Long time lurker on the thread.

Have ordered a 16GB/256GB MBP

Ordered 16th Nov
Dispatches 2-3 weeks
Delivers 8th - 15th Dec
Apple app now says delivers 15th

Had a pending charge at time of order, and a new pending charge yesterday, but yet to see any update.

Anyone with similar dates got any further progress yet?

Are these machines arriving earlier than quoted or 15th fairly accurate? Reason I ask is if I log on to the store now and place an identical order it has the same shipping date

Cheers all

Similar here too. Mine switched to preparing to ship an hour ago but ETA remains 15th Dec.

New BTO MBA/MBP orders have 21st/22nd as delivery when I check via my basket.

Yup mine just changed to preparing to ship actually. Anyone any idea how long it sits there for?

Has anyone been able to pick up outside of their pick up window by a significant amount? Mine is ready now but my window is on Tuesday. I realise it's unlikely but thought I'd check.

And we have liftoff - changed to shipped in the early hours.

Apple store app still says 15th delivery, dispatch email says 8th. UPS tracking says 3rd. Go figure

Exciting news none-the-less

In the UK you can order online and collect from a store. They hand it to you outside the store and you can't buy anything at the store itself, pickup only.
You might have answered this in a previous post... but why 16gb on an Air?

Im guessing you need the extra ram for some workflow that requires it or you just want to future proof your purchase?

If you've brought 16gb why not the Pro? Just curious. Im still deciding what to buy. Im leaning towards a 8gb Air or the pro mainly for the extra 2h battery (I dont do anything intensive).

Picked up a Pro 16GB 1TB yesterday from Reading. Had it in my cart yesterday and looking at a Dec-Jan delivery date when the 'available in stores' link lit up. Clicked it and found some available for same-day pickup in London. Refreshed the screen about 45 min later and found one in Reading. Same day! So far, experience has been mostly good. Had a few crashes in Apple Silicon apps (Photos, Safari) which was surprising. (I did not do any sort of migration) MS OneDrive and Office apps working well. Even the OneDrive folder icons are showing up. Day 2 much better - no crashes yet.

Because I can afford it?
I prefer the Air form factor (in fact MacBook 12” is what I use and like most). I don’t need the Pro bells and whistles.

I did a full review of my MBA after owning it for a week, I used it to replace a 15" 2016 MacBook Pro. You might find it useful

However to answer your specific question.

I actually bought it the Morning it was launched ( I picked it up the same morning at a local store), at the time there where no proper reviews, although a couple of people had got an early shipment. At the time it was not clear how much memory I would need. I do some light video editing and a lot of photo editing as well as the significant Microsoft Office stuff for work. That is why I originally went for the 16GB version.

At the time I could have bought the 16GB Pro or Air the Apple store had both options in stock. However Apple stores only stock 1TB M1 Laptops, originally I was going to go for 512GB. So I went for the Air partly due to budget as I already was spending more on SSD, and partly because I did not like the Touch Bar that I had on the 2016 MBP.

Having the Air I prefer the typing experience partly due to the wedge design of the Air. I was keeping an open mind if the reviews did come out and say there was a compelling reason to choose the Pro then I would have returned the Air. However I have had a great experience with the MBA and don't plan to change it.

Would I still go for 16GB, given most reviews think the 8GB is sufficient for most people? I think I would still go for the 16GB version, only because I plan to keep this for a number of years and the larger memory may give it some future proofing.

So I've just received my shipping notification with an ETA of 9th Dec. Does this tracker show that the unit is in Holland? I thought it would have started in China, ie DHL are picking it up when it gets to Holland?

Mine is sitting in a cupboard, desperately begging to be played with, but as it’s a Christmas present, I’ve still got weeks until I get my grubby mitts on it.... Still, can’t complain I suppose, I’m just not known for my patience :D

No no no, we can talk you into taking it out. Do you really want it there??

Meanwhile, still no movement on mine ?

Oh hell, if I had that option I’d have found some excuse to have it ripped from its box long ago ... well it feels like long ago.
Unfortunately, it’s a gift from my parents, so there’s no chance of me weaselling my way into getting that in my hands before Christmas..... There’s always hibernation I suppose, I could lose a couple of pounds and live :D

My payment has shown as pending since 25th Nov and I received shipment confirmation yesterday. I'm guessing the transaction will finally complete tomorrow. 3 working days before the weekend seems a long time to hold onto it.
