I understand but you’re still paying the same amount for the phone right? And recouping a similar if not less amount when trading it in vs selling privately?
Yes but "you're still paying the same amount" is a good thing because it is basically an interest-free loan. Compare it to carrier pricing and it's an excellent deal. And £60 a month is a lot more manageable than £1000 up front.

I guess I see where you’re coming from, it just seems like encouraging people to spend more than they can really afford but I’m probably looking at it from the wrong perspective. I’ve always hated using credit as a way to buy things I couldn’t otherwise buy but that’s a personal thing.

From a theoretical perspective I would lean towards your viewpoint, however that's based on the reality that the vast majority of loans come at a long-term cost and thus are only taken out by people are can't afford to pay up-front. But when the loan is interest-free, it's usually a rational economic choice to take the loan rather than pay up-front.

I’m on IUP and I realized, they mixed the interest rate in their AppleCare, which you have to buy in order to get IUP, nothing is free in this world, especially not a line of credit. They share the profit from AppleCare with Barclays who underwrites their loans applications.
Yes but it is still costing you exactly the same over 20 months as it would paying up front and so it is free to you. Of course there are deals going on behind the scenes to make it work but to you it is free credit.

Oh and I must say, this is my guess, I don’t know how they work internally, just linking dots from the fact that you have to buy AppleCare which is about 150 quid extra. If it’s really interest free, why wouldn’t they just give you the phone alone?

You can forgo the Apple care and option to upgrade after 12 months and sign up with iPhone Payments.

You should be able to upgrade after 12 months, by selling the iPhone (on Envirophone or some other website) and paying off the remaining installments.

Let’s see on Friday but hope there’s some sort of advantage by being on the IUP when it comes to reserving for an upgrade. I’ve heard there will be. Wether that’s dedicated stock in store or priority when new stock is delivered to stores.

I have a question - if I pre order on Friday as soon as it is available and click deliver to store - will this make my iPhone arrive later or would it be the same time as it would take to get to my house? And would clicking deliver to store possibly get my order pushed further down the queue due to many people ordering at the same time as me?

If the delivery date at point of ordering is the 3rd, it will be that day

EE sim only tariffs have changed overnight (as expected).

What was slightly unexpected was that they weren’t replaced with similar deals - they’re all back to full price.

Hopefully this will change soon!

Probably done so to capitalise on people singing new deals for the X.

I’m hanging on till Black Friday

I’d have thought that if they were in any way competitive.

£20 gets you 20GB on Vodafone but only 3GB on EE today. 20GB EE is £36.99!

I’m guessing new deals will launch soon and this is just the temporary high price between 2 differing deals.

I’d have already signed up but my Black Friday 2015 contract isn’t quite done yet :)

Im glad they didn't release a better deal than my 25gb deal that I took out (+20% discount on top), that would have peed me off! But shame for those who want one. I think Black Friday will have some good deals but I couldn't wait that long

Anyone familiar with what they want when you return your existing iUp handset? Is it a boxed with accessories job or can I just walk into the shop with only the handset and be fine? Just I wouldn’t mind keeping the lightning cable if I can for my BeatsX!

So basically they do this to make you go on contract with the x. as buying IUP and sim only now is not a cheaper option than going on one of their plans. A perfect business plan. Which means now people like me will be going on contract with EE now from 08.01am. I will be getting the apple watch series 3 with them too seeing as there was a mess up with my apple order.

You’re not forced to buy a new 12-24 month contract when your old one runs out. Just buy on IUP and stay on whatever tariff you’re currently on until a better offer comes along. Or if you’re on an expensive contract because it came with a phone, you could switch to a 30 day sim only temporarily. Or even PAYG. Lots of options

Problem is I'm currently with three and will move to EE. I want to do the annual upgrade which is a big thing with EE given you that option plus they do the apple watch which i would want as well. If the tarrifs that were posted from a EE forum member that £87.99 a month with £40 upfront seems most likely the route i go.

Still worth doing the maths. Assuming a 64GB X over 2 years is about £46 per month. So an £88 plan is basically charging you £42 for the SIM. Even if you want EE for the watch, it may be worth checking prices and staying with three until a better sim only offer comes out for EE.

even with the EE sim deal that they had before it expired today the price per month with IUP and sim only is still more expensive than the on contract tarrifs with EE. Plus you will get alot more extra data. Can't just wait around hoping a better sim deal comes through when it might not.

64GB model isn't an option for me. Need 256GB

Hi. I asked this earlier, but don't think anyone responded......

Currently on SIM only EE and am likely to continue on that and buy X from Apple. However, as a Plan B (stock dependent) I may consider going on a contract with EE instead.

If I did that, how can I leverage my current position (existing customer, out of contract) to order, whilst getting order in as quickly as possible. if I have to call up then that will obviously take more time than upgrading online.... but if do online wont get any discount.

If I did upgrade online, anyone know if it is then possible to negotiate after the fact to change cost??
