I just picked one up yesterday from a local Waitrose as I ordered from John Lewis, the cable is fixed to the unit and USBC connection the other end, the cable is around 93cm long, you DO require a 20w or above USBC charger too plug it into, I bought the one shown in the image below on a pre black Friday deal for £27.59 from Amazon that is more than sufficient, I am sure the deal will come up again over black friday proper, with the phone bare it magnetises quite well to the unit, not sure if I would dangle it over a stone floor and shake it but I would say if you had it on the dashboard of your car for example it would hold it. The cable coming from the puck is a bit of a pain but you just rotate the puck so the cable comes away where it doesn't t annoy you when holding it, it DOES charge faster and when you attach it a circle appears on the screen confirming connection, but DOES NOT work through my silicon case, I just sent my Apple case back because it was awful and not worth the money IMHO, I bought the Nodus MagSafe compatible case that is also magnetic, see link for info https://noduscollection.com/collections/phone-cases/products/shell-case-3

There will be bare support units of all different types appearing soon I guess like the apple watch where you put your own puck in, is it worth it, in a one word NO as you still have to buy the charger that Apple said they weren't including to save the environment, wait a minute another van just had to deliver that in further packaging!!!!, BUT I had no choice, its more a max £25 unit to me but at least I have one original one, I won't be rushing out to buy another!

Hope this helps 👍
Judging by all the reports online and YouTube videos the only charger that will allow the MagSafe to charge at a full 15 watts is the official
I've got a feeling they've not switched from lightning to USB-C on iPhones at least because of the uproar it'd cause from those with accessories, I remember the change from the 30 pin plug and all the howling at the moon that caused, instead I think in the next couple of years they're going to ditch the lightning cable altogether and go full wireless and then take on the kick back that'll involve.

if they do that all they'll have to do is release a bluetooth dongle for wired headphones at around 50 bucks, god knows apple loves them some dongles😂
But then that begs the question why did they change the iPads to USB C. Surely by your logic the same would apply to them. 🤔

How are people getting on with their Torras clear cases from a few pages back? Mine seems to fit a treat though I'm just a little paranoid because of the shiny sides that its somehow going to chip / scratch it over time even though I won't be taking it out of the case on a regular basis, just by everyday use.
I have the Diamond Clear case for my pro max and love it.

The iPad's battery size doesn't make it effective for wireless charging otherwise that'd be an option with them by now.

The fact they changed the iPad air & Pro's to USB-C already but didn't do this with the latest iPhones also makes me think they're going to skip right over that step to wireless only.

And your right about the 20w Apple power brick, thanks to some Apple shenanigans that they haven't mentioned the only charger that'll do the full 15w is their own 20w charger, plug it into a MacBook Pro USB-C power brick and you'll still just get around 10w charging.

Having FINALLY got my phone despite a 4 day delay thanks to DPD misroutes. I’ve finally spent the day with my new 12PM PB and I’m in love with it. They are just so quick to deal with everything. A14 chip is outstanding
I feel sorry for you having had the disappointment and delay but you have it now, so this is where you can put all the unluckiness behind you and have some fun with it, the camera is great!

I restored using iCloud as it showed about 8hrs phone to phone and I didn't wanted to try out the camera so opted for iCloud, it still took a good day though to get all the Apps pics and emails in, worse still was then trying to back it up on icloud that took a day of it stopping and starting on wifi! Will wait and see what happens but mine is set same as yours for picture optimise.
Back on the storage front would you believe it the Max is now reporting 70GB used, it has release 50GB.
The conundrum do i still get the 256GB i have on order from Apple.

Same here went this morning!!!
Just sent my old 11 Pro Max off to them today, hoping it's accepted the phone was in pristine condition but the fear is real.

Traded my Son's iPhone X in when I got him the 12 Pro and that wen't through fine, took a while but it went through so that gives me some confidence in the trade in process.

Can anyone advise please:

I am wanting to return my phone and have to by this Saturday as thats when the 14 days are up.

Would apple accept the return to store if I got a family member to take it ? i would ofcourse give them the receipt email for them to scan ?
Thanks

They may need the card you paid for it with, in which case you’ll have to be present. However, they don’t actually ask for ID so as long as they have receipt and the card with them, you should be fine.

What’re people’s experiences with returning to Apple? I’m thinking I should’ve stuck with a 256 rather than go down to 128. Are Apple likely to accept this rationale for a return?

If you want to pay the difference for the extra storage they'll accept the return no problem, there's people out there that ordered different versions of the phones just to see which one they like then returned the rest and Apple for some reason accepts that!!

I have a Gold Xs Max 512GB that I bought in March as a backup for lockdown, absolutely immaculate and it would still have the remaining warranty, maybe not what you wanted but its available boxed, includes Apple original black leather case, checked battery and performance 100%, I have the receipt ;)
Thanks Bud.

You got a beautiful device there bud but my bro in law is after non max version. I did try to convince him but no joy lol.

Probably won’t even ask the reason. Especially if returning online. You jus request a return through you order.

There will be rationale why they accept it.
One will be they become refurbs of which they probably don’t want to use newly boxed devices these ones will end up in white cardboard boxes for swap outs.

That reason is because it’s law in a lot of countries, as it should be. You couldn’t even view the devices in store this year, or hold them and they embargoed reviews online until after pre-order...

True this year is an exception that you couldn't try before you buy in the shops, but this happens every year, don't get me wrong consumer law should always take priority but when I see someone say "I just ordered the 12 Pro with every intention to return it when the Max comes out" it makes me sad.

It doesn't make me feel bad for Apple as a 2 trillion dollar company it's nothing to them, it makes me feel sad for the consumers pre-ordering that could have had the new phones sooner if it wasn't for people that placed an order just for the hell of it.
