I 100% will only keep it for 1 year, because to me USB-C alone is worth upgrading next year (never mind promotion, reverse charging etc...).
No guarantee of either USB-C or ProMotion next year: ProMotion in particular is meant to be technically very difficult on OLED displays vs LCD. Maybe look through your photos and see how many you took with the tele lens on your current phone: if it's a lot, you know what to do. ;) Otherwise "if you need it now, buy it now: if you can wait, wait".

Having a sudden realisation of clarity and buyers remorse... see what others think about this.

I have the X 64GB and the only reason I want to upgrade this year is for the ultra-wide lens + camera upgrade that I will use for 2 big trips coming up to Japan and Jamaica in the next year. I 100% will only keep it for 1 year, because to me USB-C alone is worth upgrading next year (never mind promotion, reverse charging etc...).

Pre-ordered 256GB (need 128 really for travel) XS Max 258GB. I am now seriously thinking instead of getting the regular 11 for just the ultawide camera, and losing my telephoto one.

Here's the staggering difference in price between them on the iPhone Upgrade Programme

iPhone 11 128 GB - £69 + 11*42.95 = £541.45 for the year
11 Pro Max 256GB - £69 + 11*71.45 = £855.5 for the year

=> The normal 11 is a staggering £313.5 cheaper for the year. For that I lose

1. Telephoto camera (which to be fair I have enjoyed on the X, but I am sure I will enjoy the ultrawide more)
2. Battery life - probably 2-3 hours less battery life compared to Pro Max, but more than my current X
3. Screen - I probably need to assess this in person, because I do love my current OLED screen.

I need to do some thinking. That is a lot of money, which I am finding harder to justify now...
Don't ask me, I'm paying more for the 11 Pro just so I can have a smaller size phone overall.

tl:dr iPhone vs Canon dedicated cameras - iPhone wins on ease of use and dynamic range ; Canon wins on image quality but worse dynamic range.

Add night mode (which looks quite nice, not daylight like Google) and ultra-wide (separate lens which I don't own) and I am 100% sold on iPhone 11. Question is... which one...
And don't forget GPS tagging on the phone, plus the lower weight. My 5DIII gets out a lot less these days just because of these two things...

I agree the 11 pro is overpriced, however I wouldn't give up a telephoto lens again. Its so nice for proper people portraits.

Only £72 a month

All good now, payment authorised by Apple when I called them they clicked the re-authorise button.

Hope this does not change the delivery date.

....totally off topic but where are you guys getting your avatars from?!! They look great....!

love how the link to add the appointment for IUP to calendar or wallet doesn't work yet... will try again later

Mine worked straight away - both added with no issues.

I assume that the reserved phones can be paid for in full if the IUP isn't wanted or doesnt pass checks?

Come on three... I am fed up refreshing the site....

Yes but that difference is the premium between the models and the capacity. Comparing apples with oranges (excuse the pun again) isn’t a fair comparison.

If you can get by on the 11 and it’s enough for you then great, if you feel you need the pro then you’ll have that premium to pay.

You gotta think about what you really need and can afford to spend

I agree this is an overall slightly unfair comparison, but only because Apple makes it so and doesn't offer 128GB Pro's, which is the sweet spot for me. And I could compare the Pro not the Pro Max to it, but the way I see it (and everyone will have different views), if you are going Pro might as well get the best.

I know if I pay more I get a better experience, of course. And fortunately, I am lucky enough that I can afford it, no problems. The question is... is it worth it? That's a deeply personal question I know and I don't know yet. Are those 3 features lone worth £300 to me?... Luckily I probably have some time to mull over, I reckon the regular 11 will be widely available :)

Jinjin, I saw you bought an XR for this week.... what do you make of it and the screen?

EE called back at ten past one, processed payment and was sorted for launch day with a green iPhone Pro. Top service.

Did you get a guarantee of launch day? I had mine ordered via online chat around same time. They say I'll prob get but next Friday but might be up to 14 days later. Clearly leaving from previous launches where they didn't have the stock to satisfy for weeks. Am not too concerned at the EE upgrade is a back up option for me. I think I'll either buy outright or go with IUP.

I can see your point. Also dont like your point as it is making me feel too extravagant!! I really want the full camera functionality but the wide angle is the exciting part really. In a way I was surprised they didnt put the telephoto on the 11 and keep the wide angle for the pro only.

Yes - I did that a couple of years ago.

Hmmmm

Got a an 11 Pro reserved for Apple Uprgade next Friday

But I can move from Three to EE for 100GB data and 2 Benefits for £71 a moth (get 20% discount)

Any comments on EE? Not been with them for years after having problems

I have had bad customer service experience with them and they’re also overpriced. Service wise seems good but this depends on the area, of course and I doubt others will be worse...

I just switched from Santander to Natwest, everything is designed for your money to never leave Natwest. It was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. Got £150 in compensation from them so far for their terrible service
Santander blocked my transaction on Glastonbury tickets and by the time they’d sent me the ‘is this you?’ text they’d sold out, so now I’m with nationwide

Was adamant on getting just the 11 256GB but seeing the Pro 256GB is only £6 p/m more on EE, why the hell not?

Shame NHS and student discounts don't work on Smart Plans
you sure, i've managed to get NHS discount on a swappable plan, the £84 per month plan 100Gb data down to £67.20 with upfront of £46

Don’t feel the screen is as vibrant as the oled and the size has reaffirmed that the 5.8” is perfect for me
