Unless prices are cheaper this year I don't see me upgrading unfortunately, doesn't feel like a big enough upgrade. I will wait and see what the keynote has to offer though.

Well with my 20% discount no matter the prices mine will be cheaper than the £90 a month I pay now

Wonder what the prices will be like here?
Due to the exchange rate we may see the 256gb 11 pro max go to £1299, and that’s if Apple keep prices same as last year .....

My gut feel is that prices will remain the same this year, nothing significant to justify an increase and given sales and exchange rates I can’t see a drop

I haven't read all six pages of thread so far, but I'd thought more people would be holding off a year waiting for a 5G enabled iPhone next year?

I've started to get the itch to replace my coming up two year old X - still never never had an S-year phone - but the rumoured 2019 specs feel a bit meh so far. I do keep picking up XS Max in shops & fancy a try with a larger screen, but seems wasteful to change now for so little benefit, knowing I'll *definitely* want a 5G iPhone immediately next year.

Nothing wrong with my X either, nitpicking I've never been that impressed with the camera / photos I get from it (particularly in low light). Will watch the Apple Event stream next week & see if I'm feelin' it then ...

So I'm here again, even though I'm likely to stick with my current XS Max. I like the handset, it's fast enough for me and I invested in the battery case for it back in February this year (which almost certainly won't fit the new models).

Instead I'll probably upgrade my Apple Watch series 2 to a series 5 (assuming it gets announced).

That said though I've already looked at what I owe to O2 vs what I can get trading the handset in. Depends very much on the price point of the new iPhone.

We're an enthusiastic bunch who like to get a jump start on things in advance. I don't think the feeling expressed here will translate to the general population and will be somewhat skewed. I do think lots of people will hold off until 2020, but for many of us with a history of annual upgrades/not tied to carrier contracts it's business as usual

I’d agree in saying no 5G this year. The only selling point will be the camera and advances in photo quality. I’m really hoping the talk of a pixel-esq night sight would be great for me

I'm hoping the new iPhone has 5G. If not Apple could see a lot of people move away in the UK as the networks are rolling out 5G in major cities.

5G rollout outside the few big cities won’t be anywhere near vast by the time the 2020 phones are out.

The costs going forward will be an interesting watch too, can imagine some eye watering contract prices this time next year

If this phone doesn’t have night sight mode i will not upgrade...i’m That confident though that we will see it though.

Can’t spend so much time on the camera if they aren’t improving the low light massively.

Does anyone known if you can upgrade your iPhone in the Apple store?

I normally upgrade in Carphone Warehouse.

Thanks

Thanks Jinjin very useful thread!

I’m very much torn in a head vs hype kind of way.

As an annual updater since the 5S, I’m really questioning if i’ll Update this year, (with an undertone of “come on, who are you kidding, of course you will”). My 256 XS Max is just fine for me. That said I thought the same thing about the X last year, but was tempted by the bigger screen. I’m not sure if this year’s, likely incremental, updates will be enough. I’m a sucker for a reveal event though and will probably jump aboard the hype train..... argh!

One thing’s for sure (well so long as they announce a new one), my S3 watch will definitely be getting an update this year (I’m thinking to a Stainless Steel one too) so that’ll put a decent dent in my wallet.

A further factor on whether I update my phone could be if Apple really does ‘innovate’ and announce some new glasses, then the funds will likely get diverted to those.

Pretty sure they’ll go live for preorder the same time as Apple at 8:01 on 13th based on past launches with delivery/collect from a store options on launch day.
Worth checking from 7:30am onwards as I know the likes of EE and O2 have sometimes jumped the gun, but believe this was direct only

I hadn't expected to find a thread started by former Hobbitses on a forum about gold rings to be full of former hobbitses talking about getting new gold rings. Well, bugger me! ;)

Ha - my precious! o_O

Yep, a big part of this annual ritual is reading all the denial posts from familiar avatars *knowing* that they're going to fold eventually ... Definitely a weird skewed demographic of obsessives here.

I'm happy with every-other-year unless something special happens, and as the changes become ever more incremental then 5G is a genuine big leap forward by comparison. I thought I'd seen statements from (I think) Vodafone & a.n.other saying they were keeping the same network pricing from 4G to 5G - I think it'll be a lot more prevalent in UK by the end of 2020, though still very much in it's infancy.

Lots of credible sources point to zero chance of this happening

That's a shame.

The contract prices will be interesting for sure.

Are uk Pre orders 8am? I’ve had in my head that they’re 9am for months. I start work at 9am so this would help me out a lot if I decide to upgrade!
(Still deciding, surly apple can’t just say ‘here’s a new phone that looks pretty much the same but has a better camera and is abit faster!’) here’s hoping there will be something else...

I pre ordered my X on launch from CPW and got launch day delivery 2 years ago. This was at around 8:10 (or 9:10?) after the Apple store app decided that my Apple Pay wasn't linked to my address and rejected my order (not that I use Apple Pay every other day and have zero problems with it....cheers apple)
