I've claimed on RBS/Natwest insurance for a few iPhones over the last 10 years. Its always been a very quick and reliable service - replacement phones have never been locked by any definition of the word and have been indistinguishable to those I've received as replacements by Apple.

Some more press prior to launch? It takes a day for the newspapers to print, and iOS11 is coming out Wednesday. Then iPhone 8 Friday Apple determined when their NDA press embargo stopped I guess.

Edit - anyone know when we get not just the order number and can start tracking a delivery? When it passes from asynchronous to the carrier (UK Mail etc)?

iOS 11 is coming out today (Tuesday).

I am with Three Business sim only and get:

1125 cross network anytime minutes (Including 0800, 0808 & 0500 numbers)
1000 Landline
2000 Three to Three minutes
1150 text messages
All You Eat Data. This also includes using your phone as a personal hotspot which is 450GB pm

All for £20.75 inc VAT

Which I think is a bargain. You also get USA, Australia and NZ included in their inclusive roaming if that's important to you.

I am struggling to decide whether to jump to a 8+ or just replace my 6s with a 8. I can't see the X being available easily until 2018.

How quickly (from accident happening to receiving replacement) did the whole process take?

What about having one repaired under RBS/Natwest-have you ever done that?

Do 3 Business throttle speeds and only offer 3G, in the same way 3 Consumer do?

I have similar with NatWest. http://personal.natwest.com/persona...current-accounts/reward-platinum-account.html

The insurance is pretty good as the repairs are all done with genuine manufacturers parts.

I’m still weighing up the Apple care this time around. Never had it on a phone before. Good that you get a refund for the percentage of the remaining coverage if you do have it and sell the phone in a years time.

I can vouch for this, except mine is through Royal Bank of Scotland but it's the same insurers. I've had no problems both times I've raised a claim. The first was for theft, the second was for a damaged screen, both times I've received replacements the next working day.

From my inital reading of the reviews i get two impressions from them if you have a 7plus the 8 or 8plus isn't much of an upgrade. If you do want to upgrade then wait for the x. Thats my impression others will disagree and 8/8plus still like decent upgrades just not enough for me thats why i'm waiting for the x.

Didn’t they say the same about the 6s over the 6, and the 7 over the 6s?

It's easy for them to say wait for the X when these reviewers are forgetting unlike them people are not going to be given an X and most people wanting an X will not see one in their hands until the first quarter of 2018.

I think your correct but with the iphone x in the picture i think an upgrade to an 8/8plus is even more incremental but i do hope they sell well as that means more x models for the rest of us lol

That is the only thing putting me off an upgrade if i don't get it until sometime january or later i would probably cancel and wait until the next version.

Sorry, I should have been clearer .

I meant do they throttle/force 3G when roaming?

No. They do not.

You have to be mindful that sometimes they will have a fair use cap but when I spoke to my account manager he said my fair use was unlimited data through my phone and unlimited tethering. When roaming my fair use mobile data was unlimited and for tethering fair use was 12GB.

I have a £0.01 credit cap on my line just to make sure I never unknowingly go way over my bill and I have never been cut off or stopped from doing anything except when trying to dial charged numbers.

Whilst outside of the UK, calls to any UK number are free, but if you were in LA and needed to call the store in LA from your UK mobile that call would be charged at £1.40 a minute. You can receive calls from LA numbers for free though which is good. I tend to buy Skype credit so I can call numbers abroad as it's always cheaper than using mobile.

Do you get 4G while roaming?

Which I think means they lock to the network of the first SIM you use, even if the original handset was unlocked. Had a it of back and forth with the insurance, Vodafone and Apple for my 5 when it had water damaged. VF did unlock it eventually.

Can we clear this idea now? I know @Azzin also made lots of posts perpetuating this recently, but it’s an outdated story (I was going to quote and reply but those posts were about 20 pages ago).

CPW used to lock sim free to first sim inserted, they haven’t been doing this for somewhere between 1 and 2 years. If you buy simfree from CPW now it is an unlocked handset.

If you buy on contract they are locked (and usually supplied as locking to first sim) but this is only if you buy on contract.

You only need to check their website to verify this...

Also, no other supplier operates the locks to first sim policy anymore, if you buy from somewhere like Giffgaff, John Lewis or Currys, as examples, they are standard unlocked handsets.

Hopefully this will cast some light on the “lock to first sim” inaccuracy recently posted here.

good to get some clarity, my last dealing with CPW though my insurance was with the iPhone 5 so great they've moved on from that policy since then.

confirmed @ http://selfhelp.carphonewarehouse.com/SelfHelp/request.do?view()=c{97904010-2842-11df-7b6c-f20203001e3d}

which states: All Apple iPhones are now unlocked when purchasing through Carphone Warehouse.

I'm afraid I may just have to forget about my iPhone 8 Plus upgrade after reading the review from The Verge.

Especially after reading this section:

After spending a week with the 8, I can’t think of a single compelling reason to upgrade from an iPhone 7. The 7 is still extremely fast, offers virtually the same design in a lighter package with a bigger battery, and will get almost every feature of the 8 with iOS 11. If you really want Qi wireless charging, you can get a slim $15 case that supports it. And if you’re dying for Portrait Lighting, there are tons of photo apps in the App Store that offer similar effects

However, the X does indeed offer a great upgrade so I may just have to join the queue with those of you waiting for October....!!

would still work for the 8 too ;)

If I didn't own them already, I would be buying it just for the sake of a quick charge.. my 7+ lasts me to the evening when it gets plugged in over night.. hoping the battery on the X doesn't differ.

pretty much all the reviews sum up my feelings, its not just a significant enough upgrade over the 7. If there was no X, clearly I'd be all over it :D

I'm not sold.

Here's a "review" from someone posted only 2 months ago...

Also...

Do you sell unlocked phones?
Our phones are unlocked!

Most of the phones we sell aren't locked to a network, including almost all of our SIM free phones. That means you can put any UK SIM card into your phone and enjoy the benefits of whichever UK network you prefer.

Exceptions
To find out about a particular model or using your phone abroad, ask in store or give us a call on 0870 087 0870.

View our SIM free phones here.

check out my post above, it clearly states on their site all iPhones are now sold unlocked..
There's a big difference between selling an "unlocked" phone and one that will lock to 1st SIM (which is what CPW's iPhones do).

Just do a bit of Googling if you don't believe me.
