Judging by all the reports online and YouTube videos the only charger that will allow the MagSafe to charge at a full 15 watts is the officialI just picked one up yesterday from a local Waitrose as I ordered from John Lewis, the cable is fixed to the unit and USBC connection the other end, the cable is around 93cm long, you DO require a 20w or above USBC charger too plug it into, I bought the one shown in the image below on a pre black Friday deal for £27.59 from Amazon that is more than sufficient, I am sure the deal will come up again over black friday proper, with the phone bare it magnetises quite well to the unit, not sure if I would dangle it over a stone floor and shake it but I would say if you had it on the dashboard of your car for example it would hold it. The cable coming from the puck is a bit of a pain but you just rotate the puck so the cable comes away where it doesn't t annoy you when holding it, it DOES charge faster and when you attach it a circle appears on the screen confirming connection, but DOES NOT work through my silicon case, I just sent my Apple case back because it was awful and not worth the money IMHO, I bought the Nodus MagSafe compatible case that is also magnetic, see link for info https://noduscollection.com/collections/phone-cases/products/shell-case-3
There will be bare support units of all different types appearing soon I guess like the apple watch where you put your own puck in, is it worth it, in a one word NO as you still have to buy the charger that Apple said they weren't including to save the environment, wait a minute another van just had to deliver that in further packaging!!!!, BUT I had no choice, its more a max £25 unit to me but at least I have one original one, I won't be rushing out to buy another!

Hope this helps 👍
But then that begs the question why did they change the iPads to USB C. Surely by your logic the same would apply to them. 🤔I've got a feeling they've not switched from lightning to USB-C on iPhones at least because of the uproar it'd cause from those with accessories, I remember the change from the 30 pin plug and all the howling at the moon that caused, instead I think in the next couple of years they're going to ditch the lightning cable altogether and go full wireless and then take on the kick back that'll involve.
if they do that all they'll have to do is release a bluetooth dongle for wired headphones at around 50 bucks, god knows apple loves them some dongles😂
