Yes, there is. The Max has double the memory bandwidth. That's a serious factor in future proofing.

This is exactly why I went for the max even though I don't really need it today. My 2012 rMBP has lasted me 9 years because I pimped it with extra ram and ssd back then. Gone for the 16" m1 max 32/512. Storage - I have a NAS plus external fast drives if I need so 512 saved a bit.

Really interested to see the reviews and if that doubling of memory bandwidth makes a big real world difference. With the apple silicon architecture it really should.

FYI, I messaged Apple Support, asking if it is possible to add the 96W fast charger to my order for £29.

They were able to do it.

EDIT: apparently not. Replied that there is already one in the box lol

Really? I tried to do the same and despite spending 40 minutes speaking to 3 different customer service reps they said it was not possible except by cancelling my order and placing another (with a longer delivery time frame).

They were obviously doing their best to accommodate me but were unable to find a way to add it to my order (other than paying full price).

Exactly the same here, though I will order at least 1TB. I struggled quite a bit with storage back when I had my late 2013 13" and I won't make that mistake again. I also have a NAS, which works great at home, but I still want enough for on the road. I've been going back and forth between 1TB and 2TB, but 1TB makes most sense and saves a pretty penny. So does the 14" over the 16".

Must have spoken to an especially accommodating rep!

My first post woo!
I’ve gone for the 14” m1 max with 64gb ram and 2tb ssd. Primary use is for music production (lots of virtual instruments) and I went for the 2tb drive as I want to load all my samples and projects onto the main hd which should have 7.5gb read speeds for faster Pro tools loading time - excited to see how it compares to my 2019 Mac Pro 16 core. Hopefully no fan noise as my last MacBook was the 2018 i9 MacBook and that was fan city. I went for the 14 over the 16 as hopefully it weighs less and is easier to pop inside my backpack.

Congrats on your first post here! That machine should sail you off into the sunset, with a suitable soundtrack, for lots and lots of years to come. If you see what some are using for music production, 10 years isn't unrealistic. Not kidding!

Thanks! 10 years investment works out to around £0.93 per day for this Mac … not too bad! ?

My late 2013 13" lasted around 6 years, which was a bit over €1/day. But this 16" piece of cr*p works out at around €7.5/day. I can't throw it out of the window fast enough, if there's a taker outside willing to pay enough for it, of course ;)

Same here... I think potentially every one due on launch day - 26th Oct (so, UK stock rather than CTO/shipped direct from manufacturing) has it?
Hopefully. Don’t wanna go back onto the app and see it’s been delayed. Spoke to apple and they reassured me that I have launch day delivery.

Already wondering if I should have gone with 32GB RAM instead of 16GB, and now delivery dates are much later. Hopefully 16GB feels enough to last 3-5 years, otherwise I might need to return within 14 days and just wait patiently!

What is the difference between the British English and International English keyboards? I instinctively ordered a British 16" when I currently own an international keyboard 2015 15".

It's taking a lot of resistance, as very excited with the new MBP lineup and have waited some time for these models to be released, but holding off for now to wait to hear about the quietness / fan performance of both the Pro + Max to see how they compare to the previous models. The silent Air is glorious, obviously not expecting that but hopefully even with 2 external monitors connected, the fans on the new models remain off for most of the time until some really heavy lifting kicks in - interested to hear reports back over the next couple of months to confirm that.

I'm leaning towards the 14 for price reasons but actually heat + fan noise is a huge factor for me having had some horrendously noisy laptops in the past (Mac + Windows), the M1's were very encouraging and my girlfriend's Air is a dream really, hopefully the same is true for the more powerful versions!

Now wondering whether I should have paid the extra £200 and upgraded to the Max.
My order is for 16inch Pro base model, with 32 GB RAM. I must have missed the option to upgrade to the Max Pro 24 Core GPU for an extra £200; but its clearly there!

While there is probably zero chance I will need this for graphic or video work, I can see the memory speed is double !! Whether this extra speed can actually be used outside graphic work; I am unclear on.

This crossed my mind as well, and it will be interesting to see if they are as silent with very little fan action as the less powerful M1

I'm in the same position but I think realistically for most use cases we wouldn't even notice. Going to stick with current order

My order stated a delivery date of early December (can’t remember exact dates) last night but just checked it and now it’s 19th - 26th November.

Another sneaky move forward would be a nice!

I'm a little annoyed at myself for getting caught up in all the 'buzz' last night - I was clearly rushing to get the order in. I bet a few of us were. :)

My gut feeling is you are correct and I will probably just stick with my current order. My Mac mini M1 is more than capable on dual monitors for the coding I do. I can't imagine that a new Mac Pro is going to do anything other than delight us all !

There is always Apple's generous return policy - just in case there is some kind of revelation once the bench mark tests start appearing. I suspect all will be well with our decisions.
