other day my upgrade fee was £0, earlier today it was £100... now its £300... what's happening?!

I’m ready! Roll on 20th!!

Went for the white 512Gb Pro Max - done the pre-pre-order bit direct with Apple just wait for the lottery on the 20th now and not being able to access the website and everyone else posting that they did it in 20 seconds.

I'm tempted to select that I'll collect from the store, but I've never done it before so just hope it'd be a 20th collection

I’ve saved both the Natural Titanium and Desert Titanium Pro Max 512GB. I’m still contemplating which one to get. I’m not really keen on any of this year’s colours but I think I’ll probably go for the Desert Titanium as it’s the new colour.

I like the name of Desert Titanium but really, it just looks gold to me and I don't think I'll like it in person.

I've opted for black but am very tempted by Natural Titanium or White too. Also tempted to bump up the size from 256 to 512, but not sure it's worth the cost as I'm only using 140gb now.

Really disappointing. Can’t see many meaningful benefits of 16pm over 15pm. I need to upgrade to 512gb but it’s gonna feel painful parting with £1400 for same screen, and paltry camera upgrade - not even made zoom better with AI, missed opportunity
Agreed, good excuse for most people not to upgrade from the 15 Pro/Max and I’m on the upgrade program and feel this way too. Wish the screen was brighter and more camera upgrades this year feels very minor.

There is really nothing wrong with an incremental upgrade. Also I think people are understating how good it is that the two Pro models now have total parity — it always feels unfair when the Pro and Pro Max have feature differences, forcing people to get a phone size they don't really want.

I’m also going for 512 but doubt I’ll need it. I was at about 150 so similar to you. Just peace of mind I guess?

There's incremental and there's not very noticeable though. Coming from the 14 or older is massive. Coming from the 15 is less so
Why is that a bad thing? These are not just mature devices now, they're also expensive. I mean, Mac territory expensive. Why would we want to spend that sort of money on something that we feel is outdated 12 months later? It doesn't make sense to me.

Incremental upgrades are pretty much perfect in my opinion. Nobody feels forced to upgrade, but the improvements are significant when they do after 2+ years.

And on the other hand, if Apple did make the last model somewhat obsolete each year, we'd all be criticising them for that too.

Phones have matured and that's good. Let the improvements be more in software and services now, the hardware is far beyond what most of us could have imagined when we got our first smartphones. And the fact that Apple continues to give OS updates to older phones demonstrates that, aside from big leaps like M chips and AI, a) the hardware is stellar and b) the main improvements can be delivered via an update.

We can see them more like our ovens, fridges, TVs, iPads, home computers, cars etc, and upgrade them either when they genuinely need replacing or after a more significant period of time than 1-2 years.

Yeah I'm in two minds — if I get that space, will I fill it with junk and never clear it?

30gb of my storage is in a filmmaker app that I can clear, and WhatsApp is almost 18gb. That's close to one third of my storage usage, while Photos are under 2gb thanks to the storage optimisation.

Yeah always had the option in the past to collect from the store if you get in quick enough before the dates start slipping.

How does it work — does it show you the available collection date before you choose it? I’d hate to select collection, then go to the next page that says it’s a later date, by which point delivery slots would also have been taken

Have been pre-approved for a 16 Pro 256GB in Black Titanium, will be on the golf course at 1pm so fingers crosses

Well I seem to have booked a weekend away on the 20th so won't be home for a delivery. Hoping to order and have it shipped to my local Agent Of News and it'll still be there when I get back on Sunday! Poor planning on my part!

A question about 24 month at 0% loan with Apple.

Say I bought a 16 plus 128 GB (£899) - therefore £37.45/mo for 24 months.

12 months later I trade in and (say) get £380 towards the next iPhone costing £889 on a new 24 month at 0% deal.

I gather from Apple's website that the new loan will be £899 - £380 = £519 (split over 24 months, £21,62/mo)

However, what about the remaining 12 months at £37.45/mo, do I continue paying this monthly or will the monthly cost be added to the new 24 month loan?

So essentially the cash you get for the trade in (£380 in the scenario you provided) is used towards paying the original loan back. If you only get £380 back and you still have a balance of say £450 for the remaining 12 months of the 1st contract then you pay the £70 to fulfil the first loan and you start a new 24 month contract. If I remember correctly you are only able to do this from a minimum of 12 months into the contract (ie I don’t see an option to sell back to Apple at 6 months) but it does work if you want to upgrade on a yearly cycle. As seen from trade in prices this year you tend to get less than half the value back from Apple at the 12 month mark….hence the £70 payment in this example.

Thanks @CooeeB, the highlighted bold text clears things up for me 👍

Almost 2 years with my 14 plus the battery health is at 92%. My 16PM cases arrive today along with the screen protectors.

All I need now is the actual phone lol
