Well looks like the iPhone 8 is not the phone for me after all. From the early reviews it seems the camera can't quite match the Google Pixel in low light, so it'll stand no chance of beating the Pixel 2. I guess that settles the question of which phone I'm getting next.

Pixel 2?

Aye, the iPhone 8 and Pixel 2 (rumoured specifications) were so close that I decided that the camera would be the deciding factor; whichever takes better low light photos. So far it looks like Google will take that crown for 2nd year in a row. So that'll be the one I go for.

iPhone 8 looks to be a great device though, I was so close to preordering one.

I wonder if the 8+ defeats the Pixel as that uses a different camera setup.

Anyone on three looking for upgrade/downgrade, I called to leave and was offered 8gb, unlimited calls and texts, £10 a month. Data is plenty for me, only use it for commuting really.
Was coming from a deal of 4gb for £9 so happy to pay the extra £1 for double the data
I'm on three and was offered 30gb data, unlimited mins+texts (essential plan) for £15 a month, as data is what I use the most of being around 15gb a month on average

Where are peoples orders up to?

My Apple shop pick up for Friday is still showing as order in progress, would have thought it would have shipped by now unless they do store ones differently.

How quickly (from accident happening to receiving replacement) did the whole process take?

What about having one repaired under RBS/Natwest-have you ever done that?

Do 3 Business throttle speeds and only offer 3G, in the same way 3 Consumer do?

48 hours I think, if not less, depends what time of day you log the claim as to when they can dispatch it.

I’ve never had one repaired - I didn’t even realise that was an option. The scheme works like Appple repairs - they just swap your phone for a refurbished one and presumably your one goes off to be repaired and refurbished.

Was this a retention deal? Seems like a good deal, but the only downside is that it's an Essential plan so you can't use your 30GB for personal hotspot. Might give them a call tomorrow and see what they can offer.

My collect in store order says being processed (Cardiff store, gold 8 plus, 64gb) possibly store specific for different order stages?

On their website they have 30GB, all can be used to personal hotspot for £18 a month. Netflix and a few other things don't count towards data quota. Also can use 'feel at home' in loads of places around the world which can help hugely if you travel.
They should do better still if you phone them :)

My first and last post in this thread explained my disappointment in Apple and the pricing of the new iPhone. I thought it was £100 over priced for the 64gb plus. Fast forward a week and I have ended up buying myself the new iPhone

I managed to keep myself from paying £799 for the 8 plus 64gb. I managed to get it through CPW for £698. I will be keeping my £18 3 SIM which gives me 600 mins unlimited texts and all you can eat data with 30gb tethering.

How come you changed your mind?

To be honest the main reason was that I found I could get £300 for my iPhone 6S. It made it more affordable. If I keep this phone for 2 years my effective monthly cost is £34.67. If I wasn’t as greedy I could get a cheaper SIM which would make it cheaper.

I’m also a big fan of Touch ID and feel like this could be the last flagship that has it intergrated. Does anybody know if the new iPhone 8+ battery the same size as the 6s+?

Have you seen the leaked pricing for the pixel 2?

pixel 2 64gb $649
pixel 2 128gb $749
pixel 2 xl 64gb $849
pixel 2 xl 128gb $949

So if they do an apple and just do a straight replacement it will be priced here at.

pixel 2 64gb £649
pixel 2 128gb £749
pixel 2 xl 64gb £849
pixel 2 xl 128gb £949

I'm going to go for the 128GB Pixel 2 for £749. £50 more than 64GB iPhone 8, seems alright to me.

Again, I'm not bashing iPhone 8. It looks really good. If Google messes up availability like last year and I can't preorder one then I'll get iPhone 8 instead.

First small disaster for my not-yet-in-my-hand phone. Thank you to the person who posted a day or so ago (and a bazillion posts) about iPhone7+ leather case in Currys for £20 on clearance. Too bad the currys I reserved it at couldn't read and sold mine...
Order (pickup Fri) still at processing but Credit card showing it as a pending transaction..
