Regarding 13.1, instead of downgrading to 13.0 on current phone, I assume it will also be possible to setup iPhone 11 as new , install beta profile, upgrade to 13.1, and then restore from 13.1 backup?

I'm sure it's rare, but there is a possibility if processing falls over for whatever reason. I think it's usually pretty instant though ...

There’s just a loooooot of questions in the loan process (done this many times in the past)

This is what I usually do with new iPhones I always run betas and been fine doing so this way

Also does anyone know if I can select Barclays financing option via the Apple Store app for pre order or must this be done on a desktop?

People who used iUP last year, can you answer a few questions for me?

  • Did you get better access to slots than people wanting to start iUP for the first time? I seem to recall you being able to see more than average public.
  • Do we have a tool to check for reservation slots as they become available?
  • Did you need to hand over the box and accessories, or just the phone itself?
  • Did they get upset about scratches to the screen and body (not dents or chips, just scratches)

I’ve done iUP last two years, this will be the third time.

  • Don’t think we get better slots but I believe there’s an upgrade allocation.
  • Not an official tool, but there’s normally some wizard on here that creates a stock checker tool. It’s how I managed to get one the first year when Chapelfield Norwich finally got some in!
  • Just the phone itself.
  • My phones are fairly pristine so I’m probably not the best to answer. They do give it a good look over though. Last year they ran it past a manager to ok it. Although there wasn’t a mark on it!

With the IUP they’re obviously promoting cheaper monthly payments if you trade in your device...

Are you allowed to pay a larger amount upfront to the same effect because you sold your old phone elsewhere?

I don’t think (couldn’t be completely wrong here) they they make your payments any cheaper by trading in. It a case where they would just give you the cash value of your old device

*edit* yes I was right, from the apple faqs on iup

Can I trade in my current smartphone and buy my new iPhone with the iPhone Upgrade Programme?
Yes. If you sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Programme at an Apple Store, the trade-in credit will be applied to your debit or credit card. You can estimate the value of your smartphone here.

So, no I don’t think you can alter the loan amount.

I was on iup last year but didn’t actually do the upgrade as I sold my device separately and paid it off. I then took out a new iup for the Xs.

Access to better slots? - pretty sure there is different stock for iup upgrades - iirc as an existing member I can see if my phone is due an upgrade from the iup in my account. From here we could then seen what stock was available and where Stowe could book. I distinctly remember that this was a different allocation to what people who were not on iup saw.

Tool for stock checking - nothing specific for iup. I did have a script a few years ago but that only looked at levels of stock once the phone was released not from pre orders. Not checked out istocknow lately, but they use to offer a checker with notifications

- think it’s just the phone itself

- not sure what they think is acceptable.

Check out apples faqs on iup at the bottom of this page: https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program

The way Barclays Finance works is the monthly amount is set in stone. Contacting Barclays to make additional payments up front won't bring the monthly figure down, but it will bring your end date forward.

Anyone who wants to talk about $ > £+€ in the vision of Apple?
Aren't the iphones assembled in China? Aren't shipped from China to US and to UK - EU at the same cost? Then why this SCAM with the prices higher in EU, not to mention in UK where they are ripping the skin out of them???
[doublepost=1568266592][/doublepost]Sorry, I forgot about Australia, New Zealand and other countries. :D

Yes. That is what I will be doing. Usually happens to me every iPhone release with betas.

I suspect Apple pays for their parts and assembly labour from the Far East in USD. They are simply realising less profit from the UK and EU due to exchange rate fluctuations of the GBP and EUR.

I work for a manufacturing company and we're in a similar boat. We buy our parts from the Far East in USD, which is currently costing us more per part, and we assemble in the UK with sales mostly going to the UK. We're making less money than we did a couple of years ago when the GBP was stronger against the USD.

Does anyone know if when preordering from Apple directly if I choose to use the partnership finance solution will this lengthy process hinder my 20th receiving date?

I think it ‘could’ as you’ll only get a confirmed delivery date once your application has been approved. Would all depend on stock levels

I actually own a business here in the EU and it makes no difference in the profit for me if I sell my product in Germany or in UK.
What you told me, I already know, the Chinese are also shrinking the US dollar each day, but what that has to do with UK? Your example involves just the import of parts. But what about selling them. Do you have more expenses if you sell them in Germany, over if you sell them to Belgium? Transportation is out of discussion as there are low differences for smartphones. (UK vs USA)

Apple is shipping them from China. What are the US customs and UK customs taxes differences? They couldn't be that much.
I feel like here is a scam.
Idk for Pounds, but the euro is more stable than the US dollar in China. Been there for 7 years in a row. So that should not apply to EU. Also the difference in exchange rates could be ignored as they are minimal in the final cost. Custom Taxes, country specific taxes, yes, but I don't think that us and UK are that much different. Also, last time when I remembered it was the US in a trade war with China, not the UK...

Good spot. Never seen that before! Try apple chat and ask em tomorrow?

Can’t see that shown anywhere else

If you got an email promoting the new devices it’s the same text that’s at the bottom of that.

UK users, ask yourself this:
How come other chinese companies have the same prices in UK - US, but Apple don't?
Example oneplus. BOTH companies ship from China.

In case you haven't noticed, the Pound has been volatile in recent months.

Also, just because OnePlus does something doesn't mean Apple has to do the same?

Like Apple, we price differently per country. Possibly like Apple, it's down to a number of reasons for us:

- Market competition
- Market maturity/history of what the market will sustain
- Sales channel
- Configuration of the product
- Aftersales support of the product

In a nutshell, selling into Country A within Europe does cost us less than to Country B within Europe. However, Country B is willing to pay a higher price for the product than Country A.

Whilst not excusing Apple's strategy of creaming the UK with pricing out of line with exchange rates - even pre-Brexit, the pricing was still often cheaper if you bought in the US and paid local sales tax and brought it home - I'm saying there will be differences to them in serving the UK vs serving the US vs serving Europe.

Off the top of my head:

- Charger plug adaptors
- Compliance and regulations
- Translation costs
- Wages
- Aftersales support
- etc

Judging by the 699$ to 729£.
Exchange rate, all over EU, dollar vs pound= 0.81
699 x 0.81 = 566£ yet you pay 729£
566 to 729 is 29% more!!!
29% MORE EXPENSIVE! Now that's an exchange ratio fluctuation!

I personally think the camera lens looks better than I expected from the early leaks...

I agree with this. When I first saw the leaks I really disliked it but I did say to a colleague I will wait and see what the official product looks like.

Got to say I am digging the camera lenses which I am really surprised at.

Should I get an X or the iPhone 11 ?

I know, the X is old-ish now. But similar price and the X has a better screen. Not that fussed about camera improved.

I have a 7+ and wife has 6+ and we need new phones now

But I want 5G compatible so I need a cheap stopgap for 1-2 years, probably 2 years.

What’s the old X going to be like vs the new 11?

The A13 will be ‘faster’ than the A11 chip and you’ll have access to Gigabit LTE and new WiFi technology but other than that the X will be more than capable for the next couple of years.

Damn, that poll showing midnight green is going to be popular... time to try and put people off...

Everyone, I think the midnight green is the worst colour Apple has ever produced, you should not buy it, at all.
