Headaches like this are why I just pay up front and order from Apple. 😆
I agree.

For those buying outright and unlocked, why go with anyone else?

The other thing (IMHO) is that in year 2 of ownership, in the event of a fault, you would have a horrific time trying to get Curry’s, PCW, CPW, Very et al to take ownership of the issue.

Apple on the other hand would almost certainly repair/replace in person.

Assuming those people didn’t take out AC+ of course.

Sometimes it pays to step away and stop refreshing incessantly... been out for a few hours and come back to a dispatch notifcation email from Apple and DPD tracking says its on the way to my local depot. Roll on tomorrow 🥳

Disagree.
I've had things from Currys before and an item developed a fault and they replaced it despite it being over 31 days which was the norm for faulty items.

On the other hand, I bought a Pixel 3 from John Lewis in April which developed a fault after two months and I had to wait 8 weeks for it to be sent for repair and then it came back saying no fault found. Fault was still there. JL would do absolutely nothing. Ended up contacting Google who straight up swapped it.

Also, Apple is great if you have a store nearby, but unless you do you can't order online for monthly payments can you? So apple direct isn't always the best deal for people.

We all have a preference for where we order from. Sure, ordering from Apple direct is always a preferred method but for those who don't have a grand plus there's other options for them. Doesn't mean people can post in a demeaning manner towards them.

To be fair to them o2 seem to be on it this year. Because I’m picking mine up in store, I’ve gotten both an email and a text saying that I can pick up tomorrow. Also, I got a phone call about half an hour later from the store asking if I want to book an appointment with someone there to help me with set up and/or data transfer. something that I obviously don’t need, but i think a really nice touch. :)

Quick one. I'm picking tomorrow from Apple store a pre-ordered iPhone Pro. Any chance that they'll have available the new Apple Watch? Seems unavailable online for a week or so...
Well I’ve just been in my local apple store. The chap seems to think they’ll have all watch models in store tomorrow apart from the ceramic (he was unsure they’d have em)

Going to try bag a titanium and leather strap so I can cancel my online order

I ordered my 11 direct from Apple, paid upfront on Friday. The only email I've today is a dispatch notification email from Apple. The tracking link goes to the Syncreon page which shows it being picked up from Hinckley at 8:53am. Looks like I might be one of the few here not getting it delivered by DPD. Estimated delivery date is still 20th though

BOOM - SMS from EE just now:

Great news! Your new iPhone 11 Pro 256GB Gold, on order number XXXXXXXXXX is now with our courier, DPD. You'll shortly receive an SMS with your delivery slot. Thanks from EE.

A q if I may...

Why do DPD seem to be so far ahead in terms of reliability, features offered (1 hour time slot) etc?

They were just ahead of the game. They’re part of a massive company with massive budgets and it basically boils down to IT investment. Doing what they do requires a massive investment in IT. They were first (or amongst the first) to do GPS tracking on drivers, dynamic route planning, in-flight changes and much more. The number and complexity of back-end systems needed to underpin that stuff is quite surprising.

Other couriers have traditionally seen IT as an overhead rather than a business enabler. They’d rather spend money on vans, lorries and sort equipment but it’s an out of date model.

Most couriers are catching up now, but they’re still a little bit behind. The company I work for does now have all the same capabilities that DPD offers (at a cheaper price, I might add) but it’ll take time for our clients sign up to new contracts and pay the extra few pence per parcel.

The other thing is cost. I believe DPD drivers are reasonably well paid while other company’s drivers aren’t. As the old saying goes - you get what you pay for. DPD are amongst the most expensive couriers but obviously some companies would rather absorb that cost and hope to offset it by offering a good service to their customers. Other companies would rather spend less on couriers and just deal with the aftermath.

Ultimately, if you have a bad experience with a courier, you really should complain to the company you placed the order with rather than to the courier themselves. Couriers will soon get their act together if their clients stop renewing their contracts.

Sooooo jealous :p
Wish we weren’t away for a few days, having to wait until Tuesday, and worse, using my wife’s old iPhone 7 until then is going to be torture 🤬

Ordered Tuesday from Carphone Warehouse and got delivery conformation for tomorrow just now.

A genuine question for you:

I’d love the ceramic model myself but I can’t justify the extra cost, so I’ve ordered the cheapest aluminium model. Even the brand new Series 5 will seem obsolete in 2-3 years and have very little resale value. Personally I see the Apple Watch as much more of a luxury item then something more essential like an iPhone.

So, my question... Are you planning to keep the Titanium watch for the long term, or are you upgrading every year to maximise resale value? How do you justify (to yourself) paying twice the price of the Aluminium model for the same features, or are you lucky enough that cost just not an issue?

DPD has updated to "We have your parcel and it's on it's way to your local depot".

I'm going out now, so I sincerely hope that St Francis brings everybody what they hope for tomorrow. Sleep tight & stay off the refresh button.

was like the calm before the storm at the bromley store just now. Nothing new on display apart from new cases. Think I’ll set on the clear one so will order that via employee portal and get me few quid off. The green( can’t remember the official name) silicon is a close 2nd

There's still something really weird about the fact a lot of us ordered phones nearly a week ago and the only way we know we're probably getting one is because the courier's IT is so great.

Would be really nice to get something from EE!

Won't you get the 'we look forward to seeing you' email tonight? Screenshot if you do!
Had the reminder mail this morning. Given I’m going to hand back my burner phone, I’m in two minds whether to wipe it at home ( then I’ll have to print the QR code for appointment) or just wipe it then and there and refund 😬 the latter feels a little cheeky... but so is putting the price up £50
