I think I'm going to go with my gut feeling and preorder the 8+. I'm just not wowed by the X at all and don't want to be a beta user until the next Xs model comes out next year (just a guess!). I buy all my phones outright and can't justify spending £1000 on a phone, nothing about the X is a deal breaker for me I actually think it's pretty shabby for a 10th anniversary phone tbh, I'd rather go traveling with that kind of money or buy a new lens or upgrade my DSLR.

I think for a change I'll get the gold model. I've always had black, slate or space grey since the 3GS.

After having a think about it, I think I'm gonna sell my 7 Plus 128gb with envirofone and use the money to help pay the monthly payments on an 8plus on the iUP, but for me, Leeds is all showing as unavailable, so looks like Meadowhall it is, unless Leeds changes in the next few days.

Paying into the iUP doesn’t reduce monthly payments - it just reduces the term length.

How much data does the £23/month get you? I think EE's £83/month deal is quite good tbh knowing how much better the network is, but I still prefer not having my network being involved with my ownership of the device.

£21 a month gets you 18GB with EE at the moment. Add on the £1k iPhone X (/24 months) = £41/month. So for £62/month (plan + monthly phone cost) you can get 18GB on EE.

For an extra £20, you can get 100GB, and upgrade to the new iPhone in a year, plus TopCashBack are offering £92!!!!! on all new iPhone 8/X.

18GB isn't enough for me, or it will be borderline. 100GB would mean i'd never have to worry about going over my allowance.

I wonder if EE throttle data in the US/Canada like Three does. I love Vodafone's roaming... completely unthrottled (but £5/day in US).

If you're on a Max plan which I believe the X plans are then on there is no throttling.

Been following this thread for the last 8 pages and all I read about is something to do with an iPhone Upgrade Program, and a Payment Plan. I have looked online but struggle to see what benefits they have, especially if one could afford to buy a phone or two completely outright?

I assume the Payment Plan is just you buy an iPhone and then pay it off over 20 months with 0% interest, so say you bought 8 Plus 64GB at £799. You'd pay £39.95 over 20 months (Plus additional for apple care if its required), but can't see how Apple would allow this, there must be some sort of catch?

I am not even sure about the iUP....

Summary is in the first post, check there.

I just had the same.

I'm on holiday and drunk but rang AMEX and they said no issues their end...
Haha! It happens every year for me and the bank says there's no block. In reality it is usually Apple's fault, however reauthorising online sometimes doesn't work. For me it did this year, luckily. But if it doesn't, getting Apple to redo it over the phone or by chat will make it work.

You usually have 24 hours to get it sorted without it impacting anything.

I have a question about IUP...
Seeing as Barclays can be quite picky regarding finance approvals, is it the case that one could potentially successfully enter the IUP this time around then get a rejected application this time next year (making the whole concept pointless)?

I think I’ll see what supply is like on Oct 27th & decide then. If supply is really bad and it’s looking likely that it’ll be weeks before I can get one, then I’ll just sit it out & pay off my 7 on IUP. I’ll own the phone outright by the time Sept 2018 comes around and might get £100 or so for it, which adds to the savings.

Yep, you're taking out a new loan.

When you hand in your iPhone, Apple credit your existing loan agreement to completion.

That’s over £500 extra after 24 months! Surfice it to say I’ve gone with the sim only although EE will offer 20gb for the same price if you ask and 30gb if you go through retentions. I went for the 20gb as that’s double what I’ve ever used, including sharing the data with my wife and using CarPlay streaming daily.

I do some surveys in my spare time and I just got one that talks about the iPhone 8/X.

It asked if I would be more likely to buy the iPhone X if I could get £100 off after paying a £50 deposit to reserve the phone at Carphone Warehouse.

Looks like they're considering some kind of loss-leading deal for the iPhone X?

There is always potential i suppose but as long as all monthly payments made and no other credit or affordability issues that have arisen in the intervening period then I would think it highly unlikely since the same lender. I would think that Apple would have taken steps when setting up some a programme with Barclays that this should be avoided unless exceptional reasons.

I'm seriously considering coming back to the iPhone having left for the Samsung galaxy S3 years ago and staying on android ever since. I always go for the flagship but strangely I'm drawn to the 8 plus and not too fussed about the X. Not sure what I think about the gestures and the face unlock.

I would probably buy on the upgrade program. Does anyone know if it's possible to change the pick up location if pre-ordered online? I will be in London next week so could collect there if any available but if I don't get chance the I'd want to collect from a different store nearer to where I live

20 x 24 = £480, minus TCB's £90 = £390 more. £390 over 2 years for 80GB more data, and not having to go through the hassle of selling the X next year to buy the new one. It seems like a decent enough deal to me, though I understand some people wouldn't want to take a £390 hit.

Don't forget though that every year the contract price goes up and also you need to go onto a higher priced contract after 12 months to upgrade if memory serves me right.

I was basing my sums on EE 24 x £83 plus £10 initial = £2002. That’s £499 more plus rise in March of RPI. Obviously cash back reduces the cost, but then so does moving to sim only right now - my monthly saving is £34 so I’d have saved £68 before the X even arrives.

I never ever get to sell old iStuff. Wife or son always want them!

Of course, for you it makes sense as you need the data. My family has never used over 10 gb combined in two years of iPhone/iPad ownership.

Ether way, enjoy the X :)

The contract must be the same price or more than your current one. If anyone thinks the iPhone prices are going to go down next year, they're being naive.

£1k phones and £70-£80 contracts are going to be the new standard.

If I was handing down my phones I'd definitely avoid the 12 month upgrade plans.

The nearest person I've got to hand down a phone to is a 12 year old sibling... they'd lose it after a few days.

Barclays are definitely picky as they apply their own criteria so your credit score is meaningless. I would have thought if you meet whatever their criteria is the first time though it is likely you'd meet it in a years time
