I'm going in totally blind this year... don't think I've paid any more attention since WWDC... might blow my mind or more likely I'll not notice!

did read that 'shared Apple Music playlists' aren't ready for day 1 though

CarPlay SharePlay is ok. A little glitchy but convenient.
I updated my wife’s yesterday and she said she not noticed any difference apart from the attachment picker in messages.

Thought it was only for ultra 2 but evidently not!!

That being exclusive to ultra 2 might have made me upgrade 😂

I’m going 512GB.
I have no idea why though.
🤣 for me it’s the fear that the ‘entry level’ option will not be enough and the top of the line will be a waste 🤣

also when I decided to go with 512, I did not know you can tether the phone to an external drive

anyone else not touching ios17 until the new phone arrives?
I might install it for a couple of reasons
  • it will keep me distracted for a few days and possibly stop obsessing about the new phone
  • if I restore from iCloud, might be good for the backup to be from an IOS 17 phone (not sure if it really matters but reinforces the first reason above 🤣🤣)

No I was on beta 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and now RC

Never again will I join and install beta, some of them were awful on the AW with battery

Can’t believe I have to wait to October 2nd. Had this issue years ago next year I will stick to tried and tested currys get phone every year on launch day no issues. 40 mins is website goes down for and the launch delay slipped before I even pressed Apple Pay.

Me too. 256GB iPhone 15 Pro. Black titanium. I also bought a black Mujjo full leather case - very fast delivery sent from the UK. It arrived Thursday and it is really nice. There's a leather smell I never got from the Apple leather cases.

Considering one of these too. My poor wallet :(

Have you tried carphone warehouse? They are part of Curry’s now and still have phones available for Friday.

GLUBEE USB-C Adapter i OS Lighting Cable (Female, 8-Pin) to USB Type C (Male) Juice Up Adapter for Galaxy S20 Note 20 Pixel 4 XL OnePlus 8T and More (Pack of 4) https://amzn.eu/d/hgZaQBr

For those needing an adapter for car play (or anything really) just get yourself one of these if you don’t want to buy a full new cable, you can probably find cheaper aswell if you look around, pack of 4 here.

Just stick it on the end of the cable you already have in your car
Doesn't support data transfer so won't work for CarPlay.

You do raise an interesting point. Apple now likes to insist on the incremental updates, doing just enough each year to make people want to uupgrade. Each year does feel more like a 'S' annual cycle than a full one compared to the old days where they had the S then a brand new iPhone. Likewise, with the Ultra Watch, I only see an incremental update between 1 vs 2. Disappointing.

Us crazies on MRF (& now Discord!) will always be on the bandwagon for the latest iPhone so no buyers remorse here except for colour choices!!

The average punter on the street will not be the same mindset as us unless it is their year to upgrade, get a sweet network deal or they can afford to upgrade etc. In which case, they will likely pass their old iPhone to a family member. This also suits Apple's current business model; keeping more people invested in iPhones.

What is absolutely true is that the iPhone still remains very appealing to all age groups from the young to business people to oldies. The Apple ecosystem plays a major part in this. Android just doesn't have the software ability to sync everything so smoothly with all products like Apple. Google and Samsung are playing catch up here. Pixel line up is definitely improving their ecosystem here.

I do think we have reached peak Apple though with Tim Cook. To push new tech further and faster, Apple will need someone new at the helm.
I'd love to see a proper true Ultra iPhone or foldable iPhone or Apple pushing the boundaries of bleeding tech with all the resources and money they've got. As an Apple shareholder, I'd also like to see this happen although I can't vision it yet, even with the new Vision Pro headset!

I've been a year or so with the Z Fold 4 and really enjoyed the foldable experience. OneUI much less so. Mine has been very durable. Yes, they are not quite ready for prime time yet due to current manufacturing costs & not offering the best cameras or internal screens etc. but within a year or two they will be. At that time, I expect Apple to step into the market and then foldables will be for the masses.

So this year for me, I did consider the 14 Pro Max over the 15 Pro Max to save money. Battery life & charging speeds look like they are the same. My decision to go for the 15 Pro Max ultimately came down to the fact I've been out of Apple (iPhone) for a year so wanted to upgrade to their best again.

I also found the weight difference is 42 grams between my Z Fold 4 vs 15 Pro Max which is massive. I will really notice that difference in usage & in the pocket / travelling. That compares to 23 grams difference with the Z Fold 4 vs 14 Pro Max.

Sunday evening rant over!
You are making a few very good points indeed.

I had the Z Fold 4 and now the Z Fold 5 (cost me about £1000 for the 512GB model after all the Samsung discounts and gifts); I find myself reaching for the Fold far more often than I think of the iPhone.
Yes, the Apple ecosystem is surely helping to keep me in line (as a MacBook & iPad Pro owner) but the single thing actually compelling me to stay within the walled garden is my Apple Watch Ultra due to its battery life and cellular smarts.

It is quite sad when a company has to release new devices every year because that is their business model and the stock market expects it but doesn't have much new to add. Previously we had the "S" year upgrades and it feels like we have now had 2 in a row...

I might end up with a 15PM and an Ultra 2 after all, even though I cancelled my EE upgrade and AWU 2 order earlier today. However, I only intend to reorder if my recently replaced 14PM and Ultra with 100% battery health sell on Ebay for what I consider an appropriate price.

They’re still advertising phones for Friday.
I think what I might do is if (if) I get the 512GB on Friday I'll go with that but if not I'll stick with my Apple order and cancel the CWH order. Hate it if they're advertising Friday delivery and don't deliver.
