I've bit the bullet and ordered a 32gb Wifi one. I was hoping for HE discounts, but there is zero discounts on the iPad sadly.

Not received my confirmation email yet either. I'll give it a few hours then check.

To those paying the extra £100 for 3g, can I ask why? I'm curious as you can get a miwi for <£50 and you can of course tether with your iPhone for free (if it's jailbroken and you use mifi) and without issue I reckon because your iPad data use isn't going to be any heavier than your iPhone as you can do much the same on both devices.

Simple answer. I need the built in GPS. I will be using a MIFI device anyway.

I have two orders in. Both orders include a 32GB 3G and an O2 sim. The first order placed also includes a case and a camera kit.

The larger order refuses to show the EDIT buttons clickable when I examine it. The smaller order (placed later by 15 minutes) has those buttons clickable.

Also when I access via the US site, not the UK site, only the second order is visible when I go to My Account.

Finally I've had no emails yet and I ordered at 7:15am and 7:30am.

Thanks for posting, nice to know i'm not alone. Let me know how it works out for you.

When I placed my order at 1.11am last night, I thought "great, now I can relax on my day off' (the day I had specifically booked off for preordering), instead this whole process has been an absolute nightmare. If Apple have no knowledge of my order, how am I supposed to cancel it?
I don't want to get charged twice, I can't afford it and don't want the hassle as I am emigrating in a few weeks. The iPad will be used as my main method of communication back home.

NOTE: I just got the 'iPad is coming' notification emails we all signed up for.... check your inboxes.

i brought it for more of a incase kinda thing. For £50 on top of the price of the MiFi I have everything built in and also GPS. I dont plan on using the 3G a massive amount but when I'm on trains or long journeys it means I can still surf the web. I dont have an iPhone, I have a blackberry and as much as I love the my blackberry (push email, BBM, decent camera with flash, physical keyboard ect.) the web browsing is ****** and there is no way to tether it to the iPad at the moment.

I have no confirmation email, so I phoned Apple, and they have confirmed that the order is fine.

If I were you, I'd phone back and speak to somebody else......and I'd also triple check that they're checking on the right order number :)

I hope all is well with your order :)

+ 1!!!!!

Called Apple just now. No sign of my order made at 01:10 this morning. New order taken over the phone.

I urge anyone who has not had a confirmation email to call Apple as soon as!!!

If you don't have an email then log into your account. It should tell you an order number and shipping/delivery date. If you order again you may get charged twice. The money for mine has already been taken.

I have been checking the Account Status in my Apple Account since early this morning. Even took a screen shot of it for reference. Unfortunately it makes no difference according to the Apple call centre assistant i was just talking to. She even searched for purchases using my Apple ID. My Ipad purchase made first thing this morning was not there. She could only apologise for the inconvenience but could not explain what has happened.

Same here :)

Mine hadn't, but to be fair i have never been charged on my cc by Apple until an item was shipped. Since making the call this morning the charge has been made. Really weird but i am glad i made the call. Imagine waiting a couple of days

In saying that i bet the pre orders carry on for days as in the USA and the panic was over nothing.

I know you have exchange rates on currency but it might be a better solution to import the ipad than buy here in the uk, for a 32gb with sim card converting us $ to uk £ works out at £487 without shipping. However buying it here in the uk £599. Even if shipping is £30 you're still saving a tidy sum of money. Disgusting how alot of imports have the $ changed to the £. Have to hope the sim version would work with uk version.
Any reason why the sim version is soo much more expensive than the non-sim version as you aren't paying apple for the network usage with a sim or via wi-fi

Wow, they're charging before release? And you are all happy that they're sitting on hundreds of thousands of pounds of your money for a product they cant ship for two and a half weeks?

I think that just made my mind up, i'll queue and take my chances in store on release day.

I can confirm that there may be a need to call Apple, but don't base it on whether you've had a confirmation email yet. Go to your local Apple website (wherever you ordered from) and log in to your Account and check your orders. If you can't see your order at all in the list, call Apple.

If you can see your order, click on More Details and see if there's a clickable blue 'Edit' link next to your shipping address, email address and shipping email. If there is, you're golden. Just wait for your confirmation email - their systems are slow right now but it will get sent to you. If you can't click the links, your order is stuck and you should call Apple and ask them about the order.

I just called Apple and this is what I was told, as verbatim as I can remember.

"Basically we have two systems - one that generates the quote and the order number, and another that receives the order to our shipping department. What's happened with one of your two orders is that it's got stuck in the transfer process and is pretty much in limbo. I'm sending documents through to the shipping department for you now that will unfreeze the order and get it going, and you'll likely receive an email confirming your order in the next 24 hours."

He also confirmed that my place in the queue would not be affected by this glitch, as orders will be dealt with by Order Number, which was successfully generated when I placed the order in the first place.

I also asked him about the likelihood of my order being affected by late items like the case:

"I don't anticipate that being a problem. Normally we like to ship out single shipments but in this case as the iPad is due to be delivered by the 28th if there is something else holding it up we'll likely change the way we ship so the iPad gets there on time. But again that's something you can go into your account and sort out nearer the time if there's anything holding up the order."

Hope this helps!

I'm now annoyed that Apple have already taken the money from my account, despite their being nearly 3 weeks until I get my items. Surely they should leave it there until just before dispatch?

I paid by debit card - and I can't tell if it's a pre-authorisation :(

I read somewhere that pre-authorisation will reduce your available funds. I think the money is still in your account but it's been allocated to that order. So Apple don't have your money in their account, but you can't spend it in the meantime.

It wont be a pre-authorisation, it will have gone. I have checked my bank online and that transaction is listed as paid out and balance has gone down respectively.

Blah, that's poor practice. I thought there was legislation stating that you should be charged at dispatch, not weeks before?

The pre-authorisation hold on funds will likely lift in a few days, then it will reappear closer to shipping as Apple authorise the card again to make sure it is still valid.

Just a quick note for anyone still waiting for your confirmation email...

I placed my order at 0103, and all was showing up OK on the website but I hadn't received my confirmation email. About 5 minutes ago, I got an automated phone call from my banks fraud prevention department asking me to confirm recent transactions - the most recent one being the £529 approval for my 32GB WiFi + Apple Case.

Within 2 minutes of the call completing, I received my confirmation email from Apple.

So, check with your bank to see if your transaction has been fully processed or not - it may be being held up for fraud prevention checks...

to those worrying about being charged just now...

I was always confused by this so i decided to go back onto the apple website and have a chat with the little person. They said that its just a pre-authorization and that it should reappear within 3 days. so just wait and see and if not. We'll all gunna pay for it anyway aren't we? :D only problems i suppose are if you need it for bills and expecting to pay with a future wage.

Good point this.

I ordered at 0507, confirmed at 0550. I paid by Tesco CC, and knowing they're very stringent re: fraud I gave them a call - sure enough, there was a question mark over it. Mine had already been confirmed by Apple anyway, but it was reassuring to know that it was deffo activated at the CC end.

You need to add VAT.

Works out about the same with nil shipping costs.

I'm sick to death of hearing misinformed opinions about the UK price.

I'm not defending Apple in the slightest - even as a contented mbp/iPhone/future iPad user I believe Apple's pricing generally is on the high side - but the price differential between US/UK is easily explained.

Well...I can see the order online, but the edit links aren't clickable. However...the money had definitely authorised, and I've checked with the CC company, and there's definitely no flag on it for fraud prevention.

I phoned Apple again, and the guy said that he could definitely see the order, and not to worry. I'm just gonna give it another 24 hours, and if they haven't confirmed by the, I shall be calling back :)
