To those paying the extra £100 for 3g, can I ask why? I'm curious as you can get a miwi for <£50 and you can of course tether with your iPhone for free (if it's jailbroken and you use mifi) and without issue I reckon because your iPad data use isn't going to be any heavier than your iPhone as you can do much the same on both devices.

I'm doing it for the GPS. Location-aware apps are becoming a lot more prevalent and the WiFi-only's "pseudo GPS" is not accurate enough!

Ah, yes, I forgot about that. I never took my macbook out the house and have no intention of taking my iPad out either so not an issue for me. I have my iPhone for GPS needs.

Thanks for that, I used my itunes account too - seems it must be "normal" then and nothing to worry about. Off to bed again now.

well i'm just thinking if i download an app on my iphone it might take a few hours to get the electronic receipt. maybe its just something apple is slow at. emailing you your receipt. can't wait to get my hands on my iPad now lol

I got the order confirmation email about ten minutes after I posted that I didn't have it yet. So all is good with the world for me.

You ordered exactly the same as me - I was wondering the same thing. It did say on checkout that it would all be shipped together in one shipment when all items become available. If the case is not in stock near the 28th I will phone up and remove it from the order I think, I don't want it holding up the order!

Rest easy magga......I just phoned the Apple Store, and they assure me that if they can't get the cases for the 28th...which they're trying their best to do...then the iPad will be sent out as a separate shipment :)

@drpellypo
I've ordered the 3G for the sheer convenience of knowing that if the iPad's charged, then I have a 3G connection. I don't really want to carry an extra device around with me, and I have no intention of ever jailbreaking my iPhone :)

32GB WiFi+3G ordered, along with a dock and camera connector kit.

Still annoyed at the 3G pricing plans. I went with an Orange SIM, but I'm still looking at getting an o2 Simplicity plan and cutting the SIM to size.

[EDIT: plus an Apple case on a separate order]

A few reasons, for me:

1) iPad data usage exceeds iPhone data usage on identical tasks, as shown in the iLounge review of the iPad 3G model.

2) I'm not jailbreaking my iPhone

3) streaming 3G internet via WiFi from my iPhone will kill the iPhone in a matter of hours - the battery life from normal regular usage kills it quick enough already and my phone needs to stay on all day coz it's my phone.

4) I could carry portable chargers for the phone with me but that's a hassle

5) I could buy a £50 MiFi from 3 and use that, but again that's something else to carry with me and, crucially, charge. I have enough things that need charging at home!

6) A MyWi will kill the iPhone in about 3 hours max (reportedly). A MiFi can handle up to 5 hours of usage (advertised). The iPad 3G can handle up to 9 hours usage (advertised). iPad wins.

All in all, an extra £50 on top of the price of a MiFi, say, is enough to have it all built in to the one device.

Same here. Nice to have the option out of the bag so to speak.

Held off getting a sim when I ordered mine, not decided who to go with yet.

Suppose I should have just bought one as it's only 20p...meh, so long as I have my iPad on the 28th I'll be happy :)

I'm Live Chatting with someone at Apple now, and she thinks all orders with SIMs and cases will be held up if the items aren't available at the time of shipping - she's saying the iPad won't come on the 28th as a result.

Questioned this given what other people have been told and she's gone off to find out.

EDIT: She's changing her tune... :)

- Hi, my name is Yolanda. Welcome to Apple! Good day to you. How may I assist you today?

Hi Yolanda

- Welcome!

I've ordered an iPad 3G with an O2 sim, case and camera kit and I have a question about delivery.

- Please ask.

I see the iPads are due to delivered by 28th, but the SIM card and the case are due to shipped by 28th.
As I have all in one order, will I have to wait until the sim and the case are available before the iPad is shipped?
I would love to have the iPad on Day 1.

- You can pick up the micro Sim locally if you prefer.

I have already placed my order for the iPad 32GB 3G, the sim, the case and the camera kit, though. And the whole order shows as shipping by 28th. Will the shipment be split so I can have my iPad on the 28th like everyone else?

- All items will ship together if the sim cards are not available just yet.

