Could you elaborate on that? So any time on the same day is allowed? Do I have to call them up in advance ?
When you reserve you get to choose a time slot. Choose one that is convenient to you and then try to make it on time. I think you can be a couple of hours late before they will release your reservation for sale to someone else. It's advisable to call if you are running late but they will be extremely busy on the day.

I mean with preorder not reservation. Surely there isn’t an option to choose time apart from the date they give us?

It says you can trade in your current phone.

I've got £455 locked in from a recycler for my 7+, but could I use the funds from that as a deposit, or would I have to take the physical phone in (& no doubt get less than £455)?

I think people bought it out right when pre-orders went live and then took it into a store and changed it to iup. In theory refunding and buying it again on iup. I could be mistaken

Once the launch date arrived then it was possible to look for stock in different stores and reserve and then on collection sign up to iup.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear! I'm not interested in the iPhone upgrade program. I want to buy the phone outright as I do every year.

Basically I don't know my plans for next Friday, so don't want to rely on having to wait in for a delivery (assuming of course next Friday is release day, which it may not be), so ideally want to get the delivery to my local Apple Store for collection.

However, when I pre-order, will the number available only be the number that my local store is getting on launch day? Or will it be all of the iPhones available in the UK and then they just ship my particular device to store?

Obviously my store may only get a couple of hundred (if that), so I'll be limiting my chances of getting one. Whereas I'm sure there will be a couple of million allocated to the whole of the UK.

Hope that makes more sense?

Makes sense indeed. I can’t say I’ve ever seen an option for a preorder to be delivered to store for launch day, only home delivery.

Tbh I’ve never looked for that option and busy rushing to get the order in

I can see them holding back the big ticket features for the flagship device. Similar to how the 6+ had OIS, 7+ had the dual cameras..

But the 8 and 8+ are flagships released today. Apple won’t want people to assume the 8 is inferior to the X.

Then what is left between the devices to justify the expected higher pricetag? The bezel tree design alone won’t be enough for people to stump up £1k or so

AMOLED screen and different design/shape. I don’t really think a method to unlock your phone is a big selling point tbh, it’s nice but not a deal breaker as long as it’s secure.

For the “average” (and by that I mean none of the people on here but 95% of Apple purchasers) consumer they won’t be able to tell the difference or even know what OLED is, I just feel that Apple has history of keeping its latest tech for the top end device. People will want something more tangible to justify the price and have kudos of the the X.

To me the 8 and 8+ really feel like the ‘s’ tock release.

Next year I’m sure it will be filtering down to a wider range of devices.

Not long to see what Apple has in mind though!

Ah, for some reason, I thought you could order straight to store for collection. Pretty sure I remember in the past reading about people lining up and then getting annoyed when others just walked in and picked one up with their reservation without having to queue.

Others might know more, I couldn’t say for sure but hey you’ll know more in 11 hours or so

Do you have to pay online still if you reserve for in store collection?

I missed pre-orders last year for the iPhone 7. However I managed to reserve one for in store collection a couple of weeks later. I didn't have to pay until I collected it. Not sure if it'll be the same for pre-orders (if it's even an option).

Once the launch day arrives and the ability to check stock at local stores is available, then yes you can reserve and pay in store.

I just don’t know what option for reserving and paying in store there will be for pre orders.
