I thought you could only apply for iUP in store therefore had to buy the phone in store too?

Yes. Reserve the phone for in-store pickup. When you arrive they will ask you how you want to pay. Tell them Apple Upgrade. If you are already with Apple Upgrade, tell them Apple Upgrade Upgrade. Needs to be in-store as they need to see Photo ID etc.

The only problem I had was when I came to get a refund for a phone I bought with Apple Pay with a phone (device) I had then sold. The refund took about 6 weeks, it shouldn't make a difference but just seemed to complicate matters.

Best to pay by credit card with outright purchase as you're covered by CC T&C
Cheers Bud.

If its anything like last year we'll be stuck for the new model. We couldn't preorder, we had to "Reserve" on launch day at a store, which meant that specific store needed to have stock. Obviously stock of many models was limited, and it'll be more so this year.

Hope someone gets that website up and running that checks stock automatically.

I’ll check with the guy who wrote it. Rather bizarrely I found out last year that I know him.

EDIT: He wrote the PushBullet script, not the website.

So is the only way of buying it from Apple, by buying the phone outright?

I was hoping to trade in my current iPhone 7 via Apple's UK Trade in website however, it doesn't appear to work for iPhone 7 (after entering all the phone's correct details and selecting the no damage for each option)?

Given there currently nothing official you can trade up a 7 for, I’d say it will change at some point after tomorrow. If it’s in time for pre Odets is anyone’s guess

@l3uddz? Keen to see if the API on the Apple site will still be accessible in the same way.

Can’t remember if they locked it down last year after a few weeks

...and how does the Apple Upgrade Program work exactly?!

You reserve for in-store pickup. Turn up with ID, they ask how you want to pay, you say Apple upgrade program. They add AppleCare + to the cost of the handset and divide it by 21 payments. You pay one payment there and then and get finance via Barclays for the remaining 20 payments.

Anyone fancying the conductive charging accessories? I’m sure they’ll cost a bomb and given that they’ll want 3rd parties to be MFi certified, there won’t be much else around to choose from

Think I’ll pass on wireless charging. I have the 29w charger for my iPad Pro so hoping to take full advantage with the new iPhone

The iPad Pro charger higher capacity than stand iPad ones?

Assumed it was the same and it’s still in the box for me!

I believe standard iPad charger is 12w. The 29w usb-c charger (bought separately) with usb-c to lighting cable is compatible with 2017 iPads and makes a real difference in charging times. Pretty sure I heard a rumour the new iPhone might support the same faster charging. Not cheap but worth it imho

Does anybody know how to get PayPal on the Apple Store app , maybe it’s not supported?
Thanks

You can't, it's only available on the website and not in the app at the moment.

That's how I bought my iPhone 7 last year from the Apple website. I set up a £30 a month via PayPal Credit and got the phone on release day. I'm actually still paying for it not (I pay approx £30 a month to Apple and approx £30 a million to EE for the contract sim I have).

If I did a simillar thing this year for the iPhone 8, assuming I could again get a £30 month PayPal Credit thing going on, it would mean a total of approx £90 a month (£30 for the 7, £30 for the 8 and £30 for EE) so not sure that would be worth it!!

The limit for Apple Pay in the U.K. is £30 so I would just pay using PayPal or your card to buy the new iPhone

Hey - I remember you on this thread last year (well, the iPhone 7 thread anyway!!)!!!

Was planning to use Apple Pay (credit card) as should be fastest method to get through - but slightly concerned about the issues people had last year when it came to dispatch.....

Am I right to assume though that everyone was able to get the payment sorted without negatively impacting delivery date? Assume just a case of contacting bank/Apple if an issue but shouldn't impact place in queue??