Okay, but I ordered the sim, the case and the camera kit at the same time. The case also shows 'Shipping by 28th'. Other customers have been told by Apple reps their iPads will be shipped to arrive on the 28th if the other parts of their order are not available Are you saying that's not what will happen?

- Just one moment. I just verified. The sim card has to be in the iPad so it will deliver on the same day. My apologies for the way that was worded online.

Sorry, can you clarify then: Will my iPad order be delayed if the SIM card and/or the case are not available?

- Not delayed. The iPad will be shipping out to reach you by the 28th. First day so in-store sales, something we have done in the past. We like to ship the first delivery of a new item the same as the first day of in-store sales as a way to control the crowds at the store. Sales start on the 28th, your item will arrive on the 28th.

So, if there IS a problem with the cases, for example (like there was in the US) will my case arrive later in a seperate delivery?

- Sorry, not able to discuss the US operations and how they ship. I believe they do it differently.

Okay, I just wondered what will happen in the UK if the cases are not available for delivery by the 28th?

- If we were to have an issue, which is not expected, you will be informed via email.

Okay, many thanks Yolanda. Have a good day!

I highly doubt SIMs will hold up shipping - the network operators will have plenty to fill the orders. Cases maybe, but Apple will probably split the orders if they can't get the cases.

Sim Choice

It says one sim per iPad order. Does this mean we cannot call the other carried and obtain sims from them as well?!!?

I went with O2, seemed the best deal to me..

I tried to get an Orange and an O2 one but when I went to check out only the Orange one was in the basket.

I'll just go to an O2 shop after release and get a micro SIM. O2's daily plans are better (twice as much data for the same cost) but the Orange Weekly plan is a nice idea.

You should be able to get MicroSIMs direct from the carriers once they update their webpages/stores to reflect the new release (ie: soon). I've ordered an Orange one with my iPad, but I'll get an o2 one as well (and also look at cutting down a Simplicity).

I just called Apple UK:

-They have NO record of my order placed at 1:11am, even though it appears within my 'Order Details' screen on the website
-I also have an order number
-I haven't received the confirmation email

I don't want to cause unnecessary alarm (or extra call traffic to their Store), but if anyone is in a similar situation then I'd advise you to call Apple :(

NOTE: The only advice Apple could give to me was "meh.... call back in an hour, we'll see if the order exists then"

I disagree. I used my iPod touch with a MiFi from 3 all day Saturday while moving around Oxford, and the accuracy was near perfect using Google Maps.

Damn, I didn't think this through did I? I should have got the 3g! Haha.

Seems strange. If you have an order number and the order appears online, I'd say you are safe. The confirmation email is not required, I would have thought. It's just an auto-generated notification based on the order placed, NOT the order itself.

In a couple of years when 3G data is cheaper & Better the iPad 3G will hold its value over the Wifi version

The lack of confirmation email doesn't worry me so much -the calling the Apple Store and them having no record of my order... well, that worries me a little more.

I have no confirmation email, so I phoned Apple, and they have confirmed that the order is fine.

If I were you, I'd phone back and speak to somebody else......and I'd also triple check that they're checking on the right order number :)

I hope all is well with your order :)

I definitely think the order is 'lost' (in space maybe, who knows). I caved and just placed a second identical order 15 minutes ago, it already appears slightly different within the 'Your Orders' screen -the 'cancel order' and 3 'edit' buttons on the left are highlighted blue and are clickable -this still hasn't happened with the original order.

Well, their site must be taking a bit of a beating. When I ordered about an hour ago it was noticeably slow.

EDIT: Just got my email!

That's assuming everyone has an iPhone, I don't.

I have two orders in. Both orders include a 32GB 3G and an O2 sim. The first order placed also includes a case and a camera kit.

The larger order refuses to show the EDIT buttons clickable when I examine it. The smaller order (placed later by 15 minutes) has those buttons clickable.

Also when I access via the US site, not the UK site, only the second order is visible when I go to My Account.

Finally I've had no emails yet and I ordered at 7:15am and 7:30am.

Two emails received - one for the iPad 3G, camera kit and dock, the other for the case. Ordered at 7:44 and 7:50.
