We are back again, well done Jinjin as this thread takes some effort to update each year 👍

I've been out in the Android wilderness during the 2019/2020 season having skipped the iPhone 11 series after being disappointed by Apple's lack of real progression following the X/XS.

I have owned a Sony Xperia 1 then One Plus 7T Pro McLaren before settling on the Pixel 4 XL. Loved the Pixel for outstanding photography, especially night photos, the smooth 90hz refresh rate plus rapid ease of just using pure stock Android. Dislike the battery life, video quality is just alright at best plus Google apps are still not as slick as Apple's overall.

This year I intend to go for an iPhone 12 Pro Max, new Watch and new iPad Pro.

The new industrial iPhone design, circa iPhone 4, coupled with that Midnight Blue colour does look stunning! I make a lot of short movies so looking forward to vastly improved video quality.

Hopefully 120hz will be incorporated into the Pro versions, sounds like it will. I am also interested in 5G & to see what Apple will do with the LiDAR scanner.

Now if Apple managed to remove the notch, that would make for a killer hardware look this year, but of course we have to wait until at least 2021!

Going to be good to be coming back home to an iPhone again!

So do you reserve one to pick up in store and then go on the IUP?

Have a look at the first post. I captured some screenshots of how it was last year in anticipation we’d all foget how it worked!

On preorder say you just have to go via the IUP route and then pick a store and time to collect.

Totally agree. I think it would be daft of them not to announce the new phones now - they know keen fans expect them in September and would feel almost a bit 'let down' if they didn't announce them. Whatever date they then say they'll be available is actually then secondary, at least the addicts like us have had a fix via the announcement!

Will be interesting on how they do this..

If the series 6 watch comes out with watchOS 7 pre-installed.. doesn’t that usually need pairing with the latest iOS (14) to set up?

So that would mean they are releasing iOS 14 in time for the watch release and maybe with a new iPhone... or iOS 14 will drop well before the new phones do.

The latter last happened for the X I think

I wonder if they’re will be the facility to join the iUP online this year ? Can only assume they’d want to divert as much “traffic” online as possible.

I would like to think they would but I don’t think it will happen.

My theory is that is down to risk and Barclays not wanting to give out phones without seeing ID in the flesh. Too much scope for fraud, ID theft and phones to disappear.

Yes, you’re almost certainly right. There’s an online facility in the USA, I think ? So presumably it’s Barclays calling the shots.

Maybe not, my partner applied for 0% finance (not iUP) on the apple.com/uk store yesterday for a SE 2020 which is done through Barclays.

She filled it all in online then had to do a selfie and ID photo from her phone, they text her a link to a Barclays website where you login with the info from your order, then she got an email saying approved and the phone was delivered today.

I am also curious to see what Apple does regarding the iPhone Upgrade Programme and iPhone Payments plans this year, whether they need to be applied for in person or not.

From memory, Barclays is rather risk averse and I recall people with excellent credit ratings being declined. I think many of us agreed it was at least partially down to having more than one Barclays finance plan in place before taking out another.

After having been on a variety of the plans over the years, I think I've concluded I would rather just buy on an interest free credit card. I can pay a bigger deposit vs the stock ÂŁ69 and therefore bring the subsequent payments down in value. The Apple plans dictate the same payment each month, where overpayment only brings the end date forward.

I've only done the iUP once l, for the iPhone 8. I got accepted with Barclays despite what I thought was a poor credit history.

I remember selling the phone privately and then paying off the rest of the plan and getting a refund on the remainder of the Apple Care. Worked ok for me and I'm tempted to do it again.

Hello all again, again ...

My green 11 Pro Max has been most excellent this year, but I can't resist 5G and going back to (my favourite) iPhone 4 sharp edges, which hopefully will mimic the iPad Pro.

If the Max is going to be even bigger this year then that's too heavy for me & I'll likely pre-order a 12 Pro in the smaller 6.1" size & ideally the blue colour if it happens. Apple genuine leather case & a glass screen protector then we're done.

Bring it on!

Genuine question, why the blue one if you gonna cover it anyway?

The 12 Pro can’t come soon enough. Sold my XS Max and currently using a S8+ got to say Droid sux

Reading the first post on IUP not done it since the XS where I paid in full then went in store to swap it to IUP

Wasn’t this possible with the 11’s

Agree, I had a 11pro max 64gb. Sold it to Mazuma at the beginning of the month and been using a SE since then. I had to sell the 11 because 64gb was no where near enough storage. I am now waiting to see what the 12 is like, but I must say the SE is a bit small for me. If I don’t see anything that make the 12 special, or it is not released until much later I may get another 11 256gb, there a quite a few deals going at the moment.

I believe so, but not sure why it would be necessary - I got my 11 on release day on iUP. I pre-ordered via the iUP option, and booked an in-store appointment for release day (about 5pm for me personally so it was after work). All went very smoothly.

For a long time I always had Space Gray / Black & really disliked the white fronts on the silver & rose gold iPhones. Now there's no visible frame last year was my first 'coloured' iPhone & I'm surprised by how much I really like the green.

It's not always in the a leather Apple case, I have a clear Spigen case too which is brilliant (esp. for the price) & a camo Rhinoshield case too (great, but a bit slippery / too hard). I'd not pay extra for 'a colour', but it's a nice change & particularly if it's a one-off just for that model cycle.

....as much as I would love to use iPhones naked, they are just too dam slippery!!

My 2 year old XS still looks stunning when I remove it from its leather case - I know is a shame to cover up such beauty but I just do not trust myself to not drop it and smash its glass front and rear!

I'm in exactly the same boat. I absolutely LOVE the feel of using the phones with no case, and every so often force myself to try it, but I always end up putting a case back on. My main issue is it slipping out of pockets - hip pockets are fine, but I wear suit trousers at work and it seems like every time I get into my car it slips out and down the gaps at the side of the seat etc. So annoying. I even tried once putting a textured skin on the back to see if that helped, but it didn't!

I have the green too and it is such a nice phone. I’m on EE so can trade in for free got the 12. I use totallee case (frosted and clear) and they’ve been amazing cases, mind you they should be for the price

I don’t think I’ve posted since last years thread but it’s good to be back. My 11 pro Max has been naked for a year and still in new condition, 86% battery health now so looking forward to getting the 12 pro max.

The full works plan on EE seems like the best, it has Apple Music, TV and arcade all included.

As mentioned it was a relative breeze just ordering for IUP on release day last year. Picked up 9am on release day and was in and out quickly.

that annoying f*****g gap between the seat and centre console! Big enough for the phone to side in but not big enough for a human hand to fit in.
