Anyone upgraded from a 4G plan to a 5G one? I’m on EE and I was assuming I can use 5G from day 1 without any upgrades or anything but I had to upgrade my 4G SIM only plan to a 5G one today (luckily it’s £4 cheaper due to me being an existing customer). It’s a shame you have to change your plan and possibly pay extra to get 5G.

I'm on o2, but apparently when I get a 5G compatible phone I just go onto their site and send off for a replacement 5G sim at no extra cost

whether its as simple as that we will see...

Ah, that answers that question then. I'm on O2 and wondered if I'd need to upgrade.

Just looked at the O2 website, on their sim only deals if you got to order one it asks if you're using an iPhone then the next question is 'Is your phone 5G ready?' so looks like they are getting ready for 5G iPhones.

I'm thrilled the 12 Pro is coming this month... two weeks to go and I could have a new phone after sooo many years. 😃 Can't wait!!

Aye its been like this for awhile, I took my sim out with them in April and it asked me then. Im pretty sure I went onto their live chat and asked when I do eventually get a 5G phone do I just contact them to get a replacement and they said yes.

can also be found here

Excellent. At the moment I've an eSim so I'm not sure how that works? I assume it just gets upgraded? I also need to figure out how to move it from current phone to new phone.

Just locked my price in with Music Magpie, 11pro 64gb, £550 + £20 with the 10extra code.

Pretty miffed as I had a look here yesterday and other sites were offering £616 but I decided to wait a day, and they have now dropped to around the £550 mark as well.

Now to wait until Tuesday to see whether its worth upgrading or not..

Question for those who have used Music Magpie. If I posted my phone with the postoffice on Wednesday, how long would it be before I get some acknowledgement from MM that they have my phone? Is the QR code they give you to scan 1st class?

And how does it work? Do they send you an email that basically says 'we have your phone, this is the price, do you accept?' etc?

I've never sent a phone off in the post so naturally im nervous about doing so even though they say its insured!

If you post it on a Wednesday Royal Mail should deliver it to MM depot on Friday (they use a 48hour service) but it might not be processed until Saturday, Sunday and then payment the day after it is processed.

If they accept the phone at full price they'll email you to say funds on the way. If they want to offer you less you have the opportunity to say approve or decline, if you decline they will post it back to you.

According to Apple's latest support documents, they've finally added the ability to migrate an eSIM from one device to another.

You previously had to get the network to issue you with a new eSIM QR code to load into another device.

Ah awesome. I'll look up the document when I get a new iPhone then.
Thanks.

Thanks, it would be Wednesday I post the phone off after watching the event Tuesday night, so ideally would want the money in my account as close to Friday (pre order day) as possible so Monday/Tuesday would be ideal.

Although from what I remember I don't think Apple take the payment as soon as you order the phone through them anyway, if anyone can correct me if i'm wrong?

What are we thinking on UK pricing this year?

The iPhone 11 Pro is $999 or £1049. However the Series 6 starts at $399 vs £379. Apple has been kind to us this year.

Leaked prices are:
‌iPhone 12‌ Mini $699
‌iPhone 12‌ $799
‌iPhone 12‌ Pro $999
‌iPhone 12‌ Pro Max $1099

So.. perhaps..
‌iPhone 12‌ Mini £729
‌iPhone 12‌ £849
‌iPhone 12‌ Pro £1049
‌iPhone 12‌ Pro Max £1149

In recent years phones have shipped from the UK so payment has been taken a few days before delivery, if they ship from China payment will be taken much sooner.

The last years price was a bit of an anomaly, as often the UK price has been a 1:1 conversion. At least there’s a chance they’ll make a minor adjustment.

I believe EE do not support e-SIM transfer from old to new iPhone, one still has to either request a new QR code over the post (not even email) or visit an EE store.
I’d be curious to know if that’s no longer the case, i.e. has anyone on EE managed to do e-SIM transfer?

Really interesting potential leaks about next weeks Apple event, full details here:

With the cameras, the ability to shoot in Dolby Vision video sounds cool.
Deep Fusion and night scene modes have become better, Smart HDR also has upgrade, namely Smart HDR 3. That will be good to see in practice / real world situations.

Most notably, there are actual camera differences between the Pro models:

Key point: The biggest difference between 12 Pro Max and 12 Pro is that 12 Pro Max also has a larger sensor (47% larger sensor with 1.7μm pixels). Expansive is added before the description of the 12 Pro Max ultra-wide angle.

So, if that is true, looks like the 12 Pro Max will be receiving a better camera than the 12 Pro this year. Given they are both Pro's, I reckon both should have equal cameras.

What does concern me is no talk of a 120hz screen refresh rate on the Pro's.

Talk of an Apple Qi charger for iPhones will be interesting to see. Naming it Magsafe Duo Charger or similar.

November release dates look confirmed for the 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max:

The pre-sale/pre-order date of the iPhone 12 Mini (5.4 inches) is scheduled for November 6 and it will be released on November 13

The pre-sale/pre-order date of the iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7 inches) is scheduled for November 13 and will be released on November 20

For the lucky ones buying the 12 and 12 Pro versions, you can get busy with pre-orders next Friday! Inevitably, I suspect iPhone demand will outstrip supply this year.
