Purely for me I just think it’s 2020 and I don’t want to mess about with a tiny plastic thing and sticking a pin 📌 in a phone no more no less
hopefully next year it’s a thing of the past that space in the phone surely could be made to do more
I’d rather ‘mess about’ with an actual card.
The amount of times you take a device in for replacement, or have to use an older one for some reason. That can’t be done easily with an esim, yet with a physical one you can just pop it out and into another phone with no downtime.

Ha she is on a payment plan with me!!!!
She isn’t having a new phone and a Michael Kors bag within 5 weeks of each other.
(Off topic) just myself bought the girlfriend a MK bag only to find out John Lewis discounted it by 20% a few days later. Submitted a price match request and had the difference refunded in under an hour, can’t fault John Lewis!

Have seen a lot of people talking about eSim. Why ?

Are there any advantages?

Anyone got one with Vodafone?
Originally the reason was so that when I’m travelling I can purchase a local SIM card and use that + my personal SIM. Now adays less of an issue! Also now in 2020 there are lots of apps where you can install eSIMs for all over the world.

In reality until the UK networks support eSIM transfer from phone to phone it’s a bit of extra hassle than a physical SIM

With all the £££ being spent on Phones and Accessories I hope you lot did not forget to spent that all important £3 on one of the most important thing (in my opinion) the dust plug for lightening port :D

I thought about one of these for my regular case when I’m not using my unicorn beetle case.

So am absolutely loving the camera - can see the improvements in low light.

Just off thread a little but I went to charge my iPhone 12 pro max last night with my Anker power wave stand only for it not to charge as the blue circle just kept flashing so it appears that it’s not compatible with my new iPhone. Apart from Apple’s own MagSafe charger, what does everybody else use to charge their new phones?. Ideally I’d like a stand to keep by my bed as opposed to having it lay flat whilst charging?.

I’m not sure which version of the Anker Power Wave you’re using but I have the Anker Power Wave 7.5 I got from Amazon nine months ago and my Pro Max works just fine with that. I also have the Belkin 3 in 1 Power Boost and it works with that too.

I’ve not tried an eSIM yet, it is not good to hear there is extra hassle when moving it to a new phone. Do you have to contact the carrier to transfer the eSIM or can it be done via an app or carrier website?

I’ll chime in on e-sim with Vodafone. Went e-sim on my 11 Pro Max when the service went live. Thought the grass was greener antes the latest tech etc. It worked straight away. Fast forward to my 12 Pro. Swapped e-sim and worked straight away. I decided I wanted the 12 PM so went back to my 11PM. Swapped e-sim and it failed. That was on Tuesday. I am still waiting for it to be fixed and I now have the 12 PM as well. Been on web chat every day for at least 3 hours a day. They have no idea how to fix but keep assuring me it will get fixed. It’s supposed to take between an 1 hour and 24 hours. Here’s the kicker. My friend works for Voda. He’s told me the issue. The order fails and needs to be manually cancelled and new order put through. Only back office can do this. But you need to wait 24 hrs until it fails before they take action. Then tell you it takes a further 24-48hrs. In the meantime you are left hanging. I’ve had to buy a PAYGO sim in the meantime. And back office don’t work at weekends. Am going back to a physical SIM but can’t do that until they’ve concluded that all options have failed. I’ve raised a CEO complaint as a result.
Be very wary. Personally for me it’s not worth it. If I had a physical SIM I can pop one in.

Sorry for the essay but felt I had to share...

You have to request a new eSIM then fill out a form to swap to the new SIM which is usually instant (was for me on EE). Only downside was that they posted the eSIM which is just a QR code, begs the question why can’t I just download it.

I tested the 4G and the 5G indoors and this is what I get. The first one is 5G and the second one is 4G. I still need to test outside but probably won’t be able to until Monday when I go to work.

On Voda you request via the App and get the QR code immediately but it also dectivates the physical SIM at the same time. So if it fails your screwed.

EE is still behind, I had to request a replacement esim with EE via their website haha. Whilst the esim was being posted, this did not disconnect my current physical sim.

The disconnection of the physical sim only happens once you proceed and activate the esim.

I moved from a physical sim to an esim, which will leave my sim slot free for my future travels.

I also find it appealing they charge 50p to get it instantly. Would have thought EE would swap and do £1.50 for instant online QR code and 50p for slow post lol

I had a look in MyEE > Account Settings > Replace your sim/esim > new esim handset, but then don’t want to proceed as I just want to see if I have ‘digital’ option.
meant to be appalling but I think you know that.
They shouldn't be charging for either - but i got roasted on the EE community for saying that.

Ahh, good to know they’re working on it! It just makes a lot more sense for something like a QR code to be done online instead of post. I understand there could be security/fraud issue but hopefully EE will sort something out to make it as secure as possible :)
It doesn't even need to be a QR code if distributed by the App, the problem with a QR code in the app is then you need to screenshot it, send it to someone or print it and then scan it.

I added a TMobile US tourist SIM last year directly from the app by clicking a link - took 1 second to add. I could choose QR code if I wanted to use on another phone but far easier with the link.

It will probably eventually get replaced with another eSIM! If eSIM is the future more networks need to get onboard, only Apple will be able to force this worldwide but could take a while, but its inevitable that the two SIMS will be eSIM.
