Anyone familiar with what they want when you return your existing iUp handset? Is it a boxed with accessories job or can I just walk into the shop with only the handset and be fine? Just I wouldn’t mind keeping the lightning cable if I can for my BeatsX!

It’ll be the first time that any of us in the UK do the upgrade but believe it’s handset only in a ‘good’ condition. So basically no big cracks etc in phone. Apple lays out in their T&Cs what this means so will dig out if I can but remember it being pretty generous.

Hi. I asked this earlier, but don't think anyone responded......

Currently on SIM only EE and am likely to continue on that and buy X from Apple. However, as a Plan B (stock dependent) I may consider going on a contract with EE instead.

If I did that, how can I leverage my current position (existing customer, out of contract) to order, whilst getting order in as quickly as possible. if I have to call up then that will obviously take more time than upgrading online.... but if do online wont get any discount.

If I did upgrade online, anyone know if it is then possible to negotiate after the fact to change cost??

Think you’re best off ranging EE today and ask that’s the best way of knowing. Think it’s unlikely but you never know

Cheers for that. Reckon I’ll bring everything I have with me and if they don’t ask for it, great. Just to be on the safe side! My phone’s mint so no problems there.

A bunch of people did to the 8 upgrade.

I went in and spoke to my Apple Store friends earlier this week to ask about it. Basically, they'll enter your details and it'll come up with 2 options. 1) The price left on your iUP loan. 2) The current trade-up price, which may well be higher - then you have pick what you want to do.

If you go for 1, it's an automated system that pays off your loan and copies your details into the new application.
If you go for 2, it'll be up to you to pay off the loan for the original iUP, and the new application requires them to enter all your info again.

good to hear apple actually give you the option to check k trade in price first!

if people do consider option 2 then I'd strongly advise you do your homework as Apple's trade in prices are not the most competitive on the market.. you could get a better price else where.

I’ve been trying to get hold of ultra violet sport strap and at last today it’s showing in again (with 3-4 weeks wait!)
I tried to use Apple Pay which worked fine last week and it got declined. Phoned credit card company and they insist there’s no block or warning on my card and say the problem must be Apple.
I had to change the way I paid for it to work even though it used the same credit card as Apple Pay. If this happens on Friday it’ll add about 5mins to my order time which will be horrible!
Just thought I’d let people know in case it’s not just me!

I started my first upgrade programme with the 8 last month, but considering moving to the X now... what process could I take to settle my current programme and start a new one with the X?

Or can I just trade in or something?

check out the FAQs on Apple's site at:https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program

for this scenario it says:

Can I upgrade even if I haven’t made my 11 monthly payments yet?
Yes, you can by making an early upgrade payment equivalent to the loan balance up to 11 monthly payments, when you upgrade at an Apple Store.

and

Do I need to contact Barclays to close my loan before visiting the store?
No, we’ll close the loan for you when you upgrade through the iPhone Upgrade Programme. If you haven’t made 11 monthly payments, we can take the early upgrade payment in store when you pick up your new iPhone.

the other option is you contact Barclays directly and settle the balance directly.

there's nothing stopping you (apart from Barclays credit check) signing up to 2 or more IUP deals running concurrently.

When buying the 8 online (not using Apple Pay) my credit card payment was declined several times - Apple said it was by my bank while my bank (Lloyd’s) said it was Apple’s fault! After many unsuccessful attempts online and many phone calls, I tried to pay by phone, however this was also declined. I then went into the Apple Store and paid using the same credit card without any problem whatsoever. Unfortunately I never tracked down the reason for this problem so it may well happen again.

If you read the article it doesn’t seem that they have changed any production process, just using more lenient standards to speed up testing.
That’s what it seemed like anyway.

Since I’m only using something like 34GB with my Music and Photos in the cloud, I’m going for 64GB Space Gray on Friday to save me £150. iCloud Photo Library kinda negates the need for a larger phone for me, and I have a 512GB iPad.

Going to use the Apple Store app on my iPad and Apple Pay. I really hope to get it on the 3rd if I order in the first few seconds but with this launch, anything is possible and have to hope for the best, but expect the worst I guess. :(

I don’t think it will be as bad as what all these analysts say too be honest.

I am doing the exact same thing got everything set with Apple Pay and the Apple store app and both the black and white under favourites.

quick question - if I get my iPhone through a carrier, do I need to go back to them if I have issues with the phone? In the past, buying from Apple meant I could go back to them in case of an issue and get a swap.

Your warranty is still with Apple.

However if you get a defective unit direct from Apple you can swap it at an Apple Store - assuming that they have stock - because it’s basically just treated as a standard return/exchange.

If you buy through a carrier you can’t do this and must be dealt with through Apple support instead. However if you do get a defective unit they work on a 1-3 day timescale regardless of supply constraints so it shouldn’t be too bad.

this is my only concern - in the past I have been able to exchange defective units without any delay.

Another bit of anecdotal info for you guys a friend of mine is regional/area manager for a certain mobile network they said the iphone 8 went better than they expected and sold out quite quickly which suprised them as they thought everyone would wait for the X. From their point of view there is no buzz surrounding the X launch they have no idea of quantities that apple will be able to supply on launch day. But from what they said they don't expect great demand for the X but thats what they thought about the 8 and that sold out quite quickly. no real news just thought i'd pass on my conversation that i had with them.

This is absolutely not true. I have never bought an iPhone direct from Apple, always through a carrier. I’ve swapped multiple phones in the Apple store because they haven’t worked.

This is not policy. Did you receive a sealed-box retail unit? If not, you were dealt with through Apple support, not a retail exchange, which is exactly what I said.
