight less as well.

In fact 8+ is more cramped and a brick.
