Yeah I may go back and ask them to convert it to an esim - I suspect he was just lazy or didn’t know how to do an esim! I didn’t care enough to insist as I just wanted my 15 PM up and running.

As an aside, he commented that mine was the first 15PM he’d seen in the flesh and their store was only allocated one 15 Pro pre-order(!) as stock is so constrained so I feel extremely fortunate to have picked one up at launch!
Can you not do it manually from within the phones mobile service settings?

Convert a physical SIM to an eSIM on the same iPhone

You can convert a physical SIM to an eSIM on the same iPhone, if your network provider supports it. Follow these steps:
  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mobile Data.
  2. Tap Convert to eSIM.
If you can't see Convert to eSIM, your network provider doesn't support this option. Contact your network provider to move your phone number from your physical SIM to an eSIM using eSIM Carrier Activation or by scanning a QR code.
  3. Tap Convert Mobile Data Plan.

  4. Tap Convert to eSIM.
  5. Wait for your eSIM to activate. Your previous SIM card will be deactivated when the mobile data plan on your iPhone has been activated.
  6. Remove the physical SIM from your iPhone. Then, restart your iPhone.

My iPhone 15 Pro delivered this morning at 10am by DPD.
Not had a chance to post as I’ve had a busy Saturday for a change.
Currently using my phone without a case feels so nice in the hand and much lighter than my 14 Pro.
I’m glad I went with Natural Titanium having compared the other colours at my local EE store.

Had a bit of faff setting it up this morning though could not connect to Apple servers when I tried the transfer from previous phone option even iCloud wouldn’t work.

After numerous attempts I ended up using my back that I saved to my MacBook Air and that fixed it.

However it seems my failed attempts flagged up with Apple Support who sent me an email with a link so they could run some diagnostics, which I agreed too.

So I got there eventually.

P.S no issues transferring my eSIM for 14 to my 15, worked flawlessly.

I deliberately side stepped release day as we’re away until Monday. Unfortunately delivery dates had slipped significantly by the time I got to it and so have a date from Apple of 9th - 16th October!
I decided to give mobile phones direct a go (AO). They had a delivery estimate of 1 to 2 weeks after release so I ordered.
(KEPT MY APPLE ORDER DURING THIS TIME!)
Had notification that DPD were going to deliver my phone today from AO! I’ve pushed it to Tuesday, when we’re back home, but I’m a bit stunned to be able to have it so soon!

Give me a break… I had a 256GB Pro Max in the colour I wanted in my basket for collection but I made a stupid mistake and wanted to see if I could get a closer store and then it was gone!

Add to that I have had a tyre puncture AND a cracked windscreen today…

o2 don't support that. EE is the only UK network with full Apple Esim convenience feature support. i.e. quick transfer and convert physical to esim

PSA: If you are in the UK, and are hoping to transfer your eSim from one phone, to another, note, that this cannot be done with O2 or EE. You physically have to visit a store, or had a new eSim sent out to you.
As the two leading providers in the UK, this is appalling. No wonder Apple haven't go eSim only here. Shame, as all the major telcos in Australia and New Zealand do this! Shall we blame Brexit?

Mine transferred fine with EE from my 14 PM to my 15 PM?

Usually we should stick with the first hunch!
They say usually bad luck brings bad luck…I hope the puncture and windscreen were not a result of a more serious accident!

That's lady luck not on your side today!

The Pro Max's are flying out fast! Hardly any appearing in the stock inventory yet.

Couple of standard Pro's available at Watford & London White City but that's it for now.

Check back early mornings, you may get lucky.

For those of you who got the 15 Pro, are you happy with the battery life/feel like returning it for the 15 Pro Max?

Looks like InventoryWatch is down but so is the Apple option on their website to check stock in stores...

Impressive turnaround time from AO given the initial delivery estimate. Your doing the right thing keeping your Apple order just in case! Good luck!

Yeah sadly I don’t have that option in Settings. I’ve always had to go into the store to transfer an esim. Looks like EE is ahead of the game on that one.

How is the best way to snag an iPhone 15 pro max? How is the best way to track availability in my local Apple stores? Is there a set time of day they become available?

Has anyone who had their phone shipped today not had their track code activated by DPD? I have my shipment notification at 6am but when I go to track on DPD. I get ’The details entered are incorrect’

I wouldn't worry about it, mine was the same last night and early this morning, eventually it all updated.

Yeah I remember EE was the first UK network to support Esim. I guess it shows that EE really is the UK biggest network lol 😂 It is sad cos I remember the iPhone 3G/3Gs days where o2 dominated the iPhone market. But then, EE wasn't a thing back then and was still T-Mobile and Orange haha

I had zero issue with this (EE) using Quick Transfer, although the rep at the Apple Store told me i was the first she’d seen all day where it worked 🙈 seems to be hit or miss?

regarding O2. Wasn't the iPhone an O2 exclusive when it first launched in the UK? at least the original and the 3G.
So it's odd that they haven't worked with Apple to make the transition to eSim as smooth as it is with EE

Ah - the days of having to use iTunes to activate iPhone.

Seems like yesterday not some 15 odd years ago 🫣

If anyone is choosing to use musicMagpie's 'smartdrop kiosk' - I'd heavily recommend being prepared for a complete farce. If you're from West Yorkshire - avoid the Morley ASDA store.

Took my 14 Pro to trade in about 1PM today, all checked fine and got to the 'accept' final screen. As soon as I clicked the big green button, it threw an 'out of service, please call this number if your phone is stuck' screen. 40 minute wait to get through, but when I did they ran some checks and confirmed the device was in the machine and would manually pay me. The machine promises same day payment, but I now have a 2 working day hold. Annoying, £560 in limbo.

I've returned to ASDA tonight assuming the above would be a one off to trade in my mum's 12 Mini, they're offering £185. First has an issue reading the IMEI so I clean the screen and wahey, we're off, all the checks are working and completed. Click accept again and it throws an error "Error accepting device" to which the machine starts to whirr away at me and again, refuse to spit my phone out. As I'd spoken on the phone earlier I knew ASDA could open the machine, so along comes the store manager who was fine, but confirmed he now can't give me my phone back as they'll be investigated for a missing phone by MM. So not only am I now without a 14 Pro and 12 Mini, I'm without the £560 + £185 they were valued at too.

I got email confirmation of the manual payment on my 14 Pro so I've followed up with my 2nd problem of the day. From the sounds of it, it's not too rare of an issue at that store. Clearly the machine is broken - so definitely avoid the Morley ASDA if you are looking at a 'SMARTdrop kiosk,' oh and the Dewsbury store also doesn't work, so don't try that one either.

In that case you could either ask Amazon to replace. They will likely just ask you to return and give a refund if they don’t have stock.

Or you could take it to Apple and ask them to replace the back plate under warranty.
If you go the Apple route, by getting AppleCare+ they will give you a replacement while they are repairing it. However since this is an issue from the factory I don’t know how they would handle it. Book an appointment with the Genius Bar.
Ask nicely and Amazon will refund you a good 20% to keep it as is and if you’re putting a case on it then win win. They’ll offer 10% but insist on 20-25%.
